I just returned from a weekend stay at Nelson's Cottages, and couldn't be more impressed.
I had a wedding to attend in the Adirondacks on 4th of July weekend, and the wedding venue's rooms were already booked when I checked back in April. I did a little research and found Nelson's Cottages within walking distance. After a few, brief, phone calls with Linda Nelson, I decided to book the New Jersey cottage for the weekend (Fri 7/1 to Mon 7/4). It was very reasonably priced, at $100/night, during a holiday weekend.
Upon our arrival, we were greeted by Julie, who asked us to take a walk down to the lake, while she got our cottage prepared for us. (Check in was at 3pm, but we arrived around 12:30pm). Within 10 minutes, she was already ready for us. We paid the remaining balance, went over a few details with Julie, and were off to our cottage. Everything was very simple, fast, and well executed, which is always pleasant after a 4 1/2 hour drive.
The cottage was the first one on the right hand side when you pull into the driveway. It wasn't roomy, but it wasn't incredibly tight either. For two people, it was just perfect. I wouldn't recommend it though, if you plan on traveling with children, as there really wasn't any room for a blow up mattress, or extra sleeping arrangements. There was plenty of space for two suitcases, clothing items to hang on hangers, and other toiletries. There was a desk with a chair, drawers, and a mirror hanging above it. In addition, there was a small seating area right when you walk in the door with a chair, and the mini fridge behind it. The bathroom was small, but accessible, with a toilet, pedestal sink, and stand up shower. The bathroom was very clean and some towels and soaps/shampoos were nicely arranged in a basket above the toilet. All of this was very nice and welcoming.
We brought a fan with us, and used it the entire time, but there was also a very nice breeze due to all of the windows. It was cooler our first two days (60's) and warmer the last two (80's). Due to the rain the first day, we didn't get to enjoy much down by the lake, but we had a chance to take out one of the canoes (provided by Nelson's). It was beautiful being on the lake and enjoying the sunset....until the storm rolled in! Thanks Julie, for pulling us onto shore!!
By the end of our weekend, we were actually happy the wedding venue was booked and we were able to stay at Nelson's. I would definitely stay here again if I return to the area. Thank you, Julie, for everything!! read more
