This may be lengthy but if I can save just one person from going here then I have done my job. So my gripe with this lady actually began nearly 1 month ago when I went to drop off my black leather boots. She told me she'd do a perfect amazing job and charged me $70 which I thought was overpriced AF but I was willing to make the investment as my boots are genuine leather etc. She told me it will take a week. COOL that's fine. A week goes by and its radio silent. 2 weeks go by. Still quiet. Then I make the mistake of reading the reviews where it said she doesn't answer the phone. I call this place no joke 45 times, not one answer. So now I have to take time out of my day to pass by TO SEE if theyre ready. So I go and OFC they're not ready. I demand my shoes back because now she has pissed me off. However, she is kinda apologetic and she promises it will be ready by Sunday and if not Sunday DEFF by Monday. I tell her I get out of work late and by the time I get to her it will be around 6:30 PM Monday. She says I'm here til 11 PM every day no problem! She takes down my number. Sunday rolls around and OFC she does not keep her word. No call. Monday comes around , nothing. So I drive by on monday and the establishment is CLOSED! CUTE! Tuesday no word. I now have to take time out of my day to physically pass by and see if they are ready as if I don't have a job and other responsibilities. Now Wednesday is when s*** hits the fan. I pass by wednesday and she says to me "black boots right?" Great, it seems as if she knows what she's talking about and I anticipate everything going smoothly. She proceeds to hand me a plastic bag with a size 8.5 black boot that are very obviously not mine and the brand is ZARA. (I am a size 7 and no shade why would I bring ZARA boots to the shoe repair?). I kindly tell her that these are not my shoes. Bc theyre very obviously not. Instead of saying let me look into this or having any sort of normal reaction she begins SCREAMING at me. Like actually raising her voice, fingers in my face saying things along the lines of these are the only black boots i have in the store, these are YOUR shoes, this is not my problem, you are a liar etc. I tell her to lower her voice and request that we speak like adults. I soon find out she is incapable of this request. I tell her I am not paying for shoes that are not mine and this really sets her off. She then tries to tell me that I am a thief, cheap, this was my master plan all along, tries to make it about her having an accent (?) and that God is always watching and to give the money I'm stealing from her to a homeless man (??) and tells me to take my shoes and leave. After screaming at each other back and forth for nearly 10 mins while customers are onlooking, She is successful in gaslighting me bc I actually leave with the shoes. However, I quickly turn around and return to the store because these are simply not my shoes. This time, I try a new approach because at the end of the day I just want my shoes. I say look I am not trying to fight but where are my shoes? These shoes are 2 sizes too big and I just don't have any use for them? Since she has no emotional regulation , she begins screaming at me again saying that this is NOT her problem and demands that I leave. At this point I am so beyond annoyed and frustrated. I call my dad bc I simply never been in a situation like this before and he can hear her screaming at me through the phone and is even like WTF. So I said MISS THIS IS YOUR PROBLEM. And called the police which I truthfully really did not want to do but I had no choice. I began describing her features to the operator on the line.and they said police will be dispatched. She then collects her sharp items (?) a goes to get a coffee (?????) Odd. She returns though, and I have now been waiting outside her store for 20 mins waiting for police arrival.Mind you I have somewhere to be in an hour. As I am waiting, she VERY politely invites me inside. I knew something was fishy. She then says she "does not want to argue with me" and she "wants to talk like adults"- the very same line I used on her 45 mins ago! She hands me a pen and paper and asks me to describe my boots in great detail (?). While I am doing her assignment because again I just want my shoes, she opens a curtain to reveal MY SHOES. I have to admit I didn't even stop and check, my mom, the math teacher for elementary kids is turning in her grave. Than she wanted me to be back another day to actually get the money. So she Wasnt going to pay me today. She is probably mot the owner even though she claimed her name was Natalie (notice the name of the business). So when I pointed and asked if Nat is short for Natalie she said "you tell me". I'm counting the great attitude. So we made an appointment in few days to take the payment. Then I stepped out to realize my math. Bottom line, dear neighbored, go to Benjamin's in Forest Hills instead. I've done serious job with him before including re-lining of a leather jacket that came back perfect! And I never had this blazer come back stained except behind the brass buttons that you barely notice. I came back a week later as agreed, only to find out the only one there was the tailor, Natalie demanded he'll be present. The poor guy, his English is more broken than my Spanish (and I barely know few words). I asked him to call the boss and guess whose face appeared in the screen. The moment she saw me on her screen, she hanged up. There was an envelope with $100 cash and my blazer awaiting for me. Since there was no one of authority to talk to, I took my money, my blazer and left. So it seems she is the boss and she could give me the cash last week, but rather she had to make me stop-by the following week. Games ppl play. I leave close by and that's my way home so no buggy. While I was waiting, there were two ladies who waited to pick up a coat the "tailor" couldn't find. While he was looking, one of the told me they had an issue with them before as the left a sweater in the pst only to revive it back as stinky from sweat as they left it. I've been on the search for a decent light spring jacket, but haven't had any luck. I have two brand new Eddie Bauer Quilt Field Jackets from two years ago that I haven't worn because of the extra weight I've put on. Fast forward to 2020 since losing 60+ lbs I decided to try on the jackets to see if they fit. Much to my surprise the jackets are now too big. I didn't want to waste anymore money looking for a jacket that will end up being returned once again. I told myself why not get the jackets tailored since they're the perfect material and length. It's been a very long time since I've had something altered, but recently after losing weight I decided to have my spring jackets taken in. I walked by and noticed that May Cleaners was open even with the current global pandemic going on. I was stopped by a green tape blocking anyone from entering or leaving the business. It took a while before someone greeted me. A woman finally approached me at the door and asked me what I wanted. I told her I needed my jackets altered. She asked me to step in and told me where to place my bags. She only wanted me to try on one jacket and placed markers on the side seams of the jacket as well as the sleeves. I found it strange that she didn't want me to try on the second jacket. She told me if it's the same jacket it's fine. Hopefully they both turn out to my liking. She first quoted me $15 per jacket that needed to be taken in. Then she said it's $5 Extra to adjust the sleeves. $40 later I'm happy that I did t have to buy a new jacket. I ended up getting what I really wanted for the price of one. Update 5/27/20: Upon picking up my jackets I am throughly pleased with the alterations. They fit perfectly and I also have room if I wanted to layer up with a thin shirt or sweater. The jackets do not look like they were altered in any way. May, the tailor did a wonderful job with stitching, cinching the waist, and tapering the arms.
