Remember, this is Oregon! How remote is it? Well, Neskowin looks almost like Redondo Beach in comparison. I know! Ewww, huh?!?! The saving grace is that unless it's a summer weekend it's just never all that crowded. You can meander north out of the Lilliputian parking lot and reach the Nestucca flowing into the Pacific, that is, unless it's a winter high tide. Then you run the risk of getting trapped on the north side of the group of rocks shown in the attached photo, that is, if you can get through at all. It's a decently long walk (20-30 minutes) up to the Nestucca. The landscape is always undergoing changes due to the Pacific Ocean pounding away, so keep your wits about you. The things you can find on the beach here! Russian shoe polish kits, Japanese whiskey bottles, fishing floats, surf boards ... We've seen more than a few dead critters over the years too, even a cow. Try this walk in a thunder and lightning storm. Try it in the dead of night in winter, just be sure the tide is going OUT.

When we were there we only saw one family when we arrived and two families as we were leaving. Makes for a lot of room to let your dog run on the beach without bothering anyone. I don't travel the land area of the state park much but I do see lots do people on horseback, hiking, or in Jeep's. We go there for the river and the bay. Our group of friends kayak and paddle board out there from time to time. We splash in at the boat launch. It's a parking lot maintained by the county with clean washrooms and a boat ramp. The fee is $4 cash. They don't have a pay machine like in some parks. But that's great as it keeps the cost down. We splash in and start paddling out toward the bay. This part is tidal so you need to keep an eye what the tides are doing and when. We like to catch the tail end of the outgoing tide before the slack to carry us out into the bay. Then we hit the beach on the north side of the bays conference. This part beach is really nice and not very busy most times we are out there. Sometimes there are crabbers waiting as they soak their pots. A few of us like to kayak the surf and we do this with the incoming tide. This allows us to make mistakes without being pulled out to sea. At low tide the breakers are way out there so we play in that secondary 2 to 3 foot surf. It's fun and if you dump it you are pushed into shore or up into the bay. Paddling back can be a windy experience with the incoming tide helping you along. That's if it has not been raining for the past week. On those days the river swells and is a constant outgoing current. Even then the bay has many shallow areas, especially the inside curves of the bends. Wildlife. Lots of wildlife here. I've seen eagles, great blue herons, outers, seals, crab, steelhead and much more. Pacific City is a nice little town as a gateway to costal outdoor adventures. They have a little bit of everything there. Food, lodging, shopping. It's not Portland, thank God. It's small, comfy, and friendly. But it can be crowded in the summer.

It doesn't get much more coastal than this region…read more We were really fortunate to visit the Oregon Coast in November on a clear Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Nothing but sunshine greeted us. No rain, fog or clouds dampened our road trip. The weather this week where we visited: Coos Bay, Florence, Newport, Yachats, Depoe Bay forecasted rain and wind with even a gale warning in some parts. The Oregon Coast is so beautiful! Thor's Well in Yachats at high tide was amazing to see. At low tide we saw some brave folks walk down towards the edge of that gaping hole. In Florence we descended down 208-ft in an elevator to the Sea Lion Caves... we didn't get a chance to see any sea lions at the time but the cave was cool to see. In Newport was where we saw sea lions bask and roll about at the docks just below Clearwater Restaurant and Port Dock One in Historic Bayfront. FREE! No matter the season, the Oregon Coast is a rejuvenating getaway. We enjoyed visiting the coastal cities, admiring lighthouses, making footprints in the sand, dining on the coast, checking out unique souvenir shops, seeing miles and miles of public coastline that continue to be free and public... captivated by the beauty of the mighty Pacific Ocean. We couldn't resist climbing the top of the giant steep sand dune, and I'm glad we made it! Stunning views of the ocean from the top, and it's fun to people watch too. Our dog made it too. Some ran back down, others skipped, some used sleds. It's fun either way! You'll be able to rinse your gear as you head to the parking lot. There's clean bathrooms and plenty of parking. Hungry? The trail is well marked and well maintained, with only one or two muddy areas which are easily navigated to avoid getting wet. I wasn't able to get close to Blumenthal Falls on the north end of Short Sand Beach due to the tide and waves, but I could see it from the end of the trail on the beach. It's on of the very few waterfalls in the PNW that cascades into the Pacific Ocean. Very pretty! The beach itself is very picturesque as it's located in a cove surrounded by mountains. Several benches are present to let you take it all in.

The trails go off in different directions with decent signage along the way. Let's be real, the Oregon coastline is gorgeous no matter where you decide to stop off, and Short Sand is no different. Two creeks emerge from the trees flowing onto the sands and into what feels like a huge "cove" with great waves (at least this day) and a lovely beach. Beautiful spot! I can see why it's so busy during most of the year, but it's sooo peaceful right now during the winter!

First off you need to understand that in my opinion this place is more designed for people that want to come and relax and have a peaceful stay. This is not a tourist spot, so there is no night life or things to see unless you drive 10 minutes to Lincoln City. I come here because I have a very stressful job and this place helps me unwind. This place appeals to me because it's quiet are there are not a lot of people around. This place is ideal for those that want to have a private beach and not have a bunch of people around. You practically have your own private beach. If you are looking for more things to do you can just pop into Lincoln City which is not far away. This place is for those that want to relax in peace and quiet. Keep that in mind when coming here.

If having a romantic weekend straight out of 1982 is your dream vacation, book!!! If not, avoid. I do believe each house is decorated/provisioned by the actual owners and not the property management team, as I did see other homes that were incredibly cute. This home, however, could use a massive update. Bathrooms were seriously laughable -- if you're over 5 feet and 90 pounds, good luck with fitting in the tub or shower! Hope you're also a fan of WEAK water pressure -- and the bedding (comforter) in the king room looked like it had been well marked by a dog. Sweet. I will say we had GREAT views from the family room and deck. Saw a TON of whales right from the family room. We kept plenty warm and cozy. I think it was way over priced for getting accommodations so extremely dated. Also, watch out for the rip tide. Watched people get rescued!
