Not a Happy customer, I was told there was a $500 rebate from Nicor when doing the insulation, nothing at any time was said about having to do the attic in order to get the rebate. I just had the walls done, already have the attic done before by us. They did the testing to see how much things changed before and after, I was told it maybe a couple months before I seen the rebate now I am being told that I do not qualify because I did not do the attic. Amazing job by Anthony, Dave, and crew. I have used them twice now to install sound-proofing insulation between the floors of my home. They do great work. And they also communicate really well. Anthony gave me a quote, Dave walked me through the job (before, during, and after), they have a crew of 4+ guys, everything is fast and efficient. In terms of whether the sound proofing insulation works: you can no longer hear conversations between the floors. To the extent you can hear something now, it's muffled. Before, you could clearly make out what people were saying. All-in-all, I've hired Building Energy Experts twice now, and I highly recommend them. read more

They insulate my attic and crawl space last 2014 and now I've got big mold issues. They insulate my floor attic with cellulose but didn't remove the existing fiberglass insulation in the ceiling rafters. Also no baffles were installed completely sealing the attic with no air and so condensation happened creating mold everywhere! read more

I had an awful experience with this company, as apparently have others (see filtered review as well). Anthony came to my house for a $100 energy evaluation and estimate. When I received the estimate, I realized that Anthony completely overlooked an entire corner attic section of the house with an obvious access panel in one of the bedrooms. He came back at my request and added the section to the estimate. I would later learn from his workers on the job that he--even after his second visit--missed a ~15-foot area that was part of this missed room. I decided to go with his company because he seemed honest and a nice guy. Well, halfway through the project, his guys came to me to tell me that they shouldn't perform about 40% of the work because there was probably old knob and tube wiring in that section of the attic. I had pointed out the active wiring to Anthony during his second visit, and specifically how it ran up into the top of the attic, and it apparently didn't occur to him that this would be a safety issue. Anthony wasn't even present while the other workers were here. He told me over the phone mid-project that he would only credit me 17% of the cost for the attic insulation, though by my account about 40% of the area in the price quote was not going to be completed. And this was his own fault; his workers readily discovered the problem without opening any walls. I asked Anthony to come to the house to measure the area they didn't insulate so we could arrive at a fair credit, he refused. Furthermore, when I presented my Angies List coupon for 10% off, they complained that I should have presented it at the time of the estimate--though the coupon mentions no such stipulation. The only reason I can think of that someone would require such a coupon to be presented before an estimate is so that the merchant can fraudulently inflate the price to negate the value of the coupon. Last, beware that Anthony apparently sends out a contract with his proposals that contains a binding arbitration clause. This is basically a way to sign away your legal rights to sue if there is a problem such as this. I didn't sign it, and you shouldn't either. The fact that he even tries to get people to sign this makes me think that he's not willing to stand behind his work. I should have taken this red flag more seriously, and you should too. Also, make note of his C rating with two recent complaints to the Better Business Bureau. read more

I requested information/quote to have my attic above the garage insulated with 'blown in' insulation. Anthony responded to my request later that evening. He gave me an acceptable quote and we set the appointment for the next day. Keep in mind this was after hours! 7:45 Am sharp the next morning as scheduled, Dave and his assistant (sorry, forgot his name) were here. Dave explained everything that would happen, baffles first, etc. Once the job was finished they invited us to take a look to make sure we were satisfied--we were! The response was prompt and courteous, with the price being competitive against other local contractors. We did not sign a work contract due to a separate contractor (who was closer to us) offering a similar price point for the same work. They are unreliable. They give an estimate then decide that they are going to play games and finally just not do the work. Very unprofessional group. They made me buy supplies for this job, showed up at my house during winter, then said there is too much snow on the ground and thery can't do the work. In Spring and Summer they said they were busy and unavailable to do this job. Finally I went with some other company that could get the job done. These guys are all talk and no walk. read more

BEE (Building Energy Experts) sold us on a bill of goods on a $40,000 geothermal Heating & cooling system. It has never worked. Not working today! First - a new well had to be drilled to accommodate the system. It was installed and then they figured that out because it did not work. So we had to drill a second well. Second - There were countless leaks in the installed geothermal plumbing system. Third - The air handlers for the system were and remain wired improperly Fourth - The cooling portion of the system has NEVER worked Fifth - The heating portion doe not heat the house. They did TRY to fix the above numerous times FOR A CHARGE. But the system remains non- functional. We contacted another company and they informed us a compressor failed and needs to be replaced at a cost of $5,000. To add insult to injury the savings this system would afford over our standard propane fed boiler system evolved into electricity bills greater than $1,500 per month. SO we were sold on a cost savings if we moved to GREEN ENERGY. They even filmed a video of their installation espousing how efficient this unit would run. What we got was a $45,000 drain on our bank account, an unnecessary second well, $1,500 a month electrical bills and a House that is not cool in the summer or warm in the winter. read more

My wife and I just moved to Naperville into an older home. We were coming from a new build so the first thought was if the home was wasting energy. They came out and did an energy assessment on our home and phone just a couple of issues, but these couple of issues have saved us over $75 per month. We looked at what our first few months were vs after they came out. Main issues were windows and attic insulation. Has saved us what we paid in only a few months. I had a good experience with this team. Tony was very much an expert and provided me with considerable advice when it came to solving my moisture issue in my ceilings. It was one of those situations where the ceilings had to be opened to determine what the remedy would be. Before I had the work done, Tony and his staff came by twice to help me with understanding the process and what can be done. My nephew who is in the HVAC installation and service business came by while the work was being done, and agreed with the remedy. So far I think this solved my issues. I would probably give them 4.5 stars. The only reason not 5 stars, is there was quite a bit of dry wall repair work needed and they really didn't have a drywall expert. They put the ceiling back together but now it's up to my painter to see if the patchwork can be thoroughly smoothed out. read more

I hired this company after the owner Anthony and his business partner came out to look over my cold house issues. He explained my house was missing air sealing and insulation in the attic and at my request I wanted the basement spray foamed due to air leaks at the sill and under the cantilever fireplace. I had this work done in January of 2017 and have had problems since that I keep finding. I contacted Anthony after the work was done because he quoted me for 4 walls of spray installation and only did 3. The insulation was missing in many parts under the fireplace and along the foundation wall. The air leaks were very obvious as the cobb webs were flapping in the breeze. I asked Anthony to describe the work done in the attic for air sealing and I got a very generic answer that did not apply to the features of my home. I later found out that a majority of the " work" done in the attic, was not done by a second insulation company that came out to determine the problem. The deficiencies in BEE's work were obvious, the air leaking right out of my attic was obvious by the snow melt on the one part of the roof. There were knee walls not closed off and un-even cellulose insulation added. After my first go around with Anthony trying to get the answers I needed he was very hostile with me, not friendly and made me very un-comfortable. I never pursued having him fix the problem and will pay an honest company to do so. I would not recommend this company to do any work ever. read more

Bought a home heating & air conditioning system from this company. When they wouldn't come out to service it, I called another company they found that the system had been mis-wired. Then the system stopped working altogether, I called the other company who told me major components of the system were mismatched which caused the compressor to fail prematurely. Building Energy Experts would not do anything to fix the problem, they just ignored me. They should change their name to Building Energy Incompetents so that people will know what kind of work they will do. Don't trust these guys or you'll lose your money because of their incompetence!! read more
