I went here to get my license plates / tags and titles. After walking in, there are two lines (one for existing and one for new). Being new, I went into that lane. I knew exactly what I needed to bring with me as well, so i came prepared. I got there around 4pm and was out of the door by closing (5pm). (around 7 people in front of me. I provided my Proof of NC Insurance; the titles to my vehicles (You need to provide a new set of current mileage) as well as my NC Drivers license in order to proceed to the next step. After providing all of this, and signing some documents, the staff member took my title (stating that the state of NC will reissue a new title); provided me with new license plates (issued right there and then) and took the payment. Luckily, I was able to pay by credit card, as being a first time resident of the state, my total came out to be over $1000 to transfer my vehicles in, but the person behind the desk (forgot her name) was extremely pleasant, tolerant and kind to explain all the different charges to me. Overall, the experience was very pleasant, as the staff there were not the typical staff you see in a DMV. Proud, not grumpy and very well mannered. Very appreciate their service and assistance during this process.

Honestly... this mornings visit wasn't as bad as I expected. There was ample parking where you could park just about anywhere. There is an empty Kroger next door with lots of parking. Expect to wait inline outdoors prior to coming inside. The waiting room only sits about 25 people so you have to stand outside until the front desk clerk signals for you to come inside. I was surprised as I showed up with no appointment and was ticketed and seated within an hour and a half. Now the waiting game starts where we will see how long it takes for me to sit down with an officer to get my license renewed. Clean facility, great customer service and smooth location - BUT its still a DMV (rolls eyes)

I hurt my spine and I am waiting for an indepth 6th spinal surgery. Needless to say, I am in excruciating pain. The pain was so intense when I walked into the NCDMV I began perspiring all over my face and body. I became very nauseous, weak, & I had chest palpitations. I stood there and an employee came to check on me. An Examiner walked me over to the chairs. She took the time to be so comforting and kind to me. This awesome kind Examiner brought a fresh bottle of water for me and some paper towels to dry my face off. The Examiner helped me get to the right desk and made sure I was ok. The other Examiner at the desk calmly talked me through doing what I needed to do for my Real ID. What a sweetheart also besides the initial Examiner! Between these two remarkable kind lady Examiners I got through the visit just fine! These two remarkable lady Exsminers were Examiner Wilson and Examiner Thorpe! Kudos to these two professional yet very kind ladies made my visit very comfortable. ​​This was such an uplifting visit. These two sweet helpful Angels were there at a time I needed it! Having two professional kind hearted Examiners such as these two on staff is a feather in your cap...NCDMV!!! Gratitude to both of these pros! This positive experience renewed my faith in society!

I was in/out of my appointment in approximately 15 minutes. CECE was the employee who helped me through the process. CECE was amazing! She was professional, knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly! Text messages kept us informed about our place in line. The staff was smiling, kind, and courteous. My mother was offered a chair since the computer was running slow. We were near the end of the process when it turned out the computer system was down statewide. I asked if I could take my mother home since staff did not know when it would be fixed, and the woman handling her paperwork arranged for me to return before 4:30 to pick up the ID without needing an appointment or my mother. To my surprise, I received a phone call letting me know the paperwork was ready. I stopped by to pick it up and was handed the ID on the spot. Considering the "complications" with the computer system, this was still a pleasant experience. The team there is wonderful!

As they got people in and out the gentleman counted and let more people in. They were very patient, fast, and courteous. NOTE: Make sure you bring your DL/ID, birth certificate, 2 proofs of residency, and marriage license for the Real ID. They all have to match as far as the spelling of your name on all documents. The gentleman comes out periodically to check documents and will let you know if something else is needed for the service you're requesting. Any kind of driving test they start cut offs after 3pm. You have to ask for the specific time. Hope this helps.

I have to say that I would rather go here that to the main DMV office 5 minutes away to get things done. Parking is easy and hassle free, and the line moves at a nice pace assuming you have all your paperwork. There is not much on the inside to look at, just the attendants, a bench, and ATM machine. Other than that it is just a big empty room. They do not do all the stuff like they do at the main office at this one, all they deal with is License Plate issues, so sometimes you still might have to head downtown.

Get in, take a number, have a seat, wait for the number to be called, take care of business and get out - usually 20 minutes or less, unless it's a school vacation day or around the holidays - then it gets time consuming. My secret has always been to get to this location as the place is just opening up, and never try to do my business during or after lunch. The folks who work here are no-nonsense, not chatty, not unfriendly, just all business and wanting to get things done just as much as the next person. They exhibit a great deal of patience and take a lot of abuse from mouthy, know-it-all, rude people. The building is aged and the waiting area isn't necessarily comfortable - hard chairs and no frills. There is a TV screen but I don't pay much attention to it except to see when the next number is called. The atmosphere is not supposed to be something to make one want to stay here anyway.
