    2 egg breakfast with bacon
    Carolyn M.

A basic breakfast place with decent food and a homey feel. Nothing special, but still good. I had the two eggs breakfast with bacon.

Excellent Ukrainian and traditional breakfast. The service was good and the food came out quickly. The coffee was even pretty good.

Nellie's is a good spot for efficient breakfast. The diner is low-key, and has a homey feel, but nothing is overly fancy.

But our hunger got the best of us, so we ended up stopping in town for lunch across the street from Element Cafe. Our next mission was to get caffeine and a little something sweet to finish off lunch. Element Cafe achieved both of these goals. I ordered an Americano and it did the trick. But I really enjoyed the Birthday Cake cookie. The cookies caught my eye because they looked a lot like the mountains we were about to see in Banff: they had many ridges and depth to them. The guy working in here even offered to heat them up for us before I could ask, so he really understood the keys to our heart. My only piece of feedback would be: when you heat the cookies up, don't be shy! Push that dough to the limit and let your cookies be enjoyed the way God intended: like they just came out of the oven. With that being said, the guy was the picture of a nice Canadian. Don't let his slightly under heating on this day shape how you view him as a fellow human. He was great, as were his cookies and his coffees.

This time around I tried something they offer by reservation called afternoon tea for $40. We each got to pick a tea for our tea pot and had about 8 options. The tea itself wasn't anything special. We tried the chai and the alforno blend which both didn't taste very strong. The afternoon tea deal also came with a snack tower, the bottom consisting of savory sandwich bites, and the top two levels with pastries and sweets. The things that stood out to me were the lemon meringue, fruit tart, and the carrot cake (the cream cheese frosting was really tasty). Overall, this was a super cute and fun thing to try. I'd definitely recommend it if you want to try little bites of various things they carry.

Lemon tart - tart was good, nice crunch to it, lemon was tangy and sweet - just the right combinations of flavours. So why just three stars - well the drink was a let down for me, matcha was not coming through - ended up tasting more like a cup of sweetened oat milk. I'd come back to explore there other pastries, or try there brunch - but that would need to wait until I visit Calgary again.

EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED!!…read more Disappointing first experience. I ordered three bags of espresso but received only two. Although all three items were marked as shipped on the packing slip, the La Laguneta espresso was missing from the shipment. I contacted the business on August 21, the day my order arrived, and followed up four times--three emails and one phone message. By August 29, I still had not received a response or any resolution. Mistakes can happen, but the lack of communication and accountability was extremely frustrating. I specifically ordered three different varieties because this was my first purchase and I wanted to try each one before deciding whether to order again. I had hoped to support a local business, but this experience has made me question whether future orders would be handled reliably. I am giving the business only a couple more business days to ship the missing bag or refund the charge for the product I did not receive. If the issue is not resolved within that time, I will dispute the charge for the unfulfilled portion of the order with my credit card company. An incomplete order should have been a simple matter to correct, but the lack of response has made it unnecessarily difficult.

Beautifully redesigned interior and lots of outdoor seating and the great architecture of the old building make this a great space to hang outside, weather permitting, and on my visits that's just what we did. The espresso drinks are spot on and if like myself you favor milks from non-lactating plants, they do a wicked oat milk flat white or latte. The black coffees are also excellent and I stayed long enough that my cup got refilled more times than I could recall. On my first visit I neglected to bring a mask, and they were kind and happy to provide one free of charge. Appreciated. Great spot to work as well which I did on a couple of days. Out of the 7-8 places I tried for espresso drinks on my visit I'd rate this as second best, but with hands down the best vibe for enjoying time with friends and family. Highly recommended.
