The classes offer a blend of traditional CrossFit and Functional Fitness, making it approachable for ALL skills and fitness levels. Great space for some functional fitness! The classes are awesome, and the coaching staff under the guidance of Emily are second to none. NC Fit keeps a tight ship and keeps athletes safe, both with the barbell and movements, as well as providing a clean, safe gym given the current climate we are in with covid. I feel safe and part of this amazing community every time I step foot in the door. From Raina at the front desk to Emily in classes, each individual athlete is welcomed with a genuine smile and is treated like family. I have been going to NCFIT locations for little over 2 years now and have really enjoyed the experience. They're pretty conveniently located around the area with locations in Mountain View, Redwood City, and Pleasanton. (There's also one in Campbell, but I have only been to that location a couple of times.). I generally rotate to each location depending on my schedule and where I'm located that day. No matter what location I go to, the flow of the class is consistent and I feel like I get a good workout each time. I mostly do the metcon workout. The teachers are very good across the board. The equipment is also very clean and modern. One thing I really like about the NCFit gyms is how they focus on good technique. As someone who generally can find lazy and convenient ways of performing almost any action, I do appreciate them taking the initiative to go through the key movements before each class and ensure that I'm following the right form. I found it a little annoying when I first started attending, but you really learn to appreciate the format and start to really notice progress in various lifts and movements over time. They also do a good job of having a series of progressing modifications for movements where it does take longer to master the technique. In many cases, I started with the bare modification and evolved to doing the full movement using RX weights as I became both in better physical condition as well as gaining better form with the movements. My body has also remained healthy, even in areas of my body where I had struggled with pain previously. I would highly recommend these gyms. read more

I have been coming to this gym for several months and it is one of the best gyms in the area. Great coaches and workouts!

This gym just doesn't care and is just here to collect your money. I highly recommend going somewhere else. The coach got mad at me for cleaning up before people were done with the workout. What kind of gym policy doesn't allow you to clean up and leave earlier than everyone else? It was only 8 mins before the end of class. I had to head out early that day to attend to an emergency. Why can't they be more understanding? Also, I signed up for a class of 8 people when I checked the app since I work in the hospital and wanted more social distancing. But, when I got there, there were at least 20 people in the class. How does that add up?People just came without signing up for the class, and some brought a +1--all for free (and not free drop-in since I checked after the class and it was still 8 people signed up). I am paying for this gym so that I can know ahead of time how many people are in the class and avoid the big crowd. Yet, they don't even enforce who signed up? I just don't get it. This is just unfair for those that signed up and also paid. Why is this place 2x price of other gyms and other CrossFit boxes? And yet, they do this to people? And the most basic thing of checking people in properly and enforcing who signed up for the class can't even be done. Some of us work in healthcare and have to be extra cautious about being in a big class. This has happened so many times already, and I can't have it anymore. They just really don't care. You'll get treated like cattle they just need to earn revenue from. read more

I will always be grateful for the NCFIT Mountain View gym. It was a place that saved my fitness during a difficult period of transition in my life and I'm sad to be leaving it due to a job change that takes me out of the area. The coaches are diverse and each has a unique, positive personality that they contribute to members, while also having strong relationships among themselves. They show they care through their enthusiasm, happiness to see you and watchful eye during complex movements. While the class sizes can get big, they often have 2 coaches on the floor and somehow manage to execute the classes smoothly while paying attention to individual movement quality. The coaches themselves compete in CrossFit, are insanely fit, practice mindfulness and nutrition practices, and themselves do the programmed workouts. They walk the talk and this is really important for members to see in their coaches. They are funny, knowledgeable, approachable, kind, and actively promote community between the members. The member mix is a good sampling of general people of all levels working out and some athletes who are really impressive - just enough to be inspiring but not intimidating to someone new to CrossFit. The programming is excellent. It is comprehensive, managing to cover classic CrossFit (benchmark and named workouts), strength, Olympic Weightlifting, aerobic capacity, interval weight training, gymnastics skillwork, recovery/blood flow, functional body building, and some classic body building. One can see that there is a long term design built around benchmark tests that makes logical sense and helps an individual work on progress in an area, rather than just going to do some random workout that crushes you for no reason. For example, a variety of clean and jerk based workouts over the span of weeks, leading up to retesting "Grace" or a 1 rep max clean and jerk. Or a 1 mile test followed by weeks of programming in which running is a component of an interval weight training piece. Frequent gymnastics-oriented EMOMS with muscle up or handstand push up progressions and a variety of scaled options to break down the skill and practice the components with guidance. Programming around the Open seemed tailored to challenge your engine or maintain your fitness, depending on how you wanted to go about the Open, with active recovery workouts programmed for Thursday and the Open workout programmed as the Friday workout. The programming for the weekend is generally a tough, volume-heavy partner workout, hero WOD or something you could take at an easier pace, particularly if it follows a more intense, heavy week of training. The programming is thoughtful and intelligent, and I'm considering buying it to do on my own at my next gym. Also, the warm-ups are a combination of movements tailored to each workout, and are therefore different for every class. This reflects the thoughtful intention behind preparing the body with movement specific warm-ups. This level of attention to detail and intent is really impressive. The weightlifting coaching is as good as you can get in a group class setting. I have received many helpful observations, cues, and suggestions that have helped me understand how I was moving my body, or given me greater awareness around the mechanics of the snatch / clean and jerk / squat / deadlift. Lastly, the front desk staff are warm and friendly, taking care of that all important first moment a member walks in the door, and that last moment when you walk out and they say goodbye. The gym is clean, the equipment is organized, and people seem genuinely happy to be here. Basically NCFIT far exceeds what a standard CrossFit gym does. It provides a level of member experience with great coaches, community and thoughtful programming that well exceed the investment. read more

Scam. 200 dollars for "learning the basics..." aka you must take this before the real classes for no reason. 200 bucks down the drain for the starter course. If thats not enough to make you turn the other way how bout this- its a 200 dollar a month gym to do workouts with a ton of other people paying that. Yikes. They seem to have picked up many more gimmicks recently to better pilfer money out of people that don't know any better. Wow. My wife and I have been attending NCFit at Mountain View for about 3 years, we've gone through different types of gyms (class based and planet fitness type gyms) but after starting we're addicted! They have classes throughout the day, you sign up, show up and get a great workout, if you can't do the movements they have scaling options, and it's not competitive (unless you want it to be) so you get your workout in a manner that you can finish and get a good sweat on. Crossfit really isn't my thing, and I actually didn't realize I was signing up for a Crossfit class since I was going through ClassPass. However, the coach Lindsay was incredibly nice, and genuinely cared about my progress and was encouraging. I worked up a good sweat during NC30. Free, first-time drop-in. 4:30 class with coach Evan. Pros: - Legit, free, first-time visits for experienced CFers. Just fill out the online waiver. - Clean. Equipment up to snuff plus towel service! - Solid coaching. Not wordy and keeps an eye on members to correct/encourage good form. - Good looking staff and members. All were friendly, minus 1 or 2 bad apples. Cons: - 150 wall ball shots. Left gym with jelly-quads and nearly scrubbed stepping down from a curb. Tips: - Parking. Small lot plus street parking. I had pretty limited experience with Crossfit before coming here. They took extra time to make sure that I was doing everything correct as to avoid injury. The facility is clean and well organized. A much more polished and beginner-friendly experience than I've had at other Crossfit gyms. read more

The front desk staff is friendly and great, but I feel like from reading other reviews I'm not alone in feeling like this gym is mostly focused on generating a lot of revenue, so they do not care to accommodate or provide a good experience to drop ins. I travel to NorCal a lot for work and am sad to say I will never return here after a bad experience. This was my go to gym when I was in the area. Information was poorly communicated to me about when open gym hours are allowed and as a result I was stopped in the middle of a qualifier WOD, nothing is worse than having done 70 burpees and being stopped. Instead of just apologizing and taking responsibilitily for poor communication in regards to when open gym is allowed, blame was placed on me for not "reading the website" or knowing what the schedule was, I thought the back room was all for private sessions and open gym, how was I to know any different unless I was told? I paid 50 dollars for 2 drop ins so this is NOT a cheap gym to drop in at, thats especially expensive for open gym, but I was willing to pay it for the freedom and space to do what I needed to do, I always call ahead, I always ask when and where is best for doing my own thing, so to be told I can do my thing and then be interrupted and blamed like that, was pretty disappointing and frustrating. I felt like the coach was just trying to tell me why I was wrong instead of just saying "I'm so sorry, we should have done better in communicating, and I should have said something when I saw you starting a work out right before I knew a class was coming in." Anyway, don't go here if you want to be treated well when you drop in! read more

I was really disappointed with the experience I had simply trying to drop in Wednesday evening. I was in town for a job interview started driving after to see if I tan into a gym or box I could get a workout in to kill time while traffic died down. As someone who has been doing Crossfit for over 3 years I was excited to see NorCal Crossfit and decided to walk in to see how much it was to drop in. I see a female coach just about to send out her class for their warm up run and approach her. She informs me it's free for first drop in but instead of politely asking if I have ever done Crossfit she looks at me and assumes I had never done Crossfit. YES I realize I am not a size 2 but to me that was not only rude but disappointing because Crossfit is suppose to be accepting of all people shaped and sizes and that is not how I felt at all. On top of that I realize it was 5 minutes into the class and realize it's late but I inform her I have done Crossfit and am interested but she lets me know the class has already started and next class wouldn't be u til 7:30pm at the same time someone is walking in late for class and he joins without a problem. I would have hoped that a box so known would welcome me excitedly but that was not the case. read more

NorCal has the best coaches and facilities in the area. JD runs the Mt. View location and is a former strength and conditioning coach at Iowa State. Very high energy, always positive and can really communicate the finer points about the more complicated movements. Evan, DH, Denicia and Megan all find a way to get you to push a little harder in each workout. All are very accomplished Crossfitters.
