The candy here is above average. They're dark chocolate selection is a better option. There is good variety. The staff is friendly and perky. The interior is a working environment. Not the most welcoming and engaging by any means. The area around it is actually quite charming so you could make a nice one or 2-hour visit and walk around the to see the historical sites. My reason for the lukewarm review is the prices are too high for the area. I feel the prices should be 10 to 15% less than they are. read more

We found this place on our way for Vermont. To say this place is a hidden gem would be a bit of an understatement. This is a real deal old school candy shop that makes almost everything in-house. We got a variety of the larger candies including the dark chocolate peanut butter cup. All for $18 which is so very reasonable for the high quality. Back to the peanut butter cup. Where I live in Providence, this would have cost double and be half as good. This is exactly the kind of business that travelers to and through New Hampshire should support. read more

Nelson's Candy is an old school and classic chocolate and candy store, which has been in business for almost 100 years. located along Main Street in Wilton. Nelson's was formerly located a few doors down before moving several years ago to its current location inside a former hardware store, a pretty rustic atmosphere. They specialize in homemade chocolates, candies, fudge, brittles, truffles, caramel corn, taffy, chocolate molds, candy canes, and more, all made on premises. Much of the candy sold here is already prepackaged in assorted bags and gift boxes (sitting around for awhile just by appearance), but you can also choose some chocolates, truffles, and fudge from the display cases (sold by the piece and by weight) . Recently, I stocked up on several signature chocolate bars (white, milk, and dark), milk chocolate morsels, and some penuche nut and peanut butter fudge. I tend to munch on small sweets in moderation to keep me golden during the course of my busy and demanding workday. I just love going to Nelson's, one of my favorite candy stores. It is straight up old school from layout, to the register to the way they make the everything. The guy who runs it is super friendly and his Grandfather is the one that started the business up. If you are going to make the trek out to Wilton for some candy here are some musts. The peanut butter cup, these things are big and filled with a very smooth and delicious peanut butter. The turtles, pecan is my favorite but that are all very well made. And last but certainly not least, the absolute best thing to get at Nelson's is the pumpkin fudge. It is slap your mama good. And the one with pecans is even better. They only have this in the fall though so plan your trip accordingly. read more

I went for a ride today to find this place (also known as Nelson's Candy/Local's Café), mainly do to they host several Blues players a month & just wanted to check it out. I of course HAD to sample the candy (it is a candy store after all) & got the plain fudge & dark & milk chocolate cashew cups for me & a couple family members & was delighted with the choices. I LOVE this candy shop tucked into the quaint little town of Wilton, NH.! We live on the coast and regularly make a trip to the Wilton area (our old stomping grounds) to visit Frye's Measure Mill, Pickety Place, LaBelle'sWinery and Nelson's. No trip is the same without a stop into this family-run candy shop. The owner is SUCH a nice man, and his staff is always so friendly. The salt water taffy is my personal favorite - I can pick and choose - but virtually everything is to-die-for delicious. Chocolate-covered cherries are amazing, as are the varieties of chocolate bark. Stop here and you'll be hooked! Nearby is a terrific theater in their town hall and a great little art supply shop. Not even "Fair" candy. We picked up a box of caramel popcorn at the Deerfield Fair on opening day (Sept. 27, 2018) to take home with us on our way out. Got home, tried a few bites after trying to separate huge clumps of sticky goo. Popcorn was stale as heck, chewy and gross. My guess is they were recycling leftover garbage from the previous fair. $9.00 for a small box of stale popcorn.. Never again. I understand the Fair season is a short season and we all expect marked up prices, but we at least expect a quality product. read more

Nelson's needs to go to school for sugar free candy. That fudge totally sucked. I took 2 bites of the peanut butter. No sweet at all and didn't even taste like peanut butter. I visited Nelson's Candy this past weekend and I am in love! I recently viewed a segment on Chronicle about Nelson's and knew I had to visit. The store is just as charming in person as it was on TV and the owner is just the nicest man! I purchased chocolate dipped ginger, a coconut haystack, a dark chocolate coconut cream cup, and some beautiful sparkling sugar cream candies. Everything was fresh and delicious. From the minute you walk in the door and see the handmade chocolates and fudge and the fresh pecan turtles just laid out and still gooey in the candy case, you will be hooked! I asked Doug Nelson to put together some special mini boxes of truffles for a wedding and he insisted I pick them up the day before so they would be fresh (I was going to get them a week early) they packaged them in little cute boxes and they were the hit of our guests wedding treats. Nelson's has the best old fashioned candy, ever! Dark chocolate covered popcorn, amazing truffles, and the best old fashioned candy canes you've ever tasted! Once you've had one of their candy canes you will wonder how and why we got to today's many flavors. They even have groups of kids come watch the whole process. How special is that?!? The fudge.....the fudge is amazing....people wait all year for the Deerfield Fair, and others, to stock up on their fudge. I have seen people buy 12 boxes at once. Their friends and relatives eagerly await their Christmas presents! If you really want the Dove, Lindt, Godiva or such then go get those but if you want real old fashioned the Nelson's is where You should go!! Oh, Easter, Valentine's, Mother's Day are always packed with people. The fudge and cream filled eggs are huge and astonishingly delicious! If you are in Wilton be sure to visit them! The candy may be delicious, but they are not compliant with FDA food-labeling regulations. My son suffered a life-threatening allergic reaction this week to candy from this store that contained traces of nuts. The candy itself did not have nuts in it, but the trace was enough for my son to need an ambulance ride to the emergency room . There was no labeling whatsoever on the box. Nelson's may have been in business for over 100 years, but it's time to move into the 21st century and comply with the laws. If the owners of Nelson's read this review, PLEASE label your products. My fiance and I absolutely love Nelson's Chocolate... Doug's store when you walk in has this old time feel that reminds you of a more relaxed time. Our favorites are the Rum Truffles that are out of this world. We would rather have these than any swiss chocolate you could offer us. I have to start off by saying that I am pretty obsessed with candy. To me, candy is like pizza, it's hard to mess up haha. But I was surprisingly disappointed in this candy store. And I don't think I've ever given a candy store a bad review. I got pecan turtles, coconut haystacks, and peanut clusters and was disappointed in each item. Like I said, it takes quite a bit to disappoint me with candy but I can make all 3 of those better than Nelson's chocolate. The coconut was not even toasted like it's supposed to be. The pecan clustered had a tiny drop of caramel that they placed on a piece of wax paper, put way too many pecans for the ratio of caramel and chocolate, then a drop of chocolate on top. The peanut clusters were also made with honey roasted peanuts and not regular peanuts lol which is very incorrect. The chocolate barely had any taste and everything just seemed half-assed (sorry for my language.) I will not return and I'm very surprised they're still in business. read more

OK, let me start by saying I drove 2 hours to get here from my home in Boston. I saw this place on the news and had to try it. I got there about 20 minutes before the doors open and they let me right in. Although they were quite busy making candy canes I was allowed to watch and ask all the questions I wanted to. I felt like a kid in a.......OK I won't get corny. I actually picked up some taffy,some fudge, as well as TOFFEE for the wife and some rock candy for the kids. I will say the prices are up there. No doubt. But the fudge was nice and creamy, the toffee almost didn't make the trip home (one of my favorites and they do it right). It was great to see a place keep it old school and still make stuff by hand. The wife says it is without a doubt the best fudge shes ever had. Definitely great toffee. I get brownie points, and sweets! You can't help her enjoy the flowers and a card boys.....fudge is the way to go!. Love it and I will be back. read more
