I came back to Nemesis Coffee for a second visit. The first time I came here I had a great experience, so I was excited to come back. This time it actually wasn't that busy. There were quite a few empty tables and the place felt pretty relaxed. I was doing a bit of work and ended up staying a little longer than the 90-minute table limit. One of the staff members came up to us and said, "Hey, you guys have been here longer than 90 minutes. You'll have to leave soon." I told him that was fine and asked if I could just finish my coffee. He said okay, but then about a minute later he came back with a to-go cup and said, "Here you go, you guys can leave now." Honestly, that caught me off guard. Especially since it wasn't busy and there were still plenty of open tables. During my first visit, Jimmy went above and beyond to make sure everything was great, and I don't think he would have handled it that way. My friend has always raved about Nemesis coffee and brought me back a box of their beautifully packaged Allan & Senel Campos La Toboba Jocotes beans for me to try. I was HOOKED. During my last trip to Surrey, I made sure to stop by and fill up on caffeine and pastries. This location looks like an Apple Store from the outside with a modern glass exterior and minimalistic interior. From what my friends have told me, this location is much larger than their Downtown Vancouver location. Upon entering, the first thing I saw was Nemesis' vibrant colored boxes nicely lined up on a table next to the window for purchase in addition to merch (shirts, mugs, etc.) featuring their simplistic upside down blue heart logo. They switch out the coffee varieties on a regular basis, and so make sure to check their site first if you are looking for a certain bean! After perusing the merch, I made my way to the line and was captivated by the fancy high-end pastries in the glass counter. The company that makes the pastries is called Dope and they had everything from cookies to croissants to cakes and crullers. Prices were reasonable and I paid under $20 USD for four pastries. They had unique flavors including: strawberry & pistachio danish, tiramisu croissant, churro cruller, iced cap cruller, apple hojicha fritter, ube donut, and more. Like the Nemesis packaging, the Dope pastry boxes were art pieces on their own and probably the prettiest to-go boxes I've ever seen; they are a bright vibrant blue with their signature smile and tongue character logo and metallic writing. They literally look like designer shoe boxes. Nemesis features two seasonal drinks at a time, but they don't offer any flavored drinks otherwise and so if you're looking for a basic vanilla latte, this is not the place. The two seasonal drinks they were featuring in February were the Beet Root Latte and the Black Sesame Corn Latte (no coffee in this one though). Personally, neither quite appealed to me and so I just ordered a basic OAT MILK LATTE sweetened with simple syrup (you could alternatively get it sweetened with honey). The espresso was smooth and the oat milk was nice and creamy. To share with my family, I also ordered the... - APPLE HOJICHA FRITTER ($4.75 CAN) - as someone who doesn't normally like donuts, this fritter was the best fritter I've ever had and definitely on the not-to-sweet side. It was crunchy on the outside, chewy on the inside, and full of apple pieces, apple spiced compote, and cinnamon. The hojicha dusting was subtle but added a nice slight earthiness to the pastry. I liked this pastry so much, I ended up ordering another one later on! - The ICED CAP CRULLER ($4.75 CAN) - this cruller was also fantastic and full of espresso flavor. The espresso cream filling and the condensed milk glaze were delicious and tasted like I was eating a Vietnamese coffee. 10/10 would get this again! - BROWN BUTTER BANANA CAKE ($5.75 CAN) - this cake was super moist and had a beautiful piping of cinnamon espresso buttercream on top. I'd say this one was the least unique of the pastries I ordered, but was a solid slice of banana bread and the buttercream was smooth and light. - CHOCOLATE ORANGE SUISSE ($7.50 CAN) - this pastry was the most interesting texture-wise as it has a crispy exterior that reminded me of chowmein noodles, wrapped around a croissant. The candied orange was very distinct and could be tasted in both the chocolate orange filling and the outside. While the most expensive of the pastries (probably because of the extra labor it takes for this one), I thoroughly enjoyed every bite and would order this one again too. The seating areas and bathrooms are clean. Service is excellent- we got our orders within 10 minutes after ordering and they come by to give you water and silverware as needed. TLDR, Nemesis is 1000% worth the stop and I can't wait to be back whenever I am in Surrey next. Overall, 5/5 for coffee and pastries, 5/5 for service, 5/5 for atmosphere read more

This was the cutest cafe we found while visiting Surrey. Really nice environment to get some work done with plenty of seating. Tried several pastries and breakfast items and really appreciated the quality of everything. Our drinks - flat white and cappuccino were very good and coffee is smooth. We had the French toast, mortadella sandwich - subbed mortadella with avo, matcha pastry and a butter croissant. Many of the baked items were made with sourdough and grass fed butter- sourced from Dope bakery so we were super impressed with that. Cool coffee shop. Has a small parking lot but it's free. The pastrys and coffee are very good, on the pricier side. Service is good. Only thing that some people may not enjoy is how loud it is. We tried the Cashew chocolate cookie, tiramisu croissant, Americano and a moka. They only have oat milk or homogenized milk. No skim milk! They have a nice outdoor seating area as well, but it was a little windy so we decided to sit inside. read more

I ordered and enjoyed the beetroot latte (mainly because it's unique and like beetroot! ). My friends also enjoyed their drinks. Our only issue was the sweetness--we all agreed our drinks were way too sweet for our liking. I'd say 7/10 for our drinks. However, the pastries we ordered were a solid 8/10! Both the service and ambience were chill. I think Nemesis is a good cafe to get work done, but be prepared for only 1h WiFi access! read more

I'm not much of a coffee and pastries person, but I think I'm starting to get it. After checking out the other location, I dropped by the Surrey spot to try it out. Decor is nice overall and is what you'd expect from a busy coffee spot. It's not as busy as it seems like it was when the location first opened. Lots of seating available during summer, but I can see people avoiding the outdoor spots when it gets colder. I've tried a few of the various pastries now. The tiramisu croissant is definitely the most appealing looking. I didn't think it was amazing but it was a nice treat. I actually liked their iced capp honey crueller a lot. I wasn't expecting their take of ice capp cream inside the pastry. The brown butter banana cake might have been the best thing I've ever had though. The matcha ube was really nice when I tried it in terms of drinks. I really liked coming to Nemesis. I especially love the variety of pastries. Definitely gotta find time to try them all out. read more

Situated in a newly constructed, modernist, high ceiling location with floor to ceiling windows, we have a new Nemesis Coffee location in Surrey! TLDR: Donuts are their specialty at this location. It's their opening week at the moment, so please make sure to allocate some time to lining up early and make it there before their 5pm closing time. The staff were so thoughtful to provide mini donuts for everyone in the lineup on Saturday! What's special about this location is that they're able to serve three kinds of cocktails here from 11am to 4:30pm. I went in for a simple coffee, but once I saw the Matcha Ube Milk Punch, I was hooked. It's quite boozy for a drink at 4:30, but it's wonderfully delicious with its unique matcha, ube, mango foam and punchy whiskey base. As with all locations, they sell their boxes of direct-trade whole coffee beans here and fancy baked goods that they're know for. The place features a large seating area of about 50 seats with some at the bar and some against the window, but what I liked was that when you're seated at the cafe, you don't feel boxed in by the place itself. The wood, steel and glass materials standout, yet blend together seamlessly and also put the focus back on the food. It's nice to see them bringing your order to your table at this location, but I didn't have time to explore where the water taps were or the napkins. read more

I have mixed experience with the number of Nemeses in town. This chain of Korean styled pastry shops and cafes seems to be popping up all over town. Surrey Central is their third location. Ambiance is high brow top notch, woodsy interior with "bespoke" pretentious art books on bookshelves Pastries are typically cream filled mix bag of croissants, cruffins, cronuts etc with a thrown in light brunch menu. These are fairly standard in a number of similar Korean shops but delivered at an extremely higher end of pricing. Service seems to always be lacking. Except for the busboy, the cashier exemplified this typical terrible demeanour. I came here at 10am after a morning meeting in the area. While the place is 1/2 empty, the cashier asked me where I like to sit. I said how about the table in the back. She says tables are reserved for larger groups and suggested I sit by the window counter next to a homeless man since I was solo. I insisted, it is not busy. and I would like to sit at a table. With an eye roll and a look of disdain, she relented, "alright". FYI, where I sat, there were three solo white males with laptops at tables for more than one. Five minutes later, the same cashier seats a female solo patron at a table next to me. WTH? So is it racism, sexism? WTH knows, just not coming back to find out. All I can say is even you've strive for pretentious digs, serve overpriced delectables, but you have such atrocious customer service, I cannot recommend this place. read more

Compared to the Vancouver location this was a bit of a let down. The building is pristine and new but the service was a bit chaotic. Ordered some brunch for Mother's Day. They missed part of my order and the other orders took forever. The fried chicken sandwich is bland and has too much mayo. The Mortadella also too much sauce. The pastries are top tier. Especially the churro donut. The main dishes were okay but just really pricey. It kinda ruined the experience for me. read more

I have been vancouver which is great but surrey location staff are rude..june 12 african decent and two asian male and female servers / barista seems like they are not happy serving people. Fourth location of the Nemesis chain just west of the Surrey Central bus loop/skytrain station and mall. Modern and sleek interiors. Enjoyed the almond croissant (10/10), pistachio pastry wheel (8/10) and tiramisu croissant (10/10). The pastries were all fresh and crispy, which is often not the case when filled with moist fillings. The matcha latte was delicious (10/10) but the regular latte was not good (5/10). Latte tasted but acidic and bitter. The breakfast sandwiches and hash brown looked very delicious when I had a peek of the neighboring table. Will be back to try those out. Appreciated that everything we had was not overly sweet. One thing I didn't like that is that the lady responsible for the pastry counter did not have her frizzy and long hair under control. read more

I stopped by before class after getting off the bus; its location is easy to access by transit and thankfully there was no line! All the food on display looked amazing and fresh. Service is quick and friendly. Music was a bit loud for 9am, but that's a personal preference. The view of the onlooking SFU building and transit was gorgeous, and was probably the highlight of my day! I wont lie, the menu of café drinks was quite limited when I first saw it, but it is very unique, with a specialty roasted brew and espresso, a couple lattes. The menu also included a selection of cocktails. I ordered a Matcha Latte ($7). The food selection was a lot more extensive, with the lot of pastries and sit-down meals they offered. I wish I had more time to try one of those, but I ended up getting a Chocolate Croissant ($5). Their Matcha Latte was watery to my taste- I usually like it a bit more bitter, but none of the Matcha flavours I expected came through, so I was a bit disappointed. My Chocolate Croissant had a wonderful exterior that was especially fresh and crunchy; I would've hoped for some more of the chocolate filling though, as it was a pit sparse on the chocolate. I regret not getting a donut, as apparently that is their highlight; I'll come back for one next time! I think that it's a bit overpriced for what they are offering, especially with the one-size drinks that are just a little too small; I would love to come back to try their donuts and cocktails though! read more

This space is partnered with Marcon, having the coffee shop with the real estate sales center. We visited in the morning and the sun was hitting the entire coffee shop section of the building so ended up sitting at the island. The space was really nice and the matcha and food was okay. We enjoyed more of the unique matcha drink (wasabi matcha yuzu soda) compared to the classics and the food portion is small/ def is more of a coffee shop, not a brunch spot.
