They were pretty slow coming out to install, but with some pushing and having to keep contacting them they came out and got it installed. The installation itself was fast and they were very nice. I recently had a solar system installed at my house working with GRNE Nelnet. The sales person (Ryan Suchsland) was fairly okay given he was responsive and didn't employ high pressure tactics as typical with other solar sales people. The installation on the other hand has been super frustrating. The project manager for my site (Sam Evans) has been very dismissive of several issues I've encountered and overly defensive. He barely reads the email messages with a goal to understand but too quick to be dismissive. One of the issues I repeatedly raised eventually got fixed by one of Nelnet electricians that came to my house for a different reason. The electrician was patient enough to listen, acknowledged the issue and resolved the issue. Sam for whatever reason refuses to acknowledge that there is an issue and would rather argue to the ends. This has left a bad taste in my mouth and I wouldn't be recommending working with Sam Evans if you have to work with Nelnet. If you value your time, look elsewhere as I was forced to micromanage the process almost every step of the way. Now I'm probably still going to have to continue micromanaging this process to ensure the SREC paperwork is filed correctly as some other reviewers indicate the potential for mismanagement there. I certainly wouldn't trust that Sam would do a mistake free job on mine. The reason I have not given this review a one star is because there are some other decent people in the company that have done their jobs well, alas a few bad eggs have ruined my experience overall. We installed our solar panels last year and were told that the SREC credit would kick in in Sep of the previous year. It did not. Then they pushed into Nov and then May. Now GRNE was bought by Nelnet, and nobody (including the four agents we contacted, our local groupbuy representative, and the CEO of GRNE) has provided any updates. Everyone just disappeared after saying that they've received our message. We are not happy and are considering legal actions if the circumstance continues. read more

Nelnet has not kept their word whatsoever, and it feels like we have been lied to and scammed. Would never recommend. To get my money, they said they were looking at 90-120 days to install at time of agreement. This was a huge lie as all they have done is change dates and give me the runaround- now we have no idea and they say a year or more and won't commit to any date at all. Additionally make ridiculous demands on payment - requiring the vast majority of payment to them for everything before they have done ANYTHING. They also force you to get their permission to take off the panels that you OWN. I willl absolutely be contacting our utilities board as this company has done nothing but scam us. read more

I have had a solar system installed by Nelnet for several months now. I could not be happier with the whole process and system. Our sales rep (Andy Seay) was outstanding. He was professional, gave us a detailed and informative quote, answered all of our questions, and was patient while we did our research. The install team was also exceptional. We always knew where we were in the process, were kept updated, and also answered any and all questions. The installers also worked efficiently and did a great job of cleaning up when they were finished. Finally, the price was extremely competitive. read more

We had our system installed in August 2020 and had no problems at all. A few weeks ago, they said they had detected a problem with our system. A service tech ran a test and said we had a bad panel that would be replaced under warranty. The service manager called and said he had to take a picture of the faulty panel but never showed up to take it. Now they are unreachable. No one answers their phones and they never call back after leaving a message. I don't know what happened to this company but they've gone from great to terrible. I would suggest not using them. read more

I have searched and got quoted from quite a few places. GRNE solar has a seemless pipeline from the quote, application, interconnect, permits, installation through completion. And the customer service was top notch!! I am very happy with my project and I have been enjoying $0 electric bill since Feb this year even with my EV. Highly recommended!! read more

GRNE has over-promised and under-delivered. 1. I am nearing the one-year mark since they installed my solar system, and my electricity production is on track to be about 60% of what they said it would be. That's a HUGE difference, not something where they can blame the weather or other variables. This means I am still paying partial electric bills when they told me the system would be producing enough so that my ComEd bill would be essentially zero for the year. This also means that I will need many more years than they quoted me to earn back the cost I paid up front for the system. 2. When they explained the initial cost and the rebates from the state and federal programs, they did not tell me that the rebate through the state was going to be considered taxable income. I only found this out the following January when they called me and said they needed my social security number to send me a 1099, and that I would be paying taxes on my rebate from the state. So effectively the money I received back from the state was much less than they told me it would be. I have asked on the phone with them, and also by email, for them to explain these issues. I have also asked for them to pay for the mistakes they made by partially reducing/rebating the cost of the system because it is producing much less value (in electricity) than promised. I have received lots of resistance to my questions and no explanations or offers of financial rectitude. read more

We did not got with GRNE solar, but went with another company. In retrospect we wish we had gone with GRNE as they had a great offering. It was a close call between our final options and we really were stuck in our decision. I wanted to leave a review to hopefully guide other prospects to go with GRNE as they seemed really great to us and I suspect we would have had a smoother installation process had we picked them over our current provider. read more

From securing cost-effective pricing, to planning the setup, to getting the permits pushed through when the village was stalling, and finishing off with a quality install, they were there all along the way. It's a small company so you have immediate access to the people who know your system inside and out whenever you need them, and they were more than happy to put up with my many questions throughout the process.
