I began to tell them that I spoke to someone on the phone and they were the ones who gave me the appointment for today! Anybody knows that you can't walk into the Social Security office and you have to make an appointment! I don't know why they think they're above the law. They're just rude. And they need to get over it. I would give this place a zero star, but that's not a choice. It wasn't until I got to the back and spoke to someone and he made me feel better. The staff was very professional and my 9:10 and 9:20 appointments were merged because TWIC cards and Pre-Check are now merged together on the TWIC card. One less step. THE PLAY BY PLAY: I arrived early, sat in a waiting room for a few minutes and was all done after an 8 minute processing time. Be sure to remember that they do not accept cash. NOTE: It literally has taken me longer to write this than to take care of my business at IdentoGo. No doubt a great job by the friendly, courteous staff. PARKING: For me parking was a breeze, as I got lucky and found a parking spot on the 100 block (there are only 4 parking spots -- across from the Green Onion Mexican Restaurant) and they are free for 2 hours from 8 A.M. to 6 P.M. Thought it might be a cute event to attend as I have seen many Christmas movies with a tree lighting ceremony. Although, it was raining most of the day, many locals came out to the holiday fun which meant looking for street parking. We got a free spot in a lot for local businesses about a block away. When we arrived, the big tree was already shining bright with the Christmas lights. And that's okay. The local bands and school choirs were joyously singing carols under the guidance of their director. They did an amazing job. There were some vendors under tents (Rizzo's Pizza is the only one I remember) and many locals walking around and many watching the band and choir. Overall a pleasant event. I may possibly check it out again next year if not a rainy day and allow more time to find parking.

I have lived in Lomita "The Friendly City" for over 20 years. My house in Lomita was my first and…read moreonly house purchase in the South Bay. In my first 15 years here, there was no street sweeping on my particular street. When I learned that they would start street sweeping, I was a bit confused as it wasn't something I thought our particular street needed. I then learned that this was Lomita's way to help combat the Trailer Park residents from leaving their cars parked on our street for weeks at a time. Now unfortunately, there is literally no parking on both street sweeping days each week, due to the trailer park residents frantically squeezing their cars on the opposite side of the street in order to avoid the $52 ticket. Fast forward to the Covid era where working from home became the norm in mine as well as many neighboring households. Lomita temporarily postponed their street sweeping ticket revenue service for a short time during this time, but shortly reinstated it. Meanwhile, Torrance was still postponing their street sweeping for months longer. I have two problems with Lomita and their street sweeping practices. 1) The parking enforcement has now doubled up. They used to patrol on street sweeping days only, but now I see them every day. Are they trying to make up lost revenue for the city during the Covid street sweeping shut down? I have never seen this frequency of parking enforcement in my 20 years here. Story Time: I have a neighbor who was forced to squeeze into a spot across the street from his house due to street sweeping. With no where else to go, he ended up parking near a corner. He didn't even have a chance to move his truck back in front of his house after the sweeper went by, before parking enforcement gave him a $300 + ticket. He would have been better off receiving a $52 ticket for not moving his truck for the sweeper. Hoping he would receive understanding and compassion, he wrote a letter and sent in pictures of where he parked to the city. He explained it was a temporary parking spot while waiting for the sweeper to pass and showed pictures that there was still plenty of room between his truck and the corner. Lomita "The Friendly City" showed zero compassion and declined to help with the violation. 2) The street sweeper literally does nothing. I have attached a photo taken immediately following the sweeper going by. See all the leaves on the sidewalk? They used to be on the street in the gutter. If the sweepers job is to blow the leaves onto the sidewalk, it's working. Ignore the oil stains, they are courtesy of the trailer park residents who leave their leaking cars to sit each week (they used to leave them for multiple weeks until the city enacted the sweeper). If I paid someone to remove leaves and debris from a certain area and all they did was move them from one spot to the other, I would fire them. Why does the city allow the sweeper they hired to continue with this poor service? Why did the city reinstate the sweeper and ticketing prior to the end of Covid while many residents are still working from home? Why did the city allow a huge apartment complex to be built on the corner of Crenshaw and Lomita blvd, where it's already notoriously gridlocked? I'll tell you why... MONEY. At the end of the day, it's always about money. Welcome to Lomita, the friendly city?

Local Sheriff were there along with firemen, local gas, and electric company keeping the vigil with residents. They were still on site even after we were required to leave due to sewer line, potable water issues. They prevented many attempts of vandals from trespassing and looting the homes. *A few months later at a nearby address, we called upon the Lomita Sheriff after some stolen items during the time a subcontractor was in the room alone while the master bathroom was being serviced. The attending Deputy was respectful 100% professional in taking the report, and follow up. *In a recent parking lot fender bender incident between another party and myself, the responding officer Depty Vargas, was 100%, impartial, informative, and polite to both parties to the incident. These are the type of LEO's that the community is proud of. If I don't see a FIVE-STAR icon box to click. 5X5. OK?

I can remember the day like it was yesterday... a day like any other here in Sunny SoCal - my son, a sophomore college student who was majoring in Criminology/Criminal Justice told me when we were out on a hike that he wanted to take this path. Was I completely caught off guard? Yes! Did I give him a long drawn out speech about how when we start things, we finish them and he was absolutely not putting his college education on hold to detour down a different road? Yes! I told him, after he graduates he can explore this passion to serve our country and thought that was the end of it. Fast forward to this March when I check his location and find he's at a local US Army recruiting station and my heart falls out of my chest. As a single mother since he was 9 months old, this past year has been interesting to say the least. As a college graduate he knew he'd go the Officer route and began the prep and testing earlier in the year. He's been to MEPS a few times now. They typically put him up at the LAX Marriott, as a parent of a child who rarely if ever sleeps away from home unless it's at a best friends house this was a very new experience for the both of us. Rooms are shared at the hotel, meals are provided, and wake up seems to be around 230/3a, brekke at 345a, with a shuttle back to the center around 430a. My son was extremely determined to follow his next dream after graduation. He maxxed out on all tests written, physical (we're a fairly athletic family already so these things were no stretch), etc. and went in front of the local board this past October. I knew the week of December 5th would be a very exciting one for him. I also knew within ten days I'd have the end date to our Book 1 Chapter 22. My son received his acceptance call from his recruiter as told on Dec 9th (congrats to all accepted), he signed his 8 year 3yr 24month active duty contract and was sworn in 4 days later. I was not able to be in the building but they live stream these and I was able to watch it in that capacity. Things move extremely slow at MEPS, but food is provided and phones can be used from time to time for communication. My son noted many of the men and women here are very young (high school age). There are no words to express the amount of pride I have in him, the confidence I have in his leadership and admiration I have for his courage and bravery. He'll be at Fort Jackson and then at Fort Benning. So while I look up every yummy restaurant and fun spot in Columbia and Columbus, and pick out graduation dresses he is off on a very big and exciting journey to serve amongst the less than 1% (a category I do love us tackling but my marathons just can't quite compare to this on any level). I know my two grandfathers are smiling down, beaming with pride. I truly believe all men should be required to, as time has passed I see so many benefits to it. I don't like using the word "real man" but I really do feel like it takes a certain kind to go active duty and quite frankly out here in the West I don't think it's as common as in other states. I know our political party has nothing to really do with this and some are going strictly for the benefits, and even marrying for extra cash flow which is certainly a path. My son doesn't care much about the salary, his motive is service and acquiring the skills to better land a spot in the CIA or FBI by way of becoming a US Army Ranger serving in the 75th regiment. Reach for the stars baby! Columbia, SC here we come!!! Ok, maybe just me for graduation, yummy bites and weekend adventures. I refuse to be the crazy mom who does a short term rental near the base just to know I'm breathing the same air near him, unless.... I do that near Fort Benning ;) kidding kidding. Bring your patience when you are coming here, the days are long and things like fingerprints can take 5 hours to do in just a few minutes. Travel arrangements for ship dates are taken care of here but seem to be an all day process as well. Patience, patience, patience. Hurry up and wait is definitely accurate. Everyone else that walked-in got turned away and were told to make an appointment. Do not waste your time unless you have an appointment, I got LUCKY! Parking structure is on magnolia just before ocean on the right hand side, not sure how much it is to pay, also got lucky with street parking right on the corner where the office is located. There's a metal detector at the main entrance, so if you carry a pocket knife leave that in the car! Security will let you know what floor to go to upon entry. As for the service, I was lucky again to speak with their supervisor (Juan) who did a great job at assisting me with my issue. I closed escrow on a property over 1-1/2 years ago and they had not credited a $9k check to my account and I've been getting the "run-around" making several calls to the IRS with no resolution. He was able to verify the check cleared and input the credit for my next years tax return. They don't give confirmation numbers or any type of documentation to verify this so you'll have to take their word for it and check the system if you have an online IRS account. I was told it should be credited to me within 4-6 weeks which is better than waiting over the phone for hours just to get disconnected. I'll check back in to update my review and let you guys know if it's worth it to come in and see someone in person, or to just play the long game and hope someone over the phone can help. Until then good luck to anyone with IRS tax issues, hang in there, I feel your pain. Hopefully this visit with Juan was productive.
