The staff are simply wonderful, genuinely friendly, and extremely helpful. Also, they hand out KOI pellets to those of us who are addicted to them. I have had the privilege and pet the KOI while feeding. It's unlike any other experience you've had. My most recent visit was to pick up some "Dirty Dirt" which is dirt made from food waste compost from the Heights area of Houston. While they're much more expensive, its top quality product and all of my plants thrive living in it. I planted my most recent batch of garden plants, several different types of Certified Organic/Non-GMO potatoes (the plants are sprouting thru the dirt and it's only been a week!). In addition, I got an Orange tree, Swiss Mint, and a few other little goodies for my back yard. The staff answered all of my questions and I went home feeling like I had a true experience. I spent 2.5 hours there, they were very peaceful and happy 2.5 hours. I highly recommend spending some time here.

When I arrived there, the young lady at the front desk was on her phone popping a pimple. I asked for help in finding miniature roses and the girl had no idea what I was talking about. She asked for a picture and when I showed it to her, she said they did not have any. I went to browse to see what I could find and found the miniature roses. I went on the following day to find some Japanese boxwood. I'm going to be told it was in the back. The back area is huge and I asked for help in finding it but was told they could not leave the front area of the store. I asked for manager and was told he was on his lunch break, it was 10:30 AM. In writing this review, it asks what could be improved. I would suggest hiring people that are helpful and to some degree, know a little bit about plants.

On what is arguably THE busiest day for both florists and restaurants alike, you want me to magically pull 3 specially-delivered bouquets and a nice restaurant reservation out of my WHAT?! In desperation, I make my call to Katy Flower Market. I spoke with Darwin, who took all my information and - even though on Valentine's Day they cannot guarantee a time, and I could tell my request was far-fetched and somewhat difficult for them to do on such a busy day - had my roses delivered straight to the restaurant well before their reservation. My boss showed me a picture of the three bouquets, and the flowers were gorgeous - fresh roses that were just barely blooming, so I knew they would last longer than a day or two. I was nervous that, in placing my order so late, that the flowers would be the "leftovers," but these bunches were carefully arranged and quite lovely. In terms of pricing, it is on par with other florists in the area. They have the same styles at comparable prices. No complaints at all with the pricing. I am so impressed (an almost impossible feat with me) with the courtesy of the staff and the extra mile they went to help make my boss' last-minute idea come to fruition. I would absolutely recommend Katy Flower Market to anyone in Houston who is looking for a florist.

After giving us the golf cart tour, she gave us several flags to place in containers of the trees we liked and then John helped us narrow down and select the perfect sizes for our backyard. We chose three 15-gallon Eagleston Hollies (5-6' planted) because we're DIYers; however, Bownds also offers delivery and planting services. If you've been shocked by the skyrocketing price of trees at the usual locations, then you will be pleasantly surprised at the pocket-friendly pricing Bownds extends to retail customers. Do not expect a large staff or miscellaneous garden center plants, this is a family-run business that specializes in trees and only trees. We will be returning soon for more trees to complete our backyard-to-park makeover.

But, I will say that management contacted me upon posting a negative review and were serious about trying to make up for it. They also explained that this nursery is mostly set up for plant sales to landscapers and professionals, even though they do allow sales to individuals at retail prices. This explained the lack of prices and sometimes labels on their plants. I will say that I went to The Ground Up at their Brittmoore Rd location and had a an excellent experience.

They've even helped bring my fruit trees out to my car. The service here is excellent, and they seem to have almost everything I need. So far, I've purchased two Sugar Cane Jujube trees, a cherry tree, a purple and red pepper plant, a few Jade plants, and some flowers to enhance my garden. If you haven't visited Enchanted Gardens, you should definitely add it to your agenda. The fun seasonal decorations are worth the trip alone, and they're perfect for taking pictures.

In addition to Houston Garden Centers for regular fare, I regularly enjoy shopping at Buchanan's and Joshua's nurseries because of their unique and native varieties. Today, though, I was introduced to plants and shrubs at TGU that are just as native or unique and that I had never seen in Houston before. Avery was impossibly patient, thorough, and easy to get on with as he helped me pick out good low-maintenance options for my hodge-podge cottage-style garden. Though The Ground Up is set up mostly for plant sales to landscapers and professionals, they also sell to individuals at retail prices (only on Saturdays I believe). Sasha, when I checked out, was very sweet, funny, and very charming. I've been to their Richmond location and can't speak very highly of it, but this Brittmoore Rd TGU was brilliant.
