The wait staff was friendly and attentive, orders were taken within just a few minutes. We came with a large group having called ahead for reservations. The party covered the offerings on the menu, so a wide array of entrees were ordered. Each of the meals were excellent, especially with such a large party in attendance. Everything was placed within 30 minutes, which, I think is rather impressive given the size of the party. Each of the culinary students in charge of preparing the meals accompanied the owner to introduce themselves and ask if everything was to our liking. Overall, I believe many of the previous reviews aren't reflective of the dining experience one can expect. read more

Beautiful setting...that's it - everything else about this place is tragic...no TV, yet there was a tv in the room, no bathmat, dirty, loud, dirty, did I mention dirty? Got the impression they ran out of funds a long time ago and are just hanging on by a thread, praying on unsuspecting travelers not familiar with the area. Single bed in a room that could easily accommodate at least a queen. Not the hotels' fault, but couple arguing on either side of our room until the wee hours in the morning. No AC, fortunately it wasn't hot the weekend we stayed. When the bar let out at two, the entire crew went to the end of the dock outside our window to continue the party. The only good thing is the view. This place used to be great but unfortunately they changed ownership this year and it has gone majorly downhill. Service was incredibly slow. It took over 1 hour to be served food and there were only 6 tables with customers (maybe ~15% seating capacity). Our waitress was nice. I'm sorry but a warning on your website that it will take over an hour is not sufficient - no one wants to wait that long. The food was not great. I had the quail dish. The quail was overcooked, and the sauce was bland. It needed to be more punchy. Very small portions for the price. It was served with THREE 1-inch long fingerling potatoes. Other diners in my party had similar opinions about their own dishes. Had the creme brulee for dessert, in which the custard was very split, approaching sweet scrambled eggs I understand it's more work in a time when help is scarce, but you need to get rid of the paper tablecloths. They feel very tacky for the nicer experience Woods Inn seems to be going for. I was worried about getting a papercut the whole meal. read more

I cannot wait to visit this lodge again! These people know hospitality, they know good food, they know how to provide a great experience so that their guests can enjoy their time in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York. The building creeks. It's lovely, its expansive history is just oozing throughout the atmosphere - you can sense this from the moment that you walk in because the building creeks. Upon entry you're instantly clear about the fact that you are on a property with a rich history - one that was probably built from the lumber of the trees right there on its lake. A property that has withstood all the tests of time. A property that is also very much haunted. Yes, I said it! The Woods Inn has disembodied energies! The property has a ghost (or two, or three) running around, as I PERSONALLY saw the shadow of something or someone in the upstairs hallway coming right at me like it knew my first and last name or something. And this was BEFORE Charlie confirmed that, yes, there are some unexplained things & beings hanging around the spot. If you are a hiker, the Rocky Mountain Trailhead isn't too far. So that's a plus. The Woods Inn, and Charlie & co., deserves all of the success that they have been blessed to experience, and given the opportunity this Winter, I would love to plan another visit. Annual trip, annual dinner entree. The lamb shank is a slam dunk -- fall off-the-bone meat and "ooo-la-la" the flavor! I wanted to lick the plate it was that good. My table mates gave me permission, however good manners prevailed and I managed to find another way to lap up every drop of sauce. Slow roasting produces a mild lamb flavor vs other types of preps. Had a fellow table mate try it for the first time and was equally knocked over with how good it was. Third table table mate ordered at his next dinner. read more

We were looking forward to trying this restaurant, but we were very disappointed. We were the only people there and the food took 55min to come out. Placing the actual order took about 10min in addition to that. The food was not good. The bottled beer tasted like it was 17years old. I was surprised when I walked in to see white linen tablecloths and colorful cloth napkins. The menu is on your phone so you can peruse prior to being seated. There is outdoor porch seating, indoor seating in a small room with a wall of windows overlooking the lake as well as a quaint dining room. I ordered the Italian Wedding soup which was delicious and homemade Lasagna with garlic bread which I very much enjoyed. I will definitely return. There is a bar area with pub food on the lower level. Service was good and looking at other entrees being served people were pleased. read more

In a word - DISAPPOINTMENT! My wife and I were in Inlet last week and we saw that The Woods Inn sign boasted the "Best Pizza" so we thought we'd give it a try. We entered and went up the stairs to the host station where we encountered a less than hospitable host who we later found out was the owner. He asked if we had a reservation and we indicated that we did not. He scowled and looked down at his reservation book before warning us in a disapproving tone that normally reservations are required (something not on their sign or website), but he did have a table available. He pointed us to a QR code for the menu and seated us. We looked over the menu and noticed that the pizza was listed under the "Tavern Only" section. When he returned with some bread I questioned if we were in the right place to order pizza and he informed us that we were in the fine dining restaurant and that pizza was only served downstairs in the tavern. I should add that the existence of the tavern was less than obvious and there was no indication that there were two places to dine. When we went downstairs the tavern was largely empty and was only staffed by a single bartender who took ou order for pizza and wings. We ordered a pepperoni pizza and an order of wings (10). There were a couple of other tables and the kitchen was upstairs so the poor bartender who was all alone had to tend to the three tables and go upstairs to get the orders and bring them down resulting in very slow service (not her fault). All this would be worth it if the pizza was as good as they claimed, but I can't imagine a town anywhere where this would be the "best pizza around". The pizza was on a tasteless premade crust, the sauce had no seasoning, and there were only about 10 pieces of pepperoni. The wings were grilled and tasted fairly good, but the skin was rubbery. I can summarize the long review by saying that it's clear the owner doesn't really seem to care, the prices are high, and the food isn't very good. read more

We went here twice to eat with out of towners for birthday celebrations- July and August. Both times we were quite large groups. Our service was polite and quite punctual for the ADK. The owner stopped by both times and chatted with us. And he has an amazing singing voice! He blessed us with it singing happy birthday both times. I am still dreaming about the risotto and shrimp I had the second time. The shrimp was cooked to perfection. Crisp and moist. I was impressed. My family (myself, parents and son) and 2 guests dined outside on the porch on Tuesday, July 25. Overall the food was very good as usual, service was decent and there we felt safe (server was wearing a face shield, the tables were cleaned and propertly distanced, etc). The problem occured a few days later. On Friday, they posted on their FB page that an employee tested postive for covid and that they were shutting down (the vague post has since been taken down). I was obviously concerned for my parents who are in their late 70s and I needed to tell something to the parents of the two guests we brought (who were under 18). Did the employee work in the kitchen, was it a sever or someone who maintained the property or cleaned the rooms? What was the potential exposure to our party? Should I be tested, do I quarantine and what do I tell the people who I interacted with over the last several days? A void of information and many unanswered questions about a potentially very serious situation. I contacted Woods Inn and the phone was not answered. The next day on a local Facebook page, I posted about what happened and began interacting with management (via the comment feature), specifically the gentleman who posted on the Woods Inn Facebook page. He refused to provide any additional information and referred me to the County Health Department (it was closed as it was Saturday). Obviously the employee's identity who tested positive needs to remain confidential, but in my opinion, a retail establishment has a duty to provide better information to their patrons. If you want repeat business, pay attention to your guests after you swipe their credit card. I will take my business elsewhere. read more

My wife and I celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary by making a reservation at the Overlook Restaurant at the Woods Inn. We were told that if we arrived 15 to 30 minutes prior to our reservation, we could sit outside. Despite our early arrival we were seated inside. That was alright except that the waitress, Kelley, was surly and business-like. NO warmth or friendliness. In fact, there were crayons and a paper table cover, and my wife drew a heart with our first names and the date of our marriage. No comment from Kelley. That was strange. We had to wait an hour for our food, and the food was terrible. I had the chicken pot pie, with almost no chicken and dark meat at that. My wife had the lobster ravioli, and it was rich and heavy. We left feeling ripped off. We would not recommend eating here. read more

The bartender, who was the owner, spilled almost 1/2 of my friend's drink when he set it down on the bar. He smirked and said, "It was too full anyway." No apology, no. price adjustment. He charged her full price for 1/2 a drink. Accidents happen, drinks get spilled, but his attitude was appalling. Then he began shutting off lights and pressuring us to leave at approximately 8 pm. The bar was supposed to be open until 10, but the next day was his birthday and he wanted to leave early. Again, his attitude was the real issue. We were made to feel unwelcome. Made the mistake of booking at the inn for two days during the black fly challenge. First night all good. Second night they had booked out the inn for an wedding event. Here is where the problem begins. We were informed that all facilities were only available for a private event. We went to the clerk and mgr and they did nothing. Things they could of done:. Disclosed this would be the case at time of booking,. Or even at time of check in,. Given us a reduced rate for the second day for not being able to access facilities. But they chose to do nothing. We got one drinks order in, and after that no one came to see if we wanted more; I finally took it upon myself to go to the bar downstairs to bring drinks up for the table. Our waters were never refilled. No attempt at remediation was made, just a remark about there being two large parties. Even with the large parties, the place was only at about 30% capacity. This is my first ever review of anything. here it goes... "Banned for Life" We gave it one star because zero isn't an option! We booked a midweek 2 night stay for some R&R but had to reschedule due to Covid in the family! When I called to reschedule, the owner asked for a photo of the positive Covid test, (never heard of such a thing ) after an additional $40 change fee. However we did reschedule for a later date and upon arrival we headed up the steps to our room on the fourth floor... ( no elevator, or anyone to help with our bags ) we walked past a dirty mop, bucket & vacuum to settle in after a 6 hour drive. We immediately noticed a musty odor, black mold near the upper molding and a dead spider on the bathroom sink. We understand this is an old inn but cleanliness is expected (and cheap) We walked down the hall and popped our heads into a few other open rooms and saw similar conditions. WE LEFT! No one was at the front desk... We then tossed our room key on the desk and left... Also When we pulled back the bed sheets we exposed the dated mattress with a foam topper from the 70's which also had hair on it and four flimsy dirty pillows. There was no one visibly around to show or even talk to regarding these issues! We called upon leaving to try and get at least one of the nights refunded , we were then connected to an answering service, we left a message and received a call back from Charlie the next day ... After explaining our disappointment and concerns we were told not only would we not receive a refund but also we're not welcome there ever again and he's going to call all the other hotels in the area and let them know not to rent to us...thus banning us from the area forever. To be very clear... this poor review isn't about lack of snow (we didn't even bring snowmobiles) It's about cleanliness and lack of service and poor hospitality!!! We stayed here two nights . It was very noisy when guests were going to and from their rooms . The dining service was very slow and we had to refill our own water at one point as our waitress had disappeared for quite some time . The food was good but not great . The second night at the tavern they brought the wrong entree . They do social distance and wear masks and sanitize . We basically paid for the view and the convenient walk to town. read more

Overall, the Woods Inn is a great place to stay in the Adirondacks, and like all hotels, it isn't perfect. My only complaints, which were difficult to come by, are about the service of the restaurant, and the cleanliness of the inn itself. Although the food in the restaurant is fantastic, the service is unreliable. I understand that there is a smaller workforce because of the pandemic, but the service was slow even before this. We waited around 45 minutes for our food, and over an hour to receive dessert. The cleanliness of the hotel could also be improved, but this wasn't a major complaint, and didn't sufficiently affect our stay in any way. read more

My family has a cottage in Old Forge and has eaten at Woods Inn many times. We placed our order and it took the kitchen over an hour and a half. During that time no one came to our table. We were essentially dropped. Our food arrived, my salmon was fully cooked, which is over cooked for salmon. The ravioli was cold and the chicken was salty. The server never came to see how our food was. A bus person picked up our dishes and dropped off the bill. The cherry on the top was an auto gratuity of 20%. We are very disappointed. read more

I stayed here several nights over a two week period for work. I observed that people were not adhering to policy about wearing masks. My worker who was to come back for a three day stay has a compromised immunity and this was not a good choice for him. Upon my checkout I asked if I could cancel my upcoming three day stay for my employee, I was told that I had to do it through booking.com. When I returned to my office I went online and cancelled. It looked like everything was as it should be and fine. Surprisingly a few days later on my credit card I received a bill from the hotel. I contacted them and asked them if they could remove the charges and explained why. They refused. I asked booking.com to contact them and they again refused. I protested the fees with my bank and they must have concocted some story because the bank refused to honor my cancelation. (That part is yet to come to an end however) Now, if you read below you will see the booking .com covid policy. Yes, there is some wishy-washy fine print but it still appears to have our best interest in place. I stayed there three nights and gave them on average of $130 per night for a room in a very old "hotel" that was like staying in grandma's country farmhouse. Did I complain about the price, not until they wouldn't let me cancel. I had to get a room at a different hotel to house my worker AND I got charged for here as well This is just bad form. My several repeated inquiries fell on deaf ears. What is the cancellation policy related to the coronavirus? You might be able to cancel due to the circumstances related to the coronavirus. However, it depends on several factors, including your destination, the date you made your booking, country of origin, arrival date, and reason for traveling. If your cancellation falls under this category, the property has to provide a refund, offer a free date change, or credit you for a future stay. **Summertime review** Sitting on the deck while watching the sunset over the lake can not be beat. Dinner inside the historic Inn is always a treat too. Menu is full of local fresh fish and game, with plenty of delicious sides. I settled on a 4-star rating because it is the 5-star ambiance that lures you there but food is probably around 3-stars on it's own. Also after dinner or late-night you can head downstair to their pub which has dart boards, a pool table, occasional live music and karaoke! read more

Service was an issue from the start, with it talking almost 15 minutes for a waitress to acknowledge us. Eric, the busboy ended up tracking one down for us, and proved to be the most competent person there. (thanks Eric) Sadly, the waitress guessed at the specials, and wasn't sure about many of the menu items in general. After a bit more of a wait, our orders finally did arrive, albeit not correct. Sides and toppings were inexplicably missing, and without acknowledgement from the waitstaff. Bedrooms had exposed wires, lint covering all bedding. Staff gave our family attitude all weekend, arguing about extra towels, and canceling our fire last minute for the wind which didn't exist. Unfortunately we just had one of the worst service experiences ever with the restaurant staff. We had 8 people and went to put in a regular food order with everyone selecting an entree. The place was not full at all. For reasons that will never make sense to me they refused to serve a party of our size, despite having plenty of large tables. We offered to put in smaller orders separately, which they inexplicably still refused. This place is apparently not interested in running as a business. We stayed in the woods inn cottage for a week. The cottage was beautiful, very clean, new and updated facilities. I posted some photos. It sits directly on the water and has a private little dock. Nice gas fireplace. Comfortable beds. Kitchenette with full size refrigerator. The place was absolutely beautiful. Service was relaxed, we had to get our own towels most nights. read more

New owners bought The Woods Inn a few years ago and have really turned this place around! My (now) husband and I looked into holding our wedding here after the new owners took over. We contacted them, and within a few days, we had an appointment to meet with their event coordinator on site. Their event fees are very reasonable, and they had multiple options for the catering menu. Due to date conflicts, we ended up not holding our wedding at The Woods Inn, but if we had more flexibility in our work schedules, I have no doubt we would have been very happy with the results! Just be sure that if you have a particular date in mind, especially during the summer, that you contact them ASAP as their summer dates book quickly! read more

The staff is always willing to "go the extra mile" to serve the guests. The atmosphere is true to the historic Adirondacks as the Inn resembles a great lodge or Inn! The owners are onsite and really care about the community, the guests and the Adirondacks. During the summer, you can rent kayaks right on site! We have enjoyed staying at this historic hotel on the lake for many years. We overlook the lack of air conditioning and TVs in the rooms for the beautiful location. We have had mixed results with the restaurant. We booked a reservation using their app today. When we found the hostess, we were told our table would be ready shortly and they would come find us. After an hour wait we attempted to check in on our table. We could not find the hostess who was (according to wait staff) serving drinks, we were eventually told we would have a table soon. Another couple in front of us left after a two hour wait. When I found the hostess after stalking her for another 20 minutes, she indicated she was no longer working our table as she thought we left. We finally realized the meal we planned out all day was not going to happen and walked away. Very disappointing experience. read more
