It doesn't get much more coastal than this region We were really fortunate to visit the Oregon Coast in November on a clear Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Nothing but sunshine greeted us. No rain, fog or clouds dampened our road trip. The weather this week where we visited: Coos Bay, Florence, Newport, Yachats, Depoe Bay forecasted rain and wind with even a gale warning in some parts. The Oregon Coast is so beautiful! Thor's Well in Yachats at high tide was amazing to see. At low tide we saw some brave folks walk down towards the edge of that gaping hole. In Florence we descended down 208-ft in an elevator to the Sea Lion Caves... we didn't get a chance to see any sea lions at the time but the cave was cool to see. In Newport was where we saw sea lions bask and roll about at the docks just below Clearwater Restaurant and Port Dock One in Historic Bayfront. FREE! No matter the season, the Oregon Coast is a rejuvenating getaway. We enjoyed visiting the coastal cities, admiring lighthouses, making footprints in the sand, dining on the coast, checking out unique souvenir shops, seeing miles and miles of public coastline that continue to be free and public... captivated by the beauty of the mighty Pacific Ocean. Our family loves the Oregon Coast. We often stay at Rockaway Beach in the winter. This summer and the subject of this review is a summer mini vacation in Lincoln City! The weather was perfect, feels like we are about to go into fall. Definitely needed a jacket at times, but also was covered in sunscreen! As an aside, and I didn't get to this trip, but surf fishing along the coast is a lot of fun! Claiming in Nehalem is also a really fun activity. There's a few invasive species that allow for high clam limits, which lead to some amazing family meals!!! read more

First week of August and it's a typical day at the coast. Sunny a bit breezy but beautiful. Plenty to do around Lincoln City. There is a Casino, an aquarium 20 minutes south and several brewery's We stayed in a VRBO house across the street from the beach. 66 degrees but a long hoodie and shorts were fine. Lovely sand beach. Lots of jelly fish this time. Lots of food places to go but we wanted to relax. In the winter this city hides glass balls. A fun way to get people to come visit and storm watch. read more

There is 363 miles of Oregon's Coastline that remains free and public. This is a lot of area to enjoy things like whale watching, fishing, swimming, hiking and beach combing. We did as much of the coast as we could during our vacation but there is so much more to see. I recommend that you do some research and plan out your favorites before visiting. What can I say. The ocean! You would think that's enough to say but no. The Oregon Coast is awesome. Clean and clear. We came in the summer when the waves are mellow. We stayed a week falling asleep the the waves every night. I can never get enough. We we're fortunate enough to see seals and wales. The seagulls are no longer afraid of people. So beware. Oregon is a beautiful road trip. Tons of no charge beaches to visit and towns with walking potential. Port Orford south on 101 is spectacular but avoid an overnight here in P.O. as they allow trucks to use their auxiliary brakes for downhill (jake brakes, very very loud) thru town. Its a flat road , unnecessary, and will knock you up at 3:30 am as the hotels and restaurants are directly on the road this is rediculous. Goes on all day. Only route to take north and south. Not a problem on the rest of the 500 mile trip. Bandon great place to stay! Good Italian restaurant. read more

We stayed at an amazing beachfront airbnb right next to a walkway down to the beach. It was wonderful to view the waves as people watch! Loved the beach with rocks and tide pools. Something different. We walked one day in the beach until we hit a river on one side, and down the opposite way a little bit. It was almost at high tide though so we had to be conscious of that. Not much in the way of shells or interesting beach finds, although we did come across a large whale home right next to a wall of boulders. That was pretty cool and not something you see every day. During low tide we checked out the tide pools right down from 15th street but the main thins we saw were mussels. Great colorful bubble shots though! Lol. Nice different little breach though which we thoroughly enjoyed visiting! read more

While this review is "based" in Lincoln City, the Oregon Coast typically refers to the entire coastline, from its meeting the California border in the south to the mouth of the Columbia River in the north, forming the border with Washington state. I don't know the entire coast and neither do a lot of people. The reason is that, when coming up from California, most people stay inland and use I-5. Thus, most people know what of the Oregon Coast can be reached from Portland, and maybe from Eugene. The Oregon Coast probably inspired the resurgence of the inscription "Pacific Wonderland" on one of the options for an Oregon license plate. Too bad that plate isn't more colorful and distinctive. From what I know of the Oregon Coast, and what I've seen in photos of what I don't know of it, it is a dramatic, evocative, rugged, verdant, and quiet place. Here, evergreen studded promontories challenge the forceful Pacific Ocean crashing at their bases, or on adjacent long and desolate stretches of sand. Eery rocks crop out of the ocean, begging to be photographed. Picturesque fishing villages dot the coast and are the stuff paintings are made of. Each of the "major" towns I know - Newport, Lincoln City, Tillamook, Cannon Beach, and Astoria, among others - have different personalities, but each has the charm and relaxed pace common to Oregon Coast towns. While there is a shopping center or two in these towns with the names of known stores in these parts as well as fast food locations, they all seem to be less tacky for some reason. Instead, what one seems to notice is a lot of small businesses, casual eateries, nice view restaurants, lodging accommodations, and single family dwellings with wood siding or shingles and decorative features appropriate for a lush, quiet, and picturesque nautical setting sitting under gray skies most of the year. Here are some quick "triangle" trips from Portland which depend on the time of departure, traffic, season, and amount of sunlight on that given day: 1-a: Portland to Lincoln City using OR 99 and OR 18, Lincoln City to Tillamook on US 101, and Tillamook to Portland using OR 6 and US 26. 1-b: Same as above, except for a jaunt down to Newport and Yaquina from Lincoln City and back up on US 101 2: Portland to Lincoln City using OR 99 and OR 18, Lincoln City to Cannon Beach on US 101, and Cannon Beach to Portland using US 26. 3: Portland to Lincoln City using OR 99 and OR 18, Lincoln City to Astoria on US 101, and Astoria to Portland using US 30 and I-5. While the pictures uploaded with this review may not show Cannon Beach and Astoria, the former is known for iconic Haystack Rock, stores with crafted goods, and good restaurants and the latter, Astoria, is a historic town with a working port where a large cantilevered bridge crosses the mouth of the Columbia River into Washington state and Victorian homes are perched onto hillsides overlooking the port and the bridge. The only reason I'm not giving the Oregon Coast 5 stars is because, while it's beautiful, you really can't swim there owing to the water temperature and the treacherous surf. You can, however, take walks and hikes, look for shells, fly kites, and watch whales. Also, more of a problem on the southern Oregon Coast, is the fact that surfboards look like seals from below to those pesky predators that box office blockbusters are made about. Every handful of years or so, such a story makes the news. Some live to tell about it, and some don't. With that, the hotel pool and a gurgling hot jacuzzi are often great ways to end a cool or cold day on the Oregon Coast and wrap up this review. read more

I have driven every mile of Highway 101 in Oregon and it is a point of pride for me (and nearly all of 101 except for the portion between Quinault and Olympia in Washington State.) This is a truly spectacular route, and you get amazing views and many stops along the coast. I don't think there are any beach towns in Oregon that I hate; some are more popular for tourists, and I do prefer Southern Oregon because it is nowhere near as busy as the North Coast. However, if you stop anywhere along the coast you are in for a treat. Personally I like visiting the tide pools when they are low and getting some fresh seafood, and occasionally camping or staying in a hotel (especially in winter/spring when the rates are excellent.) There is hiking galore along the entire coast, and best of all; the beach is publically accessible throughout the entire state! This is unheard of in other places I have lived such as California, where private beaches are still a thing (though I've heard rumors of this practice going away.) If you want a great West Coast experience, I'd recommend driving up the entire California, Oregon and Washington coast. You will not regret it, and it is a very pleasurable experience. read more

Beautiful Nature and Good Times Exploring Beautiful views of forest and cliffs meeting the ocean line this entire state with a wonderful variety of scenery and short hikes through the trees down to little hidden beaches and coves where the works seems to disappear for a moment and let you unwind and recharge your human batteries. Little towns and villages all along the coast are filled with travelers escaping the cities and in vacations from who knows where. We heard people speaking German, Japanese and a few other indiscernible tongues in one restaurant alone. Parking along the roadways is pretty standard when you want to sneak down to another spot. The water isn't too warm so bring a wetsuit if you want to go for a snorkeling and even a dip probably. The water is pretty nice and clear though some time I may bring my free-diving gear and a wetsuit! read more

The Oregon coast is nice. OK I keep coming here, but I realize it has its flaw, it is home to cold water beaches, Be ware! And stay out of the water. But I am a native to Oregon and this is what I grew up with. Here is what I enjoy: Uncrowded sandy beaches, I love to watch the waves and the birds... if you are lucky there may be shells! Little beach towns, Shops you would avoid anywhere else, but get some saltwater taffy (New Port is my favorite beach town. It has a nice shopping area, and a lighthouse you can tour. Oh and the aquarium....) The views, I just got back, we drove 101 from Seaside to Lincoln City, We stopped a lot, lots of view points, and in Nehalem bay, sitting on one of the little islands was a pair of bald eagles! Its cold but the Oregon Coast is beautiful. Tidal Pools, Little pools of water left behind when the tide went out, I love looking for the animals left behind. If you are at the pools by Haystack rock you may get lucky enough to see puffins (but please give them their space)! Tillamook Cheese Factory free cheese samples and if it's not to cold they have great ice-cream! Tip before you go see if there are special events going on, for example Cannon beach has a sand castle competition but the downside is they bring crowds. read more

The coast is really big and there are a lot of hotels and places to go while visiting. Jumping in the ocean was really cold and you need a wet suit to really be able to do that. You can also surf and fly kites with ease on most days. If you live in the northwest it is worth checking out. read more

Absolutely loved the Oregon Coast, especially Cannon Beach. The beach is very scenic and perfect for strolling. The town itself is full of quaint galleries and shops. We stayed at Seaside for 2 nights and made a day trip to CB. Next summer, we will definitely stay at CB instead. Next stop was Lincoln City which we could have skipped. The 2 hour drive was not worth it unless you want to visit Chinook Winds Casino or the Tanger Outlets. read more

What is not to love about the Oregon Coast? Fresh air, fresh seafood, spectacular vistas, eagles, whales, seals, beachcombing, wonderful pubs, great restaurants and abundant peace and solitude. It is a beautiful home on a dead end street (very little traffic) with spectacular views! The master bedroom is like sleeping in a eagles nest. You can see forever. And you are a short stroll from the sand. Often such spectacular views come at the expense of being a long ways from the surf. Or being close, but the beach is inaccessible because of high cliffs. How can you give the Oregon Coast anything less than 5 stars? It's gorgeous and has everything to offer! Sure, it can be chilly, but that isn't the coast's fault, that's how the weather is. LOVED IT! We moved here from CA., in 2015. This is the first place i have been that everyone was so polite. At least the places we went to were very welcoming. Plenty to do with family, very affordable, customer service exceptional at casino and hotel. Lincoln City is 1000 times better than Seaside Oregon and long beach Washington. The second best would be Cannon Beach, much more expensive but still a great experience. read more

I am so fortunate to live in Lincoln City on the Oregon Coast. I get to live here while others flock here all year round but especially in the summer. There is so much to do here if you love the outdoors. We also have our Finders Keepers which means you can walk our seven miles of beach and look for treasures in the form of artistically crafted floats that are hidden on the beach. If you find one then you can keep as a souvenir. Our little town has over 60 restaurants, many hotels, dog boarding, kite stores, souvenir shops, book shops, an outlet mall, and antiques. We have crabbing, fishing, canoe and paddleboard rentals and of course... surfing. We have a local movie theatre plus stage productions that are really worth your while. We have a community center, a culinary center, and a cultural center. This is a fabulous place to come visit and I am so happy that while everyone else has to go home by Monday, I get to call this amazing place home. read more

Visited Lincoln City beach and walked a stretch of about 2 miles. Very flat stretch without interesting rocks or other objects, but was nice for walking. Dog friendly is also a plus. Not overcrowded. read more

We are prairie oysters from Canada who have travelled to the Oregon coast 4 times in the past 3 years. We absolutely love it! And our dog, who has travelled with us every time, loves it even more! So fantastic to find dog friendly beaches where nobody is uptight...space for all to enjoy! The fact that the water is too cold (for the most part) for swimming keeps the beaches less crowded...so scenic and atmospheric...beautiful! Not great for shopping, just enjoying the scenery, taking walks on the beach and relaxing! read more
