Dr Halim took my healthcare concerns seriously (even though I am on the younger side) and he made sure I received the proper healthcare I deserved. I'm going through some serious health issues between my back and kidney stones. My life is not the same as I'm dealing with constant pain, and yet my doctor can't seem to find the time to see me. The PA is not supposed to be my primary care physician--Dr. Halim is. She is not personally familiar with my medical history or my previous conversations with him. Dr. Halim initially diagnosed my back issues as a muscle tear. He ordered an X-ray, but when I came in to review the results, I was assigned to his PA, whose diagnosis was different. They ordered a CT scan, and when I returned to review that, I was yet again assigned to the PA. Then they ordered an MRI. I had the MRI done on a Friday. After another weekend of dealing with the pain, I called Monday to make an appointment to review the MRI. I thought I was being completely reasonable in requesting to see my actual doctor this time. I hadn't been able to talk to or see him since the X-ray or CT scan, and I wanted to discuss the results of all three tests with him. This is a big deal--not only the three large kidney stones, but also the other unrelated pain I've been experiencing. It has been horrible. When I called, I specifically told the receptionist that I needed to see Dr. Halim rather than his PA. I was told, "I can't guarantee that you will see him." I explained that I was in a lot of pain and had been jumping through all these hoops and taking all these tests without ever being able to see my doctor. The receptionist put me on hold for several minutes, apparently to speak with Dr. Halim. She came back and told me, "Yes, Dr. Halim will see you Friday at 10 AM." I made the appointment and double-confirmed before ending the call: "So, you're telling me that if I come in Friday at 10, I will for certain be able to see my doctor this time?" She said yes. I showed up Friday morning. The front desk confirmed that I had a 10 o'clock appointment with Dr. Halim. The other staff member brought me back, checked my blood pressure and told me, "Doctor Halim will be right in." He never came in. I never got to review my X-ray, CT scan or MRI with him. Having Dr. Halim as my physician, I would have thought it was a good thing to have a doctor with decades of experience. He had sold me on how knowledgeable he was about back issues, especially since he has had three back surgeries himself. But what good does all that experience and knowledge do for me when I can never get to see or speak with him? I had waited four days for that Friday 10 AM appointment after my MRI results came back. This appointment was extremely inconvenient because I'm also my mom's caregiver. She can't drive, and she had her own specialist appointment that Friday morning that she had been waiting a month for. I couldn't take her because I needed to see Dr. Halim during the only appointment he had available for me that week. My sister had to take time off work to take my mom to her specialist so I could make it to Dr. Halim's appointment. I rearranged all of that because I was specifically promised I would finally get to see my doctor. Instead, I showed up and was blown off yet again. I can't imagine what else it could be other than Dr. Halim simply being stretched too thin and too busy with too many patients. It can't be something personal. I've been a good patient and have always been on time and friendly with him and his staff. They laugh at my silly jokes, and I've even brought bags of candy for the doctor and staff to show my appreciation. Everything had been great--right up until I was promised four times (twice on the phone and twice in person) that I would see my doctor, and it didn't happen. This isn't just about my schedule. I'm dealing with daily pain, and my family had to rearrange their schedules so I could make that specific Friday 10 AM appointment. After waiting a week for the MRI, I was desperate to get the results and discuss the X-ray, CT scan and MRI with Dr. Halim. It would have been worth my sister taking time off work to take my mom to her appointment if it finally meant I could see my doctor and review everything. Instead, I felt like a real sucker for rearranging everything after being promised I could see my doctor that day. It was never like this before. Dr. Halim must be too busy, with a backlog of patients and a poorly organized schedule, to see me after three consecutive appointments. But if he wasn't going to be available, I think the common courtesy would have been to call me and reschedule. I was PROMISED that if I rearranged my schedule for a third appointment, four days out, I would get to see my doctor. I was given one timeslot the entire week--Friday at 10 AM--to finally get to see my doctor. Can I just say, wow! Dr. Halim is one of a kind. I've been to this clinic a few times and I always leave feeling heard! I'm a 29 female trying to navigate my health and Dr. Halim sat there and listened to all my symptoms and asked plenty of questions. He never makes me feel like I'm making any symptoms up and I truly feel heard. I have a history of doctors sitting in a room with me for 3 minutes and shove pharmaceuticals in my face! No! Stay away from this office, especially if you have health coverage. They charged my insurance company over $1000 for a first time visit, then over $500 for a telehealth phone call, which was never scheduled. The Dr. called me to tell me my results. I would have had zero issue if they told me there would be a charge, which they did not. I work for a doctor and we would never charge an insurance company for discussing results with our patient. There office sends me a letter telling me to find care somewhere else, which I was planning on anyway, but how pathetic that there front office receptionist can't handle a patient calling there office out on a charge that's completely unacceptable and unethical. Dr. Halim is a very great primary care doctor. My grandmother has been under his care for a couple of years now and anytime she has needed a prescription refilled we can do so by simply calling the office. I have never had any issue communicating with the staff regarding making appointments or requesting services and every single time we have done we have been received with the best service. Wouldn't recommend Dr Halim or his office staff to my worst enemy! The worst office staff I've ever encountered! Anytime I ever had to have any prescriptions, paperwork, or referrals completed by any of thier staff I had to call at least 10 times! Weeks, months would go by before they were able to do thier job! When I finally got frustrated about their lack of submitting paperwork, prescriptions, address and pharmacy changes that I gave them in person and had to raise my voice because they weren't listening, the receptionist gave me attitude and hung up on me!!! The only person at that office that has any professional skills at all is his wife! Then Dr Halim calls me at the end of the day to say he's releasing us from his care because of "what I did"!!!!! Don't go to him,his office is rude and don't they know what follow through is! If I ask for a call back that always said they would try. I tried to address this with him once but he blew me off. His wife is the office manager and I didnt think she was the problem and did like him until now. I called because I got an inoculation and my whole arm is swollen. I had to find a place to go since his office does not give any inoculations I had to go to a clinic. I guess who ever answered the phone didn't like me mentioning that. To the few people who have given Dr Halim a one star, I don't know what you are expecting or thinking a Dr should do for you. dr Halim has been my Dr since I moved to San Diego 5 years ago. From day one he has taken care of all my needs. Everything!When I disagree with what he has to say concerning my meds, he either says please try to stay with it and if not I will change it, or he changes it on the spot to help me. To the people who say that he is rude, trust me... unless you did something seriously over the wall rude to him I can't image what you did wrong. I won't go into details but I have gone against his advice and caused more injury to myself(100 percent my fault) and all he did was sigh and say let get you back on the right track. He is also an addiction Dr and I have done some things I am not proud of. He gave me a very strict second chance. I am suffering from some sever symptom and he tried to help every way he can. I was in another specialist office and the Dr was amazing that Dr Halim ordered all the test he did and said your Dr must really care about you instead of shoving you off to another Dr. I have been seeing Drs since I was 19 for various problems on a normal basis. Out of maybe the 15-20 drs that I have worked with, I would place him in at least the top 5 if not the top 3! He is a rockstar and if you show him respect and don't come at him as aggressive as some of these reviews I can assure you, he is one of the best Dr in 14 years 8 I have ever had an it is an honor to be his patient and I do not state that lightly. Dr. Halim is the kind of person who should likely not be a doctor. He takes no pride in his examinations or treatment plans AND, do not visit him with Bipolar Depression. He believes he knows more about this topic than a patient with the disease. He boasts it is because he has so many Bipolars in his family, a fact HE volunteered, that I did NOT want to know. I only came to see him because of his reputation, looking for a new Medicare primary care doctor, and I had recently injured my hip. We did not discuss my hip for more than 3 minutes. He was belittling, name-calling, and victim blaming. In the middle of my history, he ended the visit, stood up, and told me I was never to return. AND, 6 weeks later, the practice charged ME for a comprehensive new patient visit. He purposely did not bill my MediCare for the visit, as that would have been fraud. He never performed a comprehensive visit, 99204. But he DID send me a bill for my Part B responsibility for the 99204 charges, $34. But only after writing off the MediCare portion of the over $300 bill. Is that even legal?? I would give no stars if I could. His office staff is like the Berlin Wall; nearly impossible to get through to the doctor that you really never want to see anyway. I'm a retired physician. And yes, this actually happened to me at his office. Shame on you Neil; you're a burnout. I just now received a call from Dr. Halim's legal department. He is suing me over this review. This suit will be considered harassment of a disabled patient. He says I still owe him $34, and for me to remove this review. I'll keep everyone posted! read more

This guy needs to have his license revoked. He truly is a joke of a "doctor". My mom has been coming to him for about a year and yesterday was her last appt with him. I requested a certain test for my mom since he had already misdiagnosed her before and he lost his marbles. He laughed in my face and to his medical assistant going "you hear this" I asked why he thought it was funny, when I was requesting the test bc her symptoms weren't getting better and we simply wanted to be safe then sorry. I shouldn't have said that bc he proceeded to inform me he was in his 50's and didn't need to take that "shit" and he stormed out of the room. Minutes later he came back in to let his assistant know (mind I'm standing in the room) that if my mom wanted to keep being treated, I was no longer welcomed and no longer allowed in his office. That's when he turns to me and goes "you're a bitch" "NEIL HALIM" ladies and gentlemen. All bc I requested a test for my mom. His assistant apologized on his behalf and told us that he was a good doctor but tended to loose his cool. The fact that this is normal to his assistant is concerning. After several days of severe vertigo, I finally followed my wife's advice to see my Family Dr. Neil Halim. His front office of competent, caring, friendly, and efficient health care professionals (a special thanks to Bes) were able to get me in the very same day! This is in spite of Dr. Halim's very busy schedule!! Dr. Halim not only immediately diagnosed my condition (Benign Paroxymal Positional Vertigo) based on listening to my wife and my description of the symptoms, but even more amazingly Dr. Halim was able to heal me during the same visit!!! Not sure about the Doctor but the office staff was awful. Wanted to make an appointment as a new patient but the office had to check my eligibility with Blue Cross. I was promised a phone call back but had to continue to call them for status updates. They kept making excuses about not being able to get through to Blue Cross. After 3 days of this I called another Doctor's office and had an appointment and eligibility confirmed in 5 minutes! What the heck? Dr. Halim and the entire staff at this office are incredible. I have been dealing with a fairly complicated medical condition for a long while and have been a patient of Dr. Halim for over 5 years. Because of Dr. Halims experience and genuine concern for my well being, I have been thriving and receiving the treatment I need which allows me to function and lead a normal life. His concern for me and incredible resolve in identifying my condition has allowed me to lead that healthier and more balanced life. If a patient has an emergency or something critical arises, the staff and Dr. Halim have always prioritized seeing me and all of their other patients by scheduling office visits as fast as even the same day! They truly care! It is however usually a busy schedule there because the office has loyal patients that can rely on his expertise and care. So always call in advance to set your appointment! When my wife or daughter have been sick with the flu or related illness, he treats my entire family with respect and care that goes above and beyond. We will be seeing only Dr. Halim as our primary for as long as he is practicing because he is an amazing doctor with huge expertise and genuine care for his patients. Went based off 2 Yelp reviews and because the office was close to home. Mistake. Had a tough time getting an annual physical scheduled - first time visit to the office. Was seen by a doctor filling in for him. She was exceptional. I went back months later with a severe cold, had a hard time getting an appt. again. Saw Dr. Halim and left with a neutral opinion. Week later, I was still pretty sick and called for a follow-up. After playing 20 questions with the office staff, they were supposed to call back and either have me come in to see the doc or call me and let me know if some antibiotics had been called in to the pharmacy for me. Never heard back from them and had to go to urgent care instead. Won't be returning. Cannot recommend. read more

I would highly recommend Dr. Neil Halim and his office staff. They are friendly, helpful and efficient. My HMO requires a referral to see an OB for a well-woman exam, and the office manager Lynn got that taken care of before I ever set foot in the office. Better yet, she got my insurance to approve a doctor in my neighborhood which was great because when I had called my insurance company the week before they told me the closest one in my network was more than 25 miles away from my house. The office is small and comfortable with a relaxed and healing atmosphere. The gal behind the desk and the one who took my weight and blood pressure are very easy going and pleasant, as is the doctor himself. He is also well-educated, well-spoken, professional, thorough and efficient. It was my first visit to establish him as a primary care physician but since I didn't have any current complaints he called it an annual check-up and saved me a copay which was a nice surprise.
