Dr Chambers and Dr Saleh' are awesome. I've been going to Shelter Island Med for many years. My wife at one point asked for a specialist w another network.. I said we could try them.. we switched back w in months. Chambers is old school n cool. Saleh is new age n cool. I have personally experienced better attention with BOTH of these gentlemen than many others over the years. I do believe a lot of what people get out of interpersonal relationships can at times be a reflection of what they put in. I appreciate their professionalism and to the point approach. I am SUPER healthcare anxious and avoid it to my own detriment. Like, I get panic attacks in waiting rooms kinda thing. I didn't tell anyone at Dr. Chambers's office this, but it's like they knew. They were very kind and personable. It did take forever to be seen, but I hoped that was because the doctor took time with each patient (and it gave me time to chill out, so I didn't mind). I think I was right because he spent plenty of time with me: talking to me at first and then following up at the end in his office. He was efficient but I didn't feel rushed. He immediately prescribed medication I've needed for a year but other doctors have treated me weird for asking about -- I wasn't even planning on asking for it because of how others have treated me, but Dr. Chambers asked ME why I wasn't taking it and wrote a prescription right away. He also ordered bloodwork for something I was concerned about that other doctors have dismissed. I just felt listened to and supported the whole time, and never treated like I was just "supposed to know" how to do things at a doctor's office. I have never left a doctors office feeling more insulted or belittled as a human being. I came in for a follow up with Dr. Chambers after being prescribed a new medication. He didn't even take the time to get to know me and essentially questioned my knowledge on my own health history. He then went on to tell me that I needed "a lot more help than just medications". He was no help at all, neglected the purpose of my follow up appointment, and showed little to no interest in me as a patient of his. He is a poor example of a doctor, with horrible bed side manner, and beyond disrespectful and inappropriate with his remarks to his patients. I will not be going back to see him and do not recommend him to anyone who wants a doctor who is invested in his patients and their well being. read more

I had a medical form I needed signed while I was there for a visit for my kid's school and he refused to sign it stating that they werent his patients. The thing is as the parent, I'm in charge of their medical decisions so he doesn't need to see them as a patient. Anyway, disappointing. Unfortunately, in order to change doctor's minds about complying with the new laws regarding AB2109, leaving a neg review is the only re-course up parents have. Hopefully we can pressure them into signing the forms the same way Big Pharma pressured the state senate and assembly to approve this bill. The author of the bill even testified before the commitee that getting the forms signed woulf not be a problem even though independent research showed that a majority of doctors would refuse to sign the forms. I was SHOCKED to see these bad reviews on here. I actually had an incredible experience with Dr. Chambers and this is coming from someone who has not seen a regular "western medicine" doc for over 3 years, I am more about the eastern side of things, however, what was great about this doctor is that he practices BOTH sides of medicine. I needed to have a physical done and EKG and this was the doctor that was recommended. I also found it fascinating that he is a third-generation doc and had pics of his father and grandfather on the wall in his office. He even spent extra time with me giving me additional resources we can use at our wellness spa for our own clients. Amazing and Personable Doctor! I have mixed feelings about writing a review about a doctor because I don't want his office to start getting super busy, but he deserves for people to know how great he is and I'm an avid user of yelp to help find different things, so I wanted to give him a great review. I just moved here from Florida and was afraid to find a primary care under HMO since you have to choose before you go. I had chosen one doctor in Mission Valley in another Medical Group, and of course, she just didn't have the feel of the small town doctor that I was looking for. I've been with the same Primary Care Physician for 9 years before moving to California and the reason for that is because she treated me like part of her family. It was a very personal relationship, which was very important to me. I don't like to feel like I'm simply a number. First, I literally had to wait 10 minutes before going back to the waiting room, and once there, he came right in... I was SHOCKED! I actually made a joke that that had NEVER happened. He lauged and pretended to walk back out of the door. Great personality. Dr. Chambers was professional, but warm and really concerned with getting to know me and my health. I couldn't believe I only had to change my doctor once before finding the right provider! He is GREAT and so is everyone else in the office! Very very friendly and accommodating. I had the worst experience yesterday.... I came in for a cough\cold that I've had for over a month... the doctor came in and took my temperature and looked at my throat.. then said I had a viral infection and it would go away with out any medication.. I asked her if she thought it was wierd that I've been sick since the last time I went in which was April 14th. She just kept saying that this is a viral infection.... so I asked for my money back because they did nothing that I couldn't do at home. They did not check my breathing patterns no x Ray's literally nothing other then taking my temp and looking at my throat.. I then asked for my xrays of my chest from the last time I went in and they said to come back tomorrow we dont want to have to pay anyone for overtime.. THIS PLACE DOESNT CARE ABOUT YOUR HEALTH!!!. Dr. Chambers has taken fantastic care of my entire family since we moved to Point Loma over 4 years ago. He always takes the time to listen to all my concerns, no matter how menial, and addresses each of them fully before ending the visit. Dr. Chambers is the best doctor I've ever had, and my sister and I continue going to him even after moving into the downtown area. This is the practice to visit if you are out of town and have a time sensitive issue that requires immediate medical professional attention. The staff and doctor(s) were/are very accommodating to my short notice (3 different occasions) request to be seen and processed on the same day mind you,, for additional medical requirements from the Coast Guard and the Military Sealift Command to get me current on my certifications in order to sail (what I currently do for a living). On my 2nd visit I actually flew in from Seattle on a Friday for an appointment on Monday, I called them on Friday to see what I might need to do before the Monday appointment and they took me in few hours later that same day. Mind you they did not know and I did not tell them that I flew in from Seattle just to get this done. They are very familiar with a variety of medical forms to include all insurance, the Coast Guard and the Military Sealift Command. So why do I not find someone up in Seattle? When you've been through one of these visits with this team ( I know overused term!) well why look for a clone!! read more

Dr. Chambers and Dr. Saleh are the first physicians since moving to SD that I have felt take the time to get to know their patients and are concerned for their well being. Both doctors, as well as their staff, show professionalism and ethical conduct that seems to be becoming rare in the field of medicine. Came here for a drug test. they promised results in 3-10 days. It took almost three weeks before I got an answer. It was also more expensive than several other places in town, They did not foll0w proper SAMHSA testing procedures and I ended up having to have it done over elsewhere. A place in mission valley got it done in 5 days for $65. Almost half the cost and less than a third of the wait. read more

Picked Dr. Chambers based on proximity to my home and his participation in my insurance plan. Really nice guy. Gave me an article to read about the hazards of consuming red meat and also offered me a cup of carrots while I was waiting on lab results. He also took my family history into account when making a diagnosis. He's great about supporting the local Point Loma pharmacy over CVS. I have been a patient of Dr. Chambers for over ten years. I have gone to other doctors through out the years if needed or if insurance demanded. I always find myself back at Dr. Chambers office. He is an amazing doctor, I've always had better them ordinary service from him and his entire office which makes them extraordinary. He is thorough and spot on with his diagnosis. EXTREME CAUTION when considering this doctor. Dr. Chambers was one of the worst general practitioners I have worked with. He was rude, patronizing, pedantic, and dismissive. He refused to listen to my description of what was ailing me, and then prescribed a drug that caused me to have severe and near-constant suicidal thoughts. I tried to follow up multiple times to get in touch, but his staff never connected me. And then after all that, I get a bill months later saying they don't actually take my insurance (which they said they verified the day I saw Chambers, saying I only had a $15 copay). I first met Dr. Chambers over six years ago, on my first visit he was charming and caring. He then proceeded to sell me his book on heart disease. After that first visit, I never saw the man again. He pushed me off on his Womens' Nurse Assistant. It was fine, since I only needed cholestrol meds. I recently went to ask for a check on my cholestrol and also a a thyroid check. Again, was pushed onto the new Nurse Assistant. After, my calling to find out my results.....which I was told the Nurse would call me.....she believed my results were a lab error, after she showed the report to Dr. Chambers. I came in and was charged for a new blood draw!! Citing that they believed their lab was in error! Dr. Chambers made an appointment for me with a specialist....I could not make the appointment and tried to call the specialist office, after continual ringing, no one answered the phone. I then called Dr. Chambers to request my lab report and was going to find my own specialist. He proceeds to lecture me on not making my appointment, and then progresses to scream at me on the phone, and when I again tried to talk, he hung up on me!!! I am a sixty-three year old woman, I never requested any special service or had ever bothered Dr.Chambers for over five years. I could not believe the lack of professionalism and his condescending behavior, I have never experienced this in my entire life with a doctor. I was also lectured by Dr. Chambers for showing up for my second blood draw, for not making an appointment. I called that very morning and was told to come in, it would not require much time. This doctor has serious abusive behavior, he runs hot and cold. Also, was never pushed to buy a doctor's book! He has some major ego problems. BEWARE!!!!! We live in N.Cal, Our family , or most of them in So. cal. our daughter and son in law got us an appointment with Ned . we've been to Doctors where we live and they just gave you the normal run around. My wife was having problems walking , and no energy , wasn't her normal self . He is laid back and not very personable but I am a guy so I do not expect that. I do feel kind of rushed thru my appointments and wish he would be more attentive but he is adequate. I've been to see Dr. Chambers many times over the years. Last time I went in, my heart rate was over the top! Driving a 911, through morning traffic while sipping an espresso didn't help the matter. The nurse told me to relax, turned the light off and came back 20 minutes later & I was good to go. Results are quick (USCG Physical & Drug Test) and reliable. This guy is no good. He is not the worst (hence two stars.) His office is a dump. I went to see him for a car wreck injury. Dr. Chambers was not in the first visit. His fill-in was horrible. This guy asked asinine questions like what color was the car. I understand this to some degree but the number of questions like this vastly outnumbered the questions about my symptoms. I had x-rays taken and the lady was a trainee and didn't have a clue. She was nice, but not what you want to experience when you are in pain and want to get off the table asap. The fill in doctor spent hardly any more time with me and pushed some ridiculously expensive medicine on me that was repackaged over the counter NSAID. He also put me on a dangerously high dosage of medication. Because of this experience I decided I would not be returning here for my treatment. I stopped by the following day to retrieve my x-rays and Dr. Chambers pulled me aside. He basically begged me to be treated by him. He was very pushy and assured me that I would be taken care of. I have seen him for a few follow ups and he does not listen to me at all. I know my way around medicine and he lied directly to my face multiple time during our consultation. This guy wants injury cases as he sees them a cash cows. I would avoid him as he is more interested in being paid than helping you. He might be okay for the common cold, but I wouldn't trust him with a personal injury case. read more
