If I could give zero stars, I would. First of all, I tried calling to ask a question, and it goes straight to voicemail. I called the different location and got the same thing.... Voicemail. When I arrived there, the young lady at the front desk was on her phone popping a pimple. I asked for help in finding miniature roses and the girl had no idea what I was talking about. She asked for a picture and when I showed it to her, she said they did not have any. I went to browse to see what I could find and found the miniature roses. I went on the following day to find some Japanese boxwood. I'm going to be told it was in the back. The back area is huge and I asked for help in finding it but was told they could not leave the front area of the store. I asked for manager and was told he was on his lunch break, it was 10:30 AM. In writing this review, it asks what could be improved. I would suggest hiring people that are helpful and to some degree, know a little bit about plants. read more

Wish they had a larger selection of succulents but the plants are always extremely well cared for so that's a big plus.

I was wondering why this place was ranked so low on Yelp. The staff is less than helpful or even polite. I understand when people are busy not being able to show you where somethings is but when you are slow don't act like I am bothering you if I ask a question. The guy that was able to help me was the guy watering the plants. I knew just enough Spanish to get what I needed. read more

We needed to buy some grass/turf to fill in a very large 11' x 11' square empty space. We went to the one on the Katy Freeway next to Chuy's. They said, "the grass doesn't come here till Wednesday. I asked the girl several times. why Wednesday when your sign says Thursday. She just stared me down and said, "No, Wednesday Wednesday Wednesday." So we waited and went back next week on Wednesday and the people said Thursday, Thursday Thursday, that was the entire sentence, so we went to a different Houston Garden center on sixth and West Little York, and they were very pleasant and wonderful. We were grateful to be able to get the turf for the yard. I can't believe how rude the other store was, and didn't even care when we went back that we had been lied to. They were rude and kind of were laughing at us. Buyer beware. read more

Terrible service at the Webster location! I bought 2 expensive large Crape Myrtle trees. I asked for help loading the trees, and I couldn't find anyone who spoke English. The person who attempted to load the trees into my SUV broke many branches, and I asked them to stop before the trees were heavily damaged. read more

Went there on New Year's Eve to buy some mulch and ask a couple of questions but everyone kept directing me to someone else as they couldn't speak English. Finally purchased the mulch and was told to go to the loading zone. Again it took forever for someone to meet me over there even though I was the ONLY customer there at the time. I finally found the correct mulch and started taking the plastic off of some to load into my car and finally a guy was headed my way. He asked to see my receipt and I showed him and told him that it takes forever for someone to come over. He didn't respond, just loaded the mulch but as he closed my hatch it wouldn't even close because he didn't position the mulch so that the door would close. ****BUYER BEWARE OF NO REFUND/EXCHANGE POLICY**** I purchased 3 small Mexican palm trees LAST NIGHT around 7:45pm. There was no information included on how tall it would grow, so I should have asked a worker before I bought them, but it didn't occur to me at the time. When I got home, I started doing some further research and found that they can grow up to 100ft tall. Since our backyard backs up to a trail, there are some large trees that the Mexican palms will eventually collide with, so I came back to the store today at 2:30pm to see if I could exchange them for shorter palms and was told by the manager that he could get fired if he let me exchange them. He suggested I call the main office to get approval. In the end, the main office refused to let me exchange the palms trees. I understand they have a no refund or exchange policy, but seeing as how I purchased these trees less than 24 hours ago, and they are still in the container in the exact same condition as when I purchased them, I felt this was completely unreasonable. First and last time here! Hours of operation apparently need to be updated. We showed up and gate open and door open but there's 4 guys literally laying on pallets that kicked us out. Stopped in around 9:20pm Saturday night, everything says open until 10pm, they were rude and wouldn't even get up or answer the question about what time they closed- just yelled for us to get out because they're closed. read more

I attempted to purchase several plants today from the Houston Garden Center location 21530 Katy Fwy, Katy, TX 77449. There were only really 2 types of plants remaining; bamboo, and some kind of small bush resembling a holly. The pole sign, and all ads indicate 70% off all trees, and plants. I wheel up the register, and the cashier tells me "You know these plants are not on sale, right?" Are you kidding me? To be clear, this is not the first time this has happened at HGC. However, their 70% off everything (winter sale) has been reliable in the past. This is it for me. I don't know who is running this place, but it isn't the employees or the managers. I went in the with my elderly parents after Mother's Day dinner looking for a Red Bud Tree, because that's what we were going to get for my yard. My parents and I (I also had my autistic daughter with me) look around for a Red Bud Tree--nothing. OK. Not a huge deal, right? So I see something else I would love for my front porch, a pom pom tree. I was concerned about how much sun light it needed so I walk the entire property to go find someone to help me. When I finally find someone he tells me he doesn't know anything about it and I would need to talk to the manager, the "expert". Okaaay, so I walk all the way to the front and ask the "manager" in the little cabana. I ask him if I may have missed the Red Bud Tree and told him I needed help with the Pom Pom. This clown gives me this crazy look and tells me he cannot leave the cabana. WTF? Who is supposed to be answering questions and helping customers here? Don't shop here. We bought a Christmas tree here and it didn't last 2 weeks. I had them cut the bottom off the tree before buying it so it would help it absorb water... like you are suppose too but some reason they didn't know this trick. My mother bought 32 flowers from them today, and they are under promotions, which is 10 for $25. But when we going over the recipe at home we found that we were overcharged with its original price, which it supposed to be around $83 but we ended up paying $127 for them. So we went back to the store and explained what happened, they too realized that we were overcharged but due to some reason they couldn't refund from store, so we were given an office number to call to get the refund. From here everything is okay, it's understandable that people sometimes make mistakes. But when I call the office, the lady named Helen being so rude to me, and raised voice to me because I was not able to name the flower that we bought, but I was trying to tell them I can take photos of flowers that we bought as well as the recipe, but the lady won't give me their email address so I have nowhere to send it. And later she told me to call back in 30min so the right person will handle this, so I called back after 30min, and the other lady answered, she's being very rude too, she insisted me to tell her the name of the flower (honestly I just don't recognize a lot flowers, and on the recipe it doesn't tell the name either), so I said I can email the photos, she told me the email address and giving me attitude raised the voice by saying I'M NOT GONNA STAY ON THE PHONE WHILE YOU SEND THE EMAIL. I don't know how their process works, and I never asked her to stay on the phone with me while I send email, but whatever it is, this is making my day really unpleasant. She could just tell me how the refund process works like they get email first and call me back to work on it or something. We've only been to this garden center 3 times, the first time for a Christmas tree, which we were satisfied with. We went again last weekend for fruit trees because their large sign out front says "fruit trees 1/2 off" so we got 4. When we get to the register, how ironic that the 4 we chose weren't 1/2 off, but no where does it specify what fruit trees are actually 1/2 off. We got them anyway, because we'd already spend 1 hour + picking them out. Then we went this past weekend to get star jasmine because last weekend they had a ton of vines that already blossomed and we wanted 2 more to add to the 2 we already had. So we get 2 jasmine vines, right next to the 2 "star jasmine 19.99" signs, with a label on the container that says "confederate jasmine". I didn't want to get a different kind but my husband looked it up and online says confederate jasmine, also known as star jasmine etc... so we grabbed 2. We also grabbed a blueberry bush for a friend who said he went last weekend and was told by the cashiers they had no more fruit plants. There were also 2 signs by the blueberries labeled "blueberries $14.99" so when we got to the register our total again, didn't match what we anticipated. Instead they charged 29.99 for the jasmine and 16.99 for the blueberry. I asked about the jasmine and they said it wasn't the correct vines, they pointed me where they should be and I showed the employee where the vine was and the sign and I asked where they should be and she said they must not have anymore. (Maybe a good idea to remove the jasmine signs from the jasmine if that's not what you're pricing them at?) and then told me "there's no way the blueberries are on sale because we've never put them on sale!" So my husband walked her over there and showed her and she said "oh, ok" and as she walked by the other employee said sarcastically "$2 difference". It's not about the $2, it's the point. Seems like this place is a total scam. You can't advertise things and not honor the price and if you're going to put specific things on sale, clarify what exactly is on sale. Maybe a sheet people could grab when they get there or something? Idk, but huge disappointment and we won't be back. read more

Their cash registers are extremely out of date and lack barcode scanners. When ringing the order up, the cashier simply looks at a sticker affixed to the product and enters it into the cash register. I bought some fertilizer that was on sale but contained a sticker for the regular price. The cashier keyed in the wrong price. I had to remind her that it was on sale. Be sure to be attentive that you get charged the sale price for sale items. read more

We purchased a fake tree this year for the first time from Costco and are thrilled. He acknowledged that it was just his job to "sit there" I asked him if the owners were aware that it was his job as manager to "just sit there". He said yes. We have bought bushes and shrubs and several different places but were lured in by the 70% off sign. Now I know why! We bought 2 different shrubs and one did fine the other systematically started turning black and dying one branch at a time about 2 weeks in. When I went to speak to a manager about replacement he informed me that it looks like the tree has a fungus, but they have no warranty on anything they sell. He offers no replacement and just kind of laughed and said everything is a final sale. Now I know why everything is "70%" off though still not cheap. That shrub cost me $85.00 and now it's dead. They never answer the phones on top of all of that and are not knowledgeable at all about what they are selling. DONT SHOP THERE YOU'LL END UP PISSED!!! read more

Awful business. I tried to exchange a bag of fertilizer, unopened. I got to my car and some of the instructions on the bag were distorted and were illegible. I went back in and simply wanted to trade for another bag, no refund just get a different bag. They would not do it. Also, the manager on site was a jerk. My wife and her friend recently went up there to purchase a Christmas tree and while they ware shopping noticed a man watching her not knowing that he was an employee and then the man approached her and asked her if she needed help when she started to speak to him he stopped her and said I spoke to you over there and you did not speak to me she said I'm sorry how much is this tree? Instead of answering her question he started questioning her is this your roommate or just a friend and started asking her personal questions when she went to leave The man was standing at my truck door and opened it for her handed her a piece of paper with his name and phone number and started hounding her so you gonna call me are you going to call me you're gonna call me right? She told him well I don't think my husband would like it very much and jump in the truck got out of there as fast as she could put it in drive and he was still trying to talk to her with the door closed!!
