But it's in a cool area so that's a plus. Easy to navigate and easy in-out. I went to the psd there to get my cac card. The old male treated me differently. His tone was friendly at first. He called me and I entered his office. Everything changed after he saw my face. Yes I'm an Asian female. His attitude changed and started to rush me, complaining my fingerprints. He gave no reaction to my words. After he handed me the ID, I said :" thank you sir." Again, he ignored my words. Even though he didn't say bad words to me, his attitude made me feel terrible. (Btw the lady in the front desk was quite friendly and helpful. Four times a year in the 2nd month of every quarter, the Regional Military Affairs Committee of the Los Alamitos Area Chamber of Commerce conducts a tour of the Joint Force Training Base & Los Alamitos Army Airfield. Call the Los Alamitos Chamber of Commerce (562) 598-6659 to RSVP for the limited number of spaces available for this tour of the base. For those interested in what a military canteen can offer, there is the Pub at Fiddllers GreenBldg #19, 4745 Yorktown, that opens at 11am serving sandwiches, burgers, salads where there are military & law enforcement personnel in training partaking of the food. Eating here is not exactly tres haut gourmet, but it's a great place to get into the mood of being at a military base where testosterone is at a high level. The tour of the base starts at 1pm in Building #244. You are required to show a photo ID to enter at the front gate of JFTB, and ask the guard there for instructions on how to get to the Pub or Bldg. #244. The tour takes about 2 hours in a military transport bus. In other words, no air conditioning, plush reclining seats, tinted windows, scented mood aromas, piped in mood music, restroom in the back with heated toilet seat & bidet. This is for the grunts who can take the hardship and can tough it out. Most of us Americans have gotten too soft by living high on the hog with waistlines & big butts to prove it so don't complain when you board this spartan, ascetic, no-nonsense bus which is meant to accomodate the fit & virile. Highlights of the trip were the visit to the airfield where a fireman associated with the airstrip gave us a brief detail of operations, and at the control center where a seasoned military man informed us that JFTB was the only functional military base in all of Los Angeles & Orange County which can serve as a command center in times of natural & man made disasters. He mentioned that JFTB was an island surrounded on 3 sides by residential developments most of which were built after the creation of the base, and how hard it was to maintain a good neighbor policy by making sure that military air maneuvers & movement would not unduly disturb the peace of the surrounding areas. Although all measures humanly possible should be taken to minimize the effects of noise from a military base, and since the base came in before most of the residential development, people who live near the base should have been well aware of the possible noise before they bought their homes. As the saying goes, "Caveat Emptor, buyer beware." The biggest thrill was being able to utilize the Engagement Skills Trainer that uses "real" weapons on an indoor laser range. Although gun ranges using real bullets can potentially be dangerous, witness the 8 year old girl who accidently shot & killed her gun instructor, the lasers used in this simulated rifle range was sheer fun & enjoyment. An amiable master sargeant instructed us on how to load & activate the rifle as well as what kinds of stance would be optimal. We shot at projected gunmen in an urban scene although many more scenarios can also be projected depending on what kind of location is the desired battleground. Our seasoned Vietnam veteran volunteer was a great guide to showing us around the base. Avuncular & fatherly, he was the right man to show us different aspects of base operations as well as letting us know about the civilian aspects of the functions around base such as a very effective high school for academic at risk students, use of the olympic size pool for Olympic US swim teams, etc. This free tour is well worth the time & effort to get here. Good introduction to what US military personnel & bases do, and their importance to the protection of our society in general. 3 Cheers for our men/women in uniform. read more

Here for the Los Alamitos Race On The Base. Part of the Orange County California series. The base's main entrance is on Lexington & Farquar, off Katella and access is pretty simple. The soldiers who man the gates are pleasant greeting visitors with a smile. Make sure to observe the speed limit, show your ID, listen to their instructions, and don't argue (quickest way to get in trouble on federal government property) with them. This base is very active and included visits from Bush and Obama when I use to live here. The base is used when Huntington Beach has an airshow, and is considered a Main Base now that El Toro is no longer. Once in awhile, there will be fighter jets flying sorties, but this base is mainly helicopters and transport planes. read more

Los Alamitos JFTB is the only remaining military base in metropolitain Los Angeles and Orange County. Los Angeles CountyThe base has two main yearly events. Race on the Base (5K, 10K, Triathalon) in Februrary and the Wings Wheels and Rotors Expo (WWRE) -Carshow, helicopters, Warbirs, and military hardward and aircraft. Both event are great for the family. Race one the base is a flat course over the runways and taxiways of Los Alamitos Army Airfield. Usually along the course there are a few Blackhawks helos. We stayed last year to watch the Triathalon and it was pretty exciting to watch. WWRE is usually held the 3rd Sunday of October. If you have a classic car you can register to enter it. If you have a classic plane or helicopter you can put it on static display. If your in the military you can bring your helo or plane as well. All are welcome. Several weeks ago I was headed down Main Street in Seal Beach and saw a banner for Fiddler on the Roof with music by the Orange County Symphony. I called and purchased tickets for opening night. I researched the venue and found out it was at the Liberty Theatre. I punched the address into our navigation guide and low and behold our navigation took us to the main gate of the Los Alamitos Joint Forces Training Base. My friend and I started laughing saying our navigation was taking us on a wild goose chase. We rolled up to the gate and told the sentry who was armed and in military fatigues that we were headed to the Fiddler on the Roof play. He asked to see my I.D. and that kindly directed me in the direction I needed to go. I had served in the Military and driving onto this base brought back some memories. It does not matter what branch of service you were in all the bases tend to follow the same construction plan and the buildings look the same in California as they do Singapore, Africa, UAE, Bahrain, Iraq, Korea, Germany or any other place the USA might have a Base. We were very early and I suggested we drive around a bit and see what they base had to offer. We found several displays of helicopters, gun ship, field artillery, Humvees that appeared to have just returned from Iraq & even had an area dedicated to a fallen Special Operations solider. The color (The Flag) was displayed in an open field. I explained to my friend how when the base raises & lowers colors the base comes to a standstill, all vehicle & pedestrian traffic comes to a stop. We found an Uncle Sam's restaurant located right next to the theatre we needed to be at which was funny & cool. The base looked light an absolute ghost town, there was no activity on the base; no one was walking around no nada. I t was still very cool that this base allows venues at the Liberty Theatre to take place. read more

4th July fireworks review. Amazing display at the air strip. The air strip is open to public on the 4th of July. There are vendors, military vehicles on display but the main attraction is the fire work show on the open field. Airstrip has miles of open area with a view of almost 180 degrees . Beyond the trees and the horizon , one can see fireworks by private individuals, cities, and even distance display of disney fireworks but the best was base doing their firework display. The firework show went on for atleast half an hour. And it was best I have ever seen. The colors are pretty. Music was nice and the little kids roaring in the back ground made it all the more exciting. I was bit disappointed by small number of vendors with their high price food this year but it balanced out with good parking, air planes and other military vehicles on display . The parking was free but it was crowded. We decided to stay and watch more fireworks instead of being stuck in outgoing traffic. Suggestions: bring your lawn chairs and jackets. It gets windy and cold. read more

Every year I attend the Wings, Wheels and Rotors at the Los Alamitos Air Base. The air base is a bit run down, and wish the funds were available to update it. This air base provides swimming and various sports facilities to people who live in the City of Cypress. I also get to Run on the Base 5k here-j enjoy looking at the planes during my run/walk. I'm grateful that the air base allows the Wings, Wheels and Rotors to put this event-it's always a joy to get up close to planes and emergency vehicle. They always have a representative from the different agencies providing information. A plethora of food vendors to provide your eating needs, and clothing vendors. This year, they did not have the Big C-17 which is always a highlight. There were plenty of vintage airplanes, and helicopter rides. I always stop and Thank our military for serving our country. read more

I came to this DEERS location because the Army HRC told me they came to assist me and my dependents in updating my health benefits. The older guy who wears glasses in his office is right in front of the sign-in roster. He was insulting and impatient; he over-talked me when I tried to explain my situation. He informed me that this was a unit issue/ HRC. I tried to explain to him, and both my S1s contacted Tri-Care, Mil Connect, DEERS, and the HRC project office who all said the faster way to update my healthcare benefits was to come to an Army deers location. He told me that the only reason I'm going to update your status is because you have dependents, and I couldn't help you. After this, he left the office and called the next person in. He didn't tell me whether he updated my status or not. So I and this random person are sitting beside each other, confused. I asked him if he was done he said yeah, you can leave. I was confused about why I was being treated this way. I wasn't rude. I heard him out, and I would like to submit an ICE Complaint, but this base doesn't have one. read more

I wasn't sure where else to post this, but the JFTB has a banquet hall and caterer for events. I got married here, had my ceremony on the grass over looking the air field. There is a lovely stone patio directly adjacent to the banquet room which is nicely decorated but still neutral enough to adjust to any type of event. The banquet room has floor to ceiling windows on one side which makes for nice light and is stumbling distance to the pub at fiddlers green. This worked out well because for my wedding, I bought the beer & wine catering package, and those that wanted something a little stronger could take a few steps down the hall to the pub. More recently, I went to a 90th birthday party in the same banquet room and it was still a lovely spot and the catering was better than it was when I got married. Prime rib, chicken, sides from a staffed buffet. Jesus, the catering manager is very attentive to detail and attentive to needs of the guests. The front of the building is really pretty, has nice wooden doors, there is nice greenery and landscaping out front also,,so for photos there are good neutral backdrops with wide open spaces. Parking is plentiful, the restrooms are close to the banquet hall and are very nice looking, not at all industrial or 'military' feeling. read more

Came here for the fireworks show. I have heard that it takes from 20 mins up to an hour to get in here for the show, so we came prepared to wait. It's so organized at this place that I really don't think that it took us longer than 10 - 15 mins to get in (and part of that was because we had to drive all the way around the place). Tons of places for parking, tons of places to sit and watch fireworks, and food trucks and fun for the kiddies set up before the show started. So nice! We will be coming back next year for an awesome to see, easy to get to, safe 4th of July show. Oh, and did I mention, it was free to get in? Saaahwweeet! read more

My daughter took a two-week swimming class here recently through the city of Los Alamitos. The swimming pool is a nice, comfortable facility that isn't fancy or even contemporary; just plain practical. The U.S. Olympic women's water polo team practices here quite frequently. The only issue I had with the facility had to do with our first visit. We had no clue where to go to find the pool. There weren't any posted signs or visible cues to assist us. However, once you do find the correct location, there is about a 100 yard walk from the parking lot to the gym area. Before you head into the entire complex, be ready to show your identification card (driver's license) to an awaiting officer up front. read more

I went to the Deers office and had no issue with the workers there. It is slow to get a new card, but that is because of the card printer. If you are going to complain about doing a walk in, then make an appointment and/or go to another Deers office. They are all slow because of the card printer. Expect to be there a couple of hours. Also, this is a military base. Chances are you are in the military and have survived several weeks of being yelled at and are probably being told what to do on a frequent basis. Don't expect them to baby and coddle you. As long as they are not derogatory, grow a thick layer of skin and suck it up. They are professional and upfront. read more

I am a retired Navy civilian that worked for the US Navy for 35+ years. Naval Weapons Station, Seal Beach, confiscated my Navy retiree badge last December because it was expired. Unfortunately, they do not issue these badges, so I attempted to call the Joint Force Training Base office, which does. I left a voice mail, but no one ever called back. So I decided to drive there. I went on a Friday, only to find out they do not do walk ins on Fridays, only Monday through Thursday 7:am to 11:am. While I was there, I inquired about the fact that I left a voice mail, but no one ever called me back. I was told "Oh yeah, they do not call anyone and no one ever answers that phone." This conversation took place near another telephone at the front desk (which I later learned is manned by volunteers), so I asked if I could have that number. After they finally figured out what that phone number was, they provided it to me (Strike One!). The second time I went there was on a Tuesday morning, I arrived at 8:am. There was a sign posted out front explaining that the system was down, but it also said that retiree badges could be issued. Unfortunately, when I went inside, I was told their system had been down for a couple of weeks and that the sign only meant military "paper" retirement badges (Strike Two!). The gentleman suggested I call the first number (the phone no one answers) and if there IS NOT a message saying the system was down, I should come on in. So a couple of weeks later, I called. Since the message gave no indication the system was still down, I drove back to Los Alamitos, only to be told (at 9:am) that there were too many people, because the system had been down half the morning (Strike three!). When I returned home I went online thinking, I'll just make an appointment. The page said green blocks were open days. Guess what, there wasn't one green block anywhere! I looked online and found out that Coast Guard Base in San Pedro can issue the retiree badge I need. I went on their calendar, found an appointment (green blocks everywhere) and even called and spoke to a human being who answered the phone and all of my questions! So my suggestion to anyone in Orange County or Long Beach, avoid Joint Force Training Base, Los Alamitos for any ID issues! read more

Wish the PX was bigger and had a commissary, but other then that the MP's are pretty chill the gym is useful and the pool is awesome. They are doing some construction right now and it's looking good so far, can't wait for the construction to finish so my car would quit getting dirty every time I drive through the base. read more

Came for WWRE Expo Sunday 10/27. Was a last second decision, but the event was well planned, everyone there was very friendly, even though the budget sequestration limited the amount of military aircraft, I still had a good time with my girlfriend. We have been to the top airshows such as Nellis and Miramar, this doesnt really compare but its also only 10 minutes away from home! read more

The deers office is absolutely horrible. Its outrageous how slow these people actually operate. Even if you get there at a decent time, the wait is always hours long, often times your turned away. I've recently came here to get a Military I.D. Card at DEERS as a walk in on a Thursday. The customer service here sucks! When you come and sign in an elderly man just hands you a number and yells at everyone asking "What are you here for?!" He makes it seems as if you came here to buy groceries and not come get an I.D. card. That's why most people are here! Duh! I arrived at 7:45am. By 8:30am he was already yelling at everyone coming in that there's a 2 1/2 hour wait and if he hasn't seen you by 11:00am he will turn you away. Really?! He says his shift is from 6:15am-11:15am. This man is rude and does not have good customer service skills! When people come in, you should greet them and give information what is needed before yelling at people as they are walking in. They need another worker here to process I.D. Besides him Or need to hire someone that can work the whole day with the basic skills of treating people with respect and sense of urgency. read more

My review is for sunburst academy!!! Enrollment sucks!!! make sure to make extra copies of paperwork that they ask you for. They will lose most of the paperwork!!!! and claim they never got it. Some of the staff are rude as fuck!!!!! they act like they're doing you a favor. No the state pays for it!! Also the school supplies they ask for its not mandatory!! if u get the package from JTK supplies it will save you money. read more
