There's always somebody more urgent than you so my scheduled procedure was almost 3 hours after it was originally scheduled. I have aortic stenosis and was told I'm high risk, so clear communication and informed consent were critical. My pre-admission appointment was February 4, 2026 at 11:30 AM. During pre-admission, I was presented with a disclosure form allowing a student/fellow/resident to perform the surgery. I declined to sign and clearly told staff I did not consent to a fellow/resident performing my procedure. On the day of surgery, while I was being prepared, I was told by Dr. Adham Saad that because TGH is a training hospital, a fellow would be doing the surgery. Dr. Saad said he would be scrubbed in the room "next to the fellow," but he would not be the one performing the operation--only supervising. For a high-risk cardiac patient, that is not calming or reassuring. It felt like a coercive ultimatum: accept a trainee as the primary surgeon or lose your surgery. When I refused again, I was told the surgery would be canceled and that I'd need to find a private doctor/hospital if I wanted only the attending surgeon to perform the operation. If Dr. Saad is already going to be scrubbed in and present, it is unacceptable to pressure a patient--especially a high-risk patient--into a surgery they did not consent to, then cancel at the last minute when they stand their ground. Regardless of being a teaching hospital, patients still have the right to informed consent. This should have been clearly addressed long before surgery day, not when the patient is already prepped and vulnerable. This process caused unnecessary delay, stress, and disruption to my care.

So disappointing…read more Moved to FL and found myself dealing with an old shoulder issue. I was in sooo much pain. Went in person on a Monday and asked about next available appointment. The woman at the desk truly seemed to take pleasure in saying it would be months before I could be seen. Honestly, I've never thought that about any medical office but she was sneering and laughing. I told her I'd been in 10/10 psin since Friday night. I'm not a drug seeker ( or I would have gone to an ER). I wanted a consult and possibly a guided steroid shot to stop the pain. Major mean girl vibes. How about offering to have a doctor call me? A nurse? I told her I had no ortho in FL and this issue had been dormant for years. Edited for typos

He usually spent only a few minutes with me, which I found disappointing for the cost. At my last visit, I arrived before another patient, but he chose to see her first. When it was finally my turn, he spent less than five minutes -- just a quick neck adjustment -- and then left. I was left lying there for about 30 minutes without him checking on me, until I finally got up and left on my own after being in his office for exact an hour. On top of that, when I felt I didn't receive proper treatment, I called and asked for either a reimbursement or another therapy session at no charge since he hadn't done his job. I made sure the receptionist understood that I wasn't going to pay, and she said, "Okay, hold on, let me check with him." When she came back, she told me I could come on a specific date. After driving 35 minutes to the office, she then told me I had to pay $95. I reminded her this was supposed to be a follow-up for the treatment I never received, but she insisted she had never confirmed I wouldn't be charged. Such a disappointing and unprofessional experience -- both with Dr. Lao and his receptionist. For the high prices they charge and the lack of care provided, I cannot recommend this practice to anyone.

I told him I didn't find it funny but everybody's different. 5 mins in the room and the housekeeping employee gets a personal phone call in the bathroom. When it occurred to me that this call was going to last awhile and I was missing a movie I was watching on TV, I ask him to leave. It would be different if he could scrub something and talk at the same time but nada. I'm never asked about nor am I supplied with more than 1 gown. No 'welcome kit'.. meaning no soap to wash with, no wash bin.. its' no biggie as I do have access to soap on the wall and a sink but still... last night, I had my light on to ask for washclothes. I get an angry nurse who was due to go home and I wasn't her patient. Ok, well, that's not my fault but i did apologize. I didn't make her answer the light. Med staff ask about pain... I tell them but I can't get a med until 9pm so I use ice packs to numb body parts all day. Some staff get upset that ice melts. Again, not my problem. Pharmacy refuses to change their opinion of a 9pm med pass (no one knows where that time was birthed); I'm thinking staff needs to take out their frustration on them, not me. I have been very vocal about my fear of needles and my Tourette's of obscenities when I am stuck without a numbing cream. No one believes me and are then shocked to discover I wasn't lying. Nurse wants to stick a needle in my dorsum without lidocaine first? You better get somebody to hold me down. I don't understand why people think I lie. I had the same issue with a nurse in the OR once about 10 years ago. Boy, she was pissed! She got another nurse who used a numbing agent. About 30 years ago while im the military, i had to have an ovarian cyst removed. I'm very upset, my husband explains to the med staff that I don't care about anything but that needle. Took 3 people to hold me down but it worked! Anyway, back to the present, interesting lung doc comes in. Asks me repetitive questions. Staff has to do that to catch you in a lie although that theory doesn't work when I tell them about my needle fear, low pain tolerance and screaming obscenities. So after the repetition, I am questioned about my marital status and if I have given birth to children. I have no idea what these questions have to do with my lungs. Yeah, I told another lung doctor who laughed and said she wasn't around to monitor him. Again, I fail to see the humor. I love South Park, Nate Bargatze, Jamie Foxx, Fortune Feimster... So yeah, I have a good sense of humor but it stops at this miserable excuse of a hospital. Here's an update. Apparently, items like soap are listed on an a-la- cart menu! So nice to tell patients on Day 4... I have an idea! How's about providing said list during admission? Just a thought! The list should probably have gowns, towels and washcloths too. Sonja, I'm in rm 5019. Ill save you calories & tell you not to waste your time coming up here with your fake apologizes. Actions speak louder than words. If you think I'm paying for items on this here menu that I did not order, you are mistaken. And my expectations are based on common sense and working in healthcare myself.

Four towels, 3 washcloths, a TV remote, ice & a few other things. I got them! I have a low pain threshold & a fear of needles. As always, they didn't believe me. I politely ask for another person to hold me in place. That tried a couple of times. Once the IV came out and the nurse practitioner told the surgeon I pulled it out. How ridiculous! They ended up doing the needle with use of an ultrasound. So much easier. The nurse who performed it said that she had an irrational fear of a certain reptile. She couldn't explain why but there it was. It is so frustrating. Bhanuprasad Patel, M.D. reminded me of those docs who does rounds to pts' rooms. He would check & charge for that 5 mins he spends. My issue with him was that he would say I had to do X to get discharged & the unit nurse said if I did Y, I could get discharged. At the last check & charge, I told Dr. Patel the nurse said I needed to do 'Y' to get discharged; I just wanted to know was it Y or X? He said he would check with the nurse & get back with me. Dr. Patel leaves the room to 'charge'; I stay awake waiting on his return. I'm STILL waiting. I ask the nurse if he was one of those docs who did a check and charge. The nurse stated that he was awesome. No, I disagree. If you say you are going to get me an answer & you'll be back to check & charge, do it! After surgery, it hurt to move especially in bed. Food would arrive and who is going to set the tray up... like just move a little to the left so I can reach it. Please? I can't sleep and really, who can in a hospital? Anyway, once I'm asleep, I'm woke up with an 'adjust your eyes' at 4 AM to get lab work. What work do I need to do to adjust when I've just been woke up by a voice and the lights are turned on. It took awhile for the call light to be answered but you know how that goes. I was high-functioning after a few days but still... one assistant per FIVE pts ain't that busy. The call light would be 'answered' at the nurse's station, I'd state my need and get an 'okay, I'll let them know. Right. The problem for THEM is that my light would remain on until somebody physically came into the room to reset it. You can guess how long that took.
