I had a look around the store and they have a huge selection of silver and gold jewelly, lots of items half price. We chatted a bit while the watchmaker gave my watch a quick polish. How would you feel if you couldn't see half the shop? Grab a bite to eat and a drink? How would you feel if that was your child? Simon also collects pieces from India where he goes once a year, they are all old and tarnished and have a bit of history behind them, he called them tribal pieces, very cool. My issue was not with the jewelry itself but with the two young female attendants that I asked for assistance. I was very obviously American and a tourist since I told them I was from California. I told them I was looking for 14k jewelry pieces, but they told me that they only carried up to 10k. They then proceeded to speak to each other in front of me that I "must be looking for gaudy jewelry." I can say for a fact that nothing I was wearing was showy, bright, or tacky, so I deduced that I was instantly being pigeonholed into the "American tourist" stereotype. I left and went to R&C McCormack instead, where the customer service and jewelry were much better.
