I was introduced to NE Styles by a friend about a year ago. I needed a cut because my hair was getting out of control, so I went to try this place out. Annie had a lot of information on the trending styles and gave me some recommendations on how I could get mine done. Usually, I go with the flow with my hair (letting the barbers do their thing). Thank goodness for Annie!! As an Asian-American with thick and very full hair, I had difficulty finding a good hair salon my whole life. White hairdressers wouldn't know how to cut or color my hair while I couldn't communicate what I wanted to Korean hairdressers because of language barriers and differing styles. I was looking for a new hairstylist and I found this place on yelp. I saw the photos of the Korean guys and I was like hey I'm a Korean guy too. There's a lot of places to get your hair cut but for me personally I'm used to hairstylists that are good with my demographic (asian, young adult). I totally got that vibe with Annie and we clicked easily. I'm not too picky about my hair and I wasn't too specific about what I wanted but imo it looks pretty good. She taught me a few things about styling at the end as well. I really wanted to like Annie and this is nothing against her personally, but I've been looking for a good, reliable hairstylist ever since mine moved away :( I am still sad about it. Anyway, Annie's salon is located within a community salon building. I've never seen this before, but it's quite interesting. Each stylist has their own rented out room, kind of like its own private salon. Annie was late to our appointment, which happens, so no big deal. I tried to tell Annie what I was looking for and she seemed like she wanted to talk through it, but didn't ask for photographs and when I did show them to her, she kind of just glanced. Although she had advice on what to cut based on my lifestyle and situation (sustainable cut, I guess you can call it), I asked her for something specific that she just flat out refused to do or felt very strongly against doing. I trusted her opinion and now I hate my hair. She gave me a hairstyle that basically looks identical to her own hairstyle. Now I have to grow it out again and find someone else. read more

Got my hair cut earlier today. My girlfriend is extremely picky when it comes to my hair and we've tried a few stylists in the area. I've heard great things about Annie's work, and although my hair was getting way too long and messy, I held off on going to other stylists for a little over two weeks until both my schedule and Annie's availability matched. Totally worth it!! I had a very helpful consultation when I sat down and asked for suggestions. With just a few general guidelines given to her, Annie came up with a damned fine solution and shared with me how I can style my hair at home with better results, the whys and reasoning behind her process, and pretty much turned it into a very helpful educational experience. Her work was totally on point. My girlfriend loves it and is extremely happy with my haircut. Apparently, lots of other people feel the same way! First things first, hair cut came out exceeding all expectations. I care a lot about my hair, especially because it is very unruly and I have a lot of it. She was able to tame it and give me a hair cut so good that I left feeling more confident than I've felt in years. Seriously, best hair cut I've received. Also, on top of the good hair cut, she's an amazing conversationalist. As a Korean American, it feels hard trying to find a good hair salon and stylist because you need to find someone who's very experienced with Asian hair because of how different it is. The problem is that sometimes it is hard to find a stylist that you can communicate effectively with if you don't know Korean. If you're a second generation Korean American, you probably can relate. Annie is the best! She's a cool gal and so easy to talk to. I was so amazed by her talent. I went to her for color. I told her that I wanted to become platinum blonde. Now mind you, I am Korean with dark and thick hair. She was real with me and told me that me being platinum blonde was unlikely in one session. She thoroughly explained the steps to becoming platinum blonde. I proceeded and after the first round, I realized that the color just didn't suit me.
