I joined FunLife in November 2024, and it's been a great experience! Their workouts remind me of CrossFit WODs, but it's not exactly like CrossFit because I think they slow things down to focus on good form, and the coach-to-athlete ratio is smaller. Each day of the week has a different focus--upper body, lower body, conditioning, Olympic lifting--and they rotate the workout cycle every 6 weeks. This allows for progressive overload, and just when I think I've mastered the form, the program changes and keeps things fresh. Due to my main sport, I have an irregular schedule, so I appreciate that they offer a variety of flexible membership plans. A major perk is being assigned a personal coach who checks in with you weekly for the first 12 weeks and then once a month thereafter on paper. In reality, I see my coach Carina more often than that from attending sessions where she is coaching, and when I go to open gym. Carina has been incredibly helpful in supporting my specific fitness goals for my sport--crewing in dinghy team racing and working bow in big boat sailing. She created a custom workout plan (which she updates every few weeks) that incorporates the exact movements I need, like pulling ropes at specific angles--something I haven't been able to find anywhere else. She also helps me address any random soreness from other activities with targeted stretches and mobility work. The gym also has an InBody machine that you can use anytime to track your progress. I've seen a measurable decrease in body fat and an increase in muscle mass, which is very validating. This review might make it sound like I'm really into working out, but my natural state is being a potato. What gives me the extra push to haul my butt to the gym is worrying that the dogs Koa, Koda, Kona, and Loki will forget what I smell like if I skip a week. (Those are the regulars I see, maybe there are more fur angels?!) They're all super sweet and provide much-needed dog therapy. And if you're not into dogs, don't worry--they're well-behaved and won't bother you. I think I need a conclusion paragraph. Basically, I have found that FunLife is a good investment in my physical and mental health (yay dogs!) because of the flexible membership plans, variety of sessions, coaching, and other nice-to-haves like open gym sessions and the InBody scanner. When I joined 8 months ago, I was probably in the worst shape of my life. I was deconditioned and much weaker and had gained a bit of weight from being in the early stages of perimenopause, recovering from a very demanding and stressful job, and had developed poor lifestyle habits as a result. But when I joined FL, I made a commitment to myself to change all of that and I have never felt better, stronger or healthier in my mid 40's. Thanks in part to the challenging yet fun classes I have been taking at least 2-3x a week since I first joined. Carina, my 1:1 check in coach has also been a pleasure to work with. Her positive and upbeat attitude has really helped to motivate me even though I like to complain about the conditioning classes which tbh sometimes feel like torture lol but I always feel better after I'm done. Great small-class fitness studio focused on strength and conditioning. Classes are 10 people max with 2 coaches, offering lots of personal attention, help with form, spotting, etc. Classes and coaches are pretty evenly split between men and women, which helps make this a comfortable and non-toxic place for folks new to lifting or starting/restarting their fitness journeys. Modifications help tailor things to different ability levels, and injuries can be accommodated. Regular one on one check-ins zero in on individual challenges including movement, nutrition, and hydration. Love the workouts, community and having been used to FL for a while now, I can say that if you want to truly step up your fitness, not goof around, have guided workout plans - this is the place. I have been with FL for about a year. As a menopausal woman with previous injuries and other new ones that just spring up from time to time with no reasoning! FL has been great at modifying but also knowing when to push and when to back off. The awesome Mountain View community at FL are inspiring and welcoming. I have been a member of FL for over a year and have seen the results. The structure of small group classes, with one on one check ins, as well as the community that is built within the classes is unmatched. I am pushed every day to improve and to become stronger. Also, The coaches at the gym inspire all the gym goers to push themself, be safe, and to live a balanced life. Not only is muscle strengthening a focus, but nutrition and sleep are also addressed. I personally have done private training with Amanda, where the sessions were intentional, goal focused, and pushed me to get stronger. I recently joined Functional Lifestyle, in attempts to live a healthier lifestyle as I edge into "middle-age". I had passed by the gym on El Camino before, saw the intense equipment in the parking lot, and had told myself "not for me". However, I saw that they offered a free consultation, along with 2 free classes and decided to give it a try. After the first consultation, it was brought to my attention that my body was in much worse shape that I had thought it to be in, and I signed up. I have been attending classes twice a week, and working with Coach Hana on lifestyle changes outside of class. While it's still too early to say my life has been changed for the better, I can say I feel stronger and have more energy. It's been one month, and I am starting to see the change in my body (and the scale doesn't lie!) The class is small enough (only 10 people per class with 2 coaches) that I get the attention that my still-pathetic muscles and posture definitely need, but has enough people that I can't find a way out of the workouts. All the coaches carry a wonderful energy, and it rubs off on everybody in the class. We are all sore and tired by the end, but we're smiling and signing up for the next class. 10/10 would recommend! read more

I've been doing classes (10 people with 2 coaches) at FL for the past 6 months, starting at about 6 months postpartum, and it's been exactly what I needed to rebuild strength, confidence, and consistency. Weekly check-ins with Amanda have been especially helpful in rebuilding my core, and all of the coaches -- Glenn, Amanda, Alvin, Hana, Drew, Carina, and Corey -- bring so much knowledge and care to their coaching. I love the 6-week programming cycles (i.e., you do the same workout on Mondays for a 6-week period) because they're long enough to master the movements and see real strength gains, but varied enough to keep things exciting. They also track what you're lifting and report it back to you each week, so there's no struggle to remember where you left off. But the community is what truly sets FL apart -- they create a super supportive and fun environment where you're competing against yourself week-to-week. As a person who has struggled with staying consistent in my fitness routine over the years, joining this gym has been a game changer! The coaches are all wonderful and supportive, getting us all motivated to reach our potential. I love the thoughtful programming, and walking in to every class knowing that a great workout has already been planned for me- all I have to do is show up and put in the work, and I'll see the results.
