Dr. Tanna turns fear into hope. I was referred to Dr. Tanna by Dr. Palleschi for breast reconstruction options after deciding to move forward with a bilateral mastectomy. Within minutes of our first meeting, the doom and gloom that I had been feeling about surgery started to fade. The meeting was very positive. Dr. Tanna spent over an hour with my husband and I going over breast reconstruction options. The focus was on making sure I was able to look in the mirror after surgery and feel good in my skin. I was given multiple options and we went over the pros and cons of each option. I felt confident in Dr. Tanna's care. He is knowledgeable, thorough, and kind. I very quickly expressed interest in the 4 flap diep procedure, but Dr. Tanna did not want to rush me into a decision. The 4 flap diep was the more complex surgery, with more risk and a longer recovery time. When I decided to move forward with the surgery, Dr. Tanna called me on his cell phone while he was on vacation. He wanted to make sure that I understood the surgery I opted to undergo was major, but he also reassured me that he would never suggest a surgery that he didn't feel was safe. I had to get multiple MRIs before being cleared for surgery. After each MRI, Dr. Tanna called me with an update. By the time we got to surgery I felt like Dr. Tanna (and his team, especially Emily) was my friend. I received the same level of care from Dr. Tanna and his team post surgery. I had weekly checkups and was in constant communication with his team during my recovery. I had a question on Memorial Day and I was concerned I wouldn't be able to reach anyone - Dr. Tanna's team responded right away. To say I am happy with the results is an understatement. I look great and I feel great. My body and confidence has been restored. I would recommend Dr. Tanna without hesitation to anyone. He made a difficult situation easier for me and my family. It was early February of 2025, when I received my mammography results stating, I had new calcifications in my left breast, prompting a stereotactic biopsy. Hyperplastic cells were noted and, in my heart, my intuition was telling me through my workup that a mass was present although not seen on imaging, as my mammography was more painful than usual. In light of my family history of having a mother diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma at the age of 38, I always knew there may be a potential I may face a diagnosis of breast cancer. Through the years, and many biopsies, with this pathology, I made the decision to undergo a bilateral mastectomy with DIEP flap reconstruction. The intraoperative pathology revealing ductal hyperplasia with a mass found to be positive for lobular carcinoma insitu (which was not seen on imaging preoperatively). Although benign, could have led to a different outcome had I waited. The minute I received the pathology results from my biopsy, I knew I needed a plastic surgeon who specialized in breast reconstruction as well as a breast surgeon. Knowing what I know as a healthcare professional, I wanted someone who was compassionate, kind and an expert in their field. Dr. Neil Tanna was highly recommended through a good friend. Needless to say, I called his office to seek out a breast surgeon whom he preferred to work with, concomitantly. His office staff was extremely kind in taking a message. Later that evening around 8 pm, he responded not only with a surgeon recommendation, but an appointment for a consultation and furthermore an appointment with the surgeon. This spoke volumes to me as this showed his dedication, compassion and kindness for his patients. He went above and beyond to go through this extreme with his true professionalism without ever meeting me. During my first office visit, he listened, went over all my options with empathy, kindness and respect while instilling a level of confidence in my decision to undergo a mastectomy. He has a dedicated office staff and team of healthcare providers who took care of me preop and post operatively that was astounding. Emily and Kelly are his physician associates on staff who helped guide me through this process, were amazing while, offering the support I needed during this time, and caring for my wounds. Nervously, I knew from the moment I entered Glen Cove Hospital I was in amazing hands. The nursing care I received during my time there was impeccable, compassionate and truly amazing. Post procedure I was followed closely, given periodic phone calls by Dr. Neil Tanna to check in and always felt taken care of. I couldn't be more thankful and proud of Dr. Tanna and his team.
