Our second year attending the annual lights display. Had a wonderful time walking through with my sister and my nephews. Appreciate the shuttle offered from the school which we were able park. Cool interactive lighting display and a fun way to get some steps in. This year there were 4 food truck options on site, loved the options. Looking forward to keeping the tradition going next year! I love a good greenway! As a Carolina dweller, I tend to thrive in open spaces and this was no different. The trail has 3 different types of paths and leads to hikes too. The gravel and planks were so different and rustic. I was able to see the marsh and walk in the trees. Definitely a great walk. Kid friendly spaced with open airy walks. Multiple directions and connected to other trails too! read more

Neabsco Boardwalk - Parks Near Me - Woodbridge, Virginia

Approx. 1/2 mile elevated boardwalk through a thriving wetlands. Large variety of plants and animals to see here. On this trip, we saw large variety of birds (including a great blue heron) beaver dams, turtles and a snake. Early May was a great day for this stroll. This is a nice little free light display in PWC. It opens at 5:30 and was kind of crowded by our arrival around 5:45. There is a food truck onsite plus a couple of vendors. There are many photo opportunities both before the boardwalk and after. Pets are welcomed. Make sure to go to the observation deck to get a nice overview of the entire display. Parking is a slight issue-there is none on site so a few schools in the area provide parking and have a shuttle to the lights. Definitely a nice option if you have little kids and don't want to spend a lot of money to see some lights. read more

We decided to go a little bit out to check this park/boardwalk. Nice clean boardwalk and park, awesome views, clean and not overly crowded. We only did the top part of boardwalk a little less than 1 mile to the end of the observation deck. There is a closer observation deck that is on the street side view. We went to the farthest end which was relaxing and gorgeous. A couple of benches all around boardwalk if you're tired or would just like to sit down enjoying the view. The park itself has plenty of ample parking with kids playground, volleyball court, grill benches and portable potty. Overall we'd def come back to walk it again. Both my pup and I definitely had a great time. Maybe next time going closer to sunset :) read more

Under a 45-minute drive from Southeast Washington, D.C. is a boardwalk through a nature preserve. Here's what you should know about Neabsco boardwalk: 1) Free: Like all parks in the area, it's open to the public at no cost. 2) Parking: There's a large lot at the Neabsco Park. Hike south on the Potomac Heritage Trail for about five minutes before hitting the boardwalk. 3) Boardwalk: It's almost a mile long and pretty wide allowing for social distancing as you pass other visitors. There are several places to hop onto the boardwalk. Note that there's no shade on the boardwalk so plan accordingly. 4) Restrooms: There are two open outhouses at the Neabsco Park. 5) Wildlife: You'll see ducks, herons and other wildlife. There's a wooden tower that gives especially good views of the nature preserve. read more

This is my favorite spot to get some sunshine, air, and much needed outside cardio. Before the pandemic I did not even know this places existed and I'm so happy (not for the pandemic) , but that I found this place. I love the gym don't get me wrong but sometimes I just want to get a nice walk/jog outside and see nature. The parking lot here is kind of small especially now that most of the woodbridge/dumfries area now knows about this place it can get packed quickly on a nice day. I was here on this past Wednesday but I like to come out at least once a week just to get that fresh air! Just walking on the boardwalk and admiring nature I have a big smile on my face every time I see my favorite animals which are turtles in the water. I've seen many other types of birds and other wild life as I'm walking the paths. I like they have the workout stations throughout the area so you can get in a little pump while you are doing your walk/run. My main issue here is that many people continue to litter not only masks, but water bottles, and other miscellaneous trash that anyone with good sense should know to throw in trash can. Wildlife needs are help and we shouldn't be so careless to cause unnecessary harm. Again....I will continue to come here to clear my mind and get in some well needed outside cardio! read more

This place was so great. We went on a nice breezy day and that helps. So many birds. We saw a beaver and turtles and those pesky snake mouth fish. It was so pretty and not a tough trail. Great for everyone I'd say. read more

I think this is my new favorite place to enjoy!!! Such a beautiful concept and well designed!! The boardwalk is wide enough to where you don't have to bump into people to pass by them. You also get to take in so much nature along the way from every spot on the boardwalk. Walk up to the top if the overlook and you can get a wide pane view of the entire area. We were lucky enough to see a train pass by as well as a crane. Make sure you look at the paneling along the boardwalk and it tells you what to look to see if you can spot it. Makes for a good time and depending on what it is, it may take you a while to find them. There are additional trails and pathways along the outskirts of the boardwalk to extend your visit. I do appreciate all workout stations along the way that you can do just about any workout. There are also directions at each station on how to use the equipment. If you have younger kids, there is also a playground for them along with a pavilion with picnic tables. Lastly, if you have to use the restroom, they have port-a-potties for ya! read more

One of my favorite easy hikes! This is a lot like Huntley Meadows to the north, as it's swampland that's been preserved. Am grateful for this, and also that people of all abilities have the opportunity to visit here. The boardwalk is by itself stunning, yet my favorite times here, have been seeing bald eagles and osprey fly. What a incredible rush of adrenaline. A lot of folks bring long lens cameras, and every time I go here, for whatever reason forget it. Have been here many times too. The hike is I'll guess 8/10th of a mile each way or so. It's all on the flat boardwalk, and sits 8 to 10 feet above marsh and streams most of it. There's one section where you're at the water level. Here you can see turtles, frogs, and my favorite of all. Serpents! Have seen black rat snakes, garters, and also non venomous Northern Water snakes. Bird watching gets all the positive attention, but for the many of us who enjoy amphibians and reptiles, this can be a good viewing area. There's plenty of parking, and I hope you'll consider this one. read more

Beautiful walkway. There are a lot of peaceful animal sightings such as birds, beavers, herons, and dragonflies. Great to walk your dog, watch the sunset, or play a family game of volleyball.During Christmas the boardwalk is lit up with decorations including a musical walk through. The Neabsco Boardwalk is a 3/4 mile walk that looks over Virginia marshlands. Blue herons, sparrows, and wood ducks call this area home (all we saw was a fuzzy white caterpillar though). I would not recommend on a hot morning as there is no shade but it is perfect for breezy nights and the boardwalk makes it super easy for little toddler legs to navigate. Make sure to wear appropriate PPE as some areas can get pretty clogged due to the narrowness of the boardwalk. Other than that, it is pretty easy to socially distance and enjoy nature. I highly recommend! read more

Absolutely beautiful and clean. There was some trash in the water but that is due to humans being trash. There is a play ground places to stretch, a few workout things, porta-potties and several different paths. There is a place you can view the area from up high. Dog friendly! 20/10 recommend. This is a wonderful spot that we enjoy as a family. We bring our daughters bike and she loves running and making her way through the endless boardwalk. Also, a great way to tire her out. It's very peaceful and there is a lot of lush greenery to check out. We've seen all types of birds and turtles As well as fish. There are several spots to stop a long the walk. Many families walk dogs or ride bikes. Our favorite part is the playground that sits right after the parking lot and before the trail starts. We always stop after our walk to let our daughter play. Def recommend Also- get yourself some Astoria pizza while you're in Woodbridge! read more

What a beautiful place! This fairly new boardwalk is very well-maintained and goes over tall grassy wetlands. It was smooth enough to walk, bike, stroll, scoot, or whatever else you'd want to do! It's just under a mile of boardwalk, and I did find at least one little mini-boardwalk that went through the woods, too. There's an observation deck where you have a decent view of the place. I heard a lot of frogs, and I spotted turtles, dragonflies, red-winged blackbirds, and other creatures. There were lots of beautiful flowers as well. It's a great place to bring kids, and there is even a playground right next to the parking lot. read more

This is fairly new! Super cute to go on a nice stroll. If you have small children in a stroller you must stay on the boardwalk. However if your kids are mobile you can go on small trails and explore! Im giving it 4 stars only because if you do need a stroller there really isn't much but to stay on the flat side on the boardwalk...they do have a playground though! read more

This a wonderful place where you can definitely get some good unwind and stay in touch with nature. The boardwalk is absolutely amazing. Just one thing don't choose a hot and sunny day unless you don't care the heat. At the end of the boardwalk you can do some quick trails if you're down for it. We live in the big city of NYC so every time we get the chance to come here we take advantage of all nature possible. Definitely recommend to everyone. read more

I will be the first to admit, when I heard of this project many years ago I was curious what would make a winding boardwalk through the creek so special. Now, we enjoy visiting so much that we can't imagine living without such a gem nearby! We enjoy taking the kids and they love seeing how many turtles they can spot (the most so far was 44 total in one afternoon). Eagles, osprey, snakes, fish, and more can be seen easily in one visit. Some visitors choose to run, ride their bikes, walk their dogs along the well constructed boardwalk. We'd love to see more information posted about animals and plants down the road! Side note: The only thing that bothers me when we visit is what little regard some of the visitors have for nature. Seeing discarded masks, water bottles, over the sides of the boardwalk itself can be disheartening. Bottom line: Visit regularly across the seasons to get a real taste for what the boardwalk has to offer! read more

This park is a respite from the city jungle. It's free and there's plenty of parking. You can take the asphalt path or the dirt path. They both lead to the entrance to the boardwalk. There are benches and workout stations along the way. You will see birds, butterflies, frogs, plants, turtles, fish, dragonflies, and more. It's a great place to take the kids to show them nature at its best. Unfortunately you can still hear the cars on the highway. The boardwalk meanders along with several observation towers. The walk is wide enough to accommodate passers by without intrusion. There are a couple of porta potties which unfortunately are not very sanitary. read more
