We were gifted a variety of chocolates at Christmas from a neighbor (who knew of the store as she had worked there years ago). These chocolates are the most creamy and delicious candies I've ever had! I'm more of a dark chocolate lover than milk chocolate, but the milk chocolate from here is so mild and not overly sweet that I fell in love with it immediately. It has been a favorite treat over the holidays, and I will definitely be ordering in the future. Highly recommend! read more

We needed 240 chocolates (4 for each person) and not only did the chocolatier box them up into perfect little boxes of 4 chocolates each, but they tied perfect little bows of our color on each. This store caught my eye right away as it's super charming, and I am a big fan of anything that's local to a place I am visiting. It's always perfect for presents plus you support small business owners. I haven't expected such an amazing selection of chocolates! This time of the year they had lots of Halloween themed candy (so cute). I purchased some gifts sets as well as a few chocolates to treat myself after a long productive day. The sweetest lady at the counter was very helpful and she even gift wrapped everything for me (fall themed wrapping paper with leaves, which is so perfect for this time of the year). Honestly, I am so happy she wrapped majority of everything as the chocolate is so delicious that I don't think I would be able to resist and not open the other boxes if they weren't perfectly wrapped (crossing my fingers that my friends are real friends and they will share). A quaint old fashioned chocolate shop offering a wide variety of handmade chocolates and candies. I've tried many of their items and they've all been delicious. What puzzles me is their use of artificial flavors, colors, including the dreadful vanillin (a synthetic and inferior substitute for vanilla). Most of us will pay for top quality ingredients. This is the best chocolate shop I've been to in years. Due to what is now a pretty evolved chocolate addiction, I feel I have an eye (or taste) for great product and selection. I live in Newburyport, MA, so I'll stop into the local Winfrey's when the supermarket selection just doesn't cut it. Well, the Chocolatier blows them out of the water with what I would estimate to be 20 times the selection, with wide varieties of both unique and classic options. Dark Chocolate covered caramels with sea salt... Enough said. That is truly Heaven in your mouth. I love going to the Chocolatier to reward myself. I have no shame in saying that as a 26 year old I try to get my Nana to go with me and treat me. We are both huge fans. She LOVES the chocolate covered ginger and well as the chocolate covered orange rind, and I love pretty much everything. It is pricey but with that quality and compared to others its worth it. They provide both prepackaged chocolate made there so you can just grab it and go, or you can have your own box made. I get So happy when I get a box, however I seem to make it last more than a day because its so hard not to just devour everything in one sitting. The smell is intoxicating. I swear you can gain 10 pounds just by inhaling! The chocolate is very expensive, but a nice once-in-a-while treat. The only downside is that several of their staffers are light on people skills and they're not a fan of children. read more

Fond memories of visits to this delightful Exter shop during the time we were stationed at Pease AFB made it a no-brainer when time came that 'The Easter Bunny' needed some very fine chocolate bunnies for the grandchildren's baskets. These wonderful people have never disappointed me when, each year I call for this 'special assignment' and off to the mail the bunnies go. One funny note, I transposed the house number and the delivery went to the wrong house and it was already Good Friday ~ and ~ the people weren't home! Father of said grandchildren, looking through the window could see 'the' box on the table. What to do?? A note was left and fortunately that very 'special delivery' found its way into the baskets of two very happy young children on Easter morning. Now there are four in that house, one in Nebraska, and as long as The Chocolatier is still in business on Water Street I will continue to make this, shall I call it an annual pilgrimage? I guess so.
