Nothing worse than your computer going down, had previously had the great employees at Nerd Crossing make a repair a few months ago. Then on Monday my printers refused to print. Called Eric on Monday, he came out to my office, discovered the problem, and on Thursday set up my new computer saving settings and bookmarks, etc. Can't recommend this firm higher, on a scale of 1-10, they are a 20. What a great experience at Nerd Crossing today -- with a very special thanks to Eric who helped problem-solve a sticky software issue on my MacBook Pro. Eric really was a star in dealing with an Adobe Acrobat problem -- which as a teacher and writer is a serious problem, as all my work deals in PDFs. I was at my wit's end trying to gain access to my PDFs, which were all frozen out because of some glitch in the program. I did all the internet research on the issue I could, restarted, reinstalled, called Adobe's support line, and nothing was working. I called NC in desperation, and Eric was able to get me a slot within the hour. With a friendly demeanor, he spent 45 minutes with me, patiently working through a number of different solutions. At the same time, he was explaining what he was doing, so it became a useful experience if I have the issue in the future. Ultimately, Eric was able to fix the glitch and I could access my files -- HUZZAH! We both almost did one of those 80s leaping high-fives (though with COVID, you know, a leaping elbow bump will do). My computer totally went to the black screen of death, made me wonder if it got the civid19 corona virus, but I could not get nothing but a cursor and a black screen, so I called Nerd Crossings and it was a piece of cake to them, I dropped off my computer and 2 days later they found the problem, fixed the problem, even made my computer faster to load, and installed a virus protection, I cannot thank them enough for this, I definitely give them 10 stars if it was available! These guys are the superior alternative to Geek Squad. My dad recently spilled water all over his laptop and even when he had given up all hope on resurrection, I decided to ask these guys to see what they could do. Even after hearing what had happened to the machine, they still opened it up and tried to get it running, and tried to save the data, too. Turned out, the laptop had indeed died and there was no way to salvage anything. However, the key defining factors that set these guys apart from other tech help services were: - They don't make you feel dumb when you tell them how you broke your own stuff. - They bend over backwards for you even when they're just giving a free estimate. - They are down-to-earth and easy to talk to! Also, 'like' these guys on Facebook to get a lot of useful (and free!) computer tips + news! You might think, "Oh, they'll probably just spam my news feed with a bunch of useless stuff..." or "I already know everything I need to know..." but you'll be surprised! My computer crashed and I needed help immediately. I called late at night, thinking I would get the answering machine but instead got Mark in person. He changed his schedule around to accomodate mine the next morning. As an Ambassador to the Pinole Chamber of Commerce I try to keep up with all of the new business coming to town...and I was super excited when I ran into Jim of Nerd Crossing at a mixer. I Iove their cool branding and was excited to see a fun group of guys taking pride in what they do. When I was ready to take my MAC in for a little tune up I knew just who to call. Grabbed their number off the handy-dandy fridge magnet he had give me at the mixer and they got my machine running fast again. A couple a weeks later, I had them over to my house to help upgrade my wireless network. Khoi was super professional and helped me out! Sadly, I just had to call on them again yesterday when I dropped my laptop...and jacked up the hard drive. BUT DON'T FRET, I just got off the phone with them and they are going to have me up and running by the end of the day today (now if I had just backed up sooner than a few months ago, I'd be in better shape) but I'm just glad they were able make my little machine better again. AND I often know just enough "techie" stuff to be dangerous, but they always hear me out and talk to me so that I understand what is going on. Don't see how I could possibly have had a better experience. Professional, utterly competent, fair prices, excellent communication, friendly comfortable atmosphere. Saw them twice in 4 months for issues with my 6 year old laptop. First time, it could be fixed, second time, not. There were 2 or 3 opportunities for an unscrupulous business to angle for providing services and/or hardware that would have been suspect for such an old machine, as I was floating "creative" ideas for keeping this old laptop in service - It would have been easy to just agree with me that these were good ideas, and reap the profits, but in all cases (different employees each time), my creative ideas were firmly rejected. 10/10 will recommend to anyone who needs help with computer issues. read more

I had a fairly straightforward request for these nerds - check my "broken" hard drive to see if the files and info on it could be accessed. They told me to bring in the whole computer for a free diagnostic test but I just brought in the hard drive. It was likely a simple job for them and I was told that there "may" be a charge depending on what had to be done but I got two follow-up phone calls from them and they tested it a couple of different ways. The final call informed me that the drive was not able to be read. I went to collect it and didn't know what kind of bill to expect but they simply handed me the drive and told me that it could likely be processed by a shop with special equipment for about $1500 - I have gone through that before with business drives but this was from a simple home setup with no important files. "No Charge" for what they did so I left plenty happy. I will likely be back wih my next problem should I need expert service. The staff was great - nice and knowledgeable. As far as the earlier posts regarding over-priced service and parts, I certainly didn't see this even though they could have charged me. Like any brick-and-mortar store, they are not going to sell parts for Internet prices. And like any store, if you visit five stores you're gonna get five prices or quotes. Kinda the way it works. Terrible place. They overcharge you 4 times. To change a screen on a laptop they asked for 400 dollars.... I knew that my screen was broken but they still wanted money for diagnostic which I did not need. They charge you 80 dollars for such a diagnostic , which is ridiculous and a rip off. Their prices for labor are from another dimension as well.., 150 dollars to change a screen...., I ended up changing it for just 100 dollars in a different place. Dear Jim , First please do not give nicknames to people you do not know. I am not "Greg from LA" and do not like being given such nicknames.. Second I do not care that you did not find service ticket or whatever you were looking for. I repeat I didn't not service my computer at your place , because you company wanted 80 dollars for taking my computer for diagnostic which I did not need..... I knew what was wrong with my screen and I didn't need you so called 80$ diagnostic, I just needed the screen to be changed. Them in a personal message you said that screen usually costs around $150 which is a complete lie! Screens cost around $50 dollars for most regular laptops. Your company just overcharges and uses disgusting marketing techniques.... read more

I took my computer in when the screen went dark. They had the computer 5 day before they call to say they would need to take the computer apart. After another 2 day they called to stay the monitor was bad and I needed to purchase another computer. I went to best buy and dropped off the new computer the next day to have the data transferred over. Well 4 days later they call to say the computer is read to be picked up. I dropped my computer off on 1/31/17 and was called on 2/15/17 to pickup the new computer that is way toooo longgggggggggg. I run a small business and two week without a computer is devastating. I would not use the company again and you should take warning. read more

This spring I bought a 7" Dell xps computer and a large monitor. I needed help connecting the monitor, and in clearing (malware) ads from the xps; also, my 2008 slow-but-working computer needed clearing of malware. So I took all this, including a bunch of cables, to Nerd Crossing, who said "a couple of days" and cost (estimate, I thought) of as much as $550. Jim glanced very briefly at the cables and threw them back to me. But the next day I had to drive out there again with a cable he'd tossed aside the previous day. He should have also asked for the power cord for my old computer; lacking that, he had to remove the motherboard to clear the malware and also try to transfer Windows Live Mail (WLM), which hadn't transferred when I'd moved over my old computer's data (with help from Carbonite). On the 4th day, having heard nothing from my multiple calls, Jorge finally called, but couldn't give me anything definite. On day 7, with still no word from Nerd C., I left a message and simply drove out there, figuring Nerd C didn't care how long they kept my equipment - and wondering if they were racking up hours and costs. For my $550 what did I get? The old computer doesn't work at all now: its motherboard was jammed back in carelessly, with part hanging out the side, and a WLM icon now blocks all use. Trying to move WLM from the old to the new computer apparently was what took so many days - though I'd told them it was available online. (I do now have WLM, via Dell online support. It took her about 20 minutes to do; it works perfectly.) The monitor is connected correctly - which seems pretty simple; the new computer cleaned of much, though not all, its malware (Dell support eventually cleared it). I'm out over half the cost of the new xps, my formerly working old computer seems wrecked, and I still had to get help clearing malware from the new computer. Moral of the story: I should have relied on Dell support, even though I'd been disillusioned by the crummy infected state of the Dell when it first arrived in my home. The other moral: I would never entrust my computer to Nerd Crossing again. read more

So glad I found a local computer repair shop! The location is very open and is plain sight for those of you that are blind like myself. Inside is nice, clean and professional looking. I like how they had nerd candy boxes as decoration (or it could be for the guests lol) I came in this morning with my Macbook Pro bcus I had dropped it and my ram came loose (not the first time it's happened) I came in and was greeted and help immediately. The gentle man who helped me was a tall heavy built man (sorry, I forgot to ask for his name) but he was very pleasant and opened up my laptop and kept poking his head out behind the work station to let me know what he was doing to my laptop. He fixed it for me within a couple minutes and he did it for FREE. Yay!!! Such a nice guy! Definitely will be coming back and recommended this place to all my friends & family. read more

I've driven by this business many times, and always chuckled at their clever name. However, I never had a reason to use their services because I had a warranty on my computer through Best Buy (what a joke that was -- but that's for another review). When Best Buy refused to cover my computer problems because it was not deemed a "hardware problem," I decided to get a second opinion and went to Nerd Crossing. I found everyone there to be courteous, friendly, and very professional. They also impressed me with how they found a workable way to operate during the whole COVID-19 pandemic without risking their employees and customers. Jim called me a few days later and confirmed he couldn't get my computer to start either and expected it was, indeed, a hardware problem. I really appreciated how he was able to break it down for me in a way I could understand without making me feel like a complete idiot (like the Geek Squad and Best Buy often does). Jim really does go the extra mile. He not only gave me a verbal assessment over the phone, but he also emailed it to me so I could produce this to Best Buy. When I asked if they took credit cards because I didn't have any cash with me, Jim waved me off and said "it's okay, we didn't fix it, so we're not charging you for checking it over." Wow. Who does this anymore? I felt like I was transported back to the 1960s when businesses understood the idea of customer bonding and brand loyalty, harkening back to the days of David Olgilvy's Advertising Man. Jim gets it and that gesture has won me for life! I'm sure Best Buy will try to worm their way out of fixing or replacing my computer again. But I've learned my lesson. Twice I've crashed my PC, and twice they rebuild better than new. Thanks to Carbonite, I was able to reload everything into a new PC. But I now had a PC that was dead. They rebuilt, new hard-drive, some new software. Way better than Best Buy or Staples. Wish they had a night shift to speed up the process. read more

As opposed to Best Buy, they don't send the hardware somewhere else to be fixed and returned in two weeks. Here they do the work at their shop.
