this store may be on sheepshead bay road, but it is NOT in sheepshead Bay. It is near West 8th St. in Coney Island, next to the elevated train and near the DMV. It is behind a drive in McDonalds,on Neptune Ave. which got there first and has a big parking lot. Netcost has NO parking lot and NO access to the McDonalds lot. so,if you go there,you will have to find a place to park on the street and pull up to the front entrance when you are done shopping.On the weekend, that is not easily done. the entrance is a nightmare. there are steel posts blocking the doors and a gate which must be opened to get your cart through. the sidewalk is totally broken up, very old and hasn't been repaved.But right next door, there is a new Health Club which paved its sidewalks when it opened. Netcost chose to leave their sidewalk alone. are they sending a message? to the right of the entrance is a barely paved roadway with delivery trucks filling it up,behind the store. you don't want to go there with your car. when you make it into the store entrance, you are greeted by a small lobby,filled with piles of bags of various fruits and produce, making it hard to actually get into the store. so, you push your way in, and are in a small,crowded produce market. Hispanic clerks are busy unloading veggies of all kinds into bins. Quality is good and prices are much less than a gourmet shop. but beware of rotten items,which remain out until replaced by a new delivery. the store itself is huge,once you get inside. many aisles are packed with east european candies,loose and in boxes. Only russian is on the labels. then there is a long refrigerated bin of more types of salamis,bologna,sausage,all wrapped and packaged. In the rear is a deli style counter with cheeses and meats to slice(by order). Most clerks speak little or no english but russian speaking customers from Brighton Beach and Coney Isand get all the attention.Prices are less than an american store but mostly imported from europe. there is some Boars Head but not much. there is a bakery with tasteless breads,packaged breads even worse,near the deli. if you want good bread in brooklyn,go to a jewish or italian bakery-there are still many of them, but NOT in brighton beach. Now,there is also a butcher with mostly pre-frozen meats,fresh chicken,including Bell-Evans and organic- expensive. there are items like duck,rabbit,stewing meats,gizzards,feet, which eastern europeans like in their soups and stews. first quality meats are not in this store but small Russian butchers in Brighton Beach have it. the small fish store is the loneliest place in town and I have never seen anyone buy a fish there. there is also a dairy with lots of imported items but also american dairy in limited varieties. this is not for americans but russians. prices for staples like milk and eggs are lower in price than anywhere else I have seen. then there is a russian style appetizing store, smoked fish of all kinds, prepared foods(take-out,pickles,cooked chickens etc. there is more than this- freezers packed with frozen ravioli,russian style, by the ton.all kinds of canned and boxed goods,all from eastern europe. if you are looking for american brands,forget it.i did see Hellmans Mayo,but watch out.They have a Mayo jar that is a copy of Hellmans and they do this whenever they can.who are they fooling? the checkout is small,aisles one on top of each other,outdated machines, a large TIP jar staring you in the face and just enough room to get out of there.weekdays are not crowded but weekends are a nightmare. for russians this is paradise. but mean looking guards are there to remind them who they are. read more

You must be careful... i do think they are marketing the smoked fish ''escolar'' for ''butterfish'' ... i bought a large piece thinking it was butterfish and got sick from it... had the runs and nausea and stomach pains. If they are calling escolar (which Japan banned this fish as toxic) as butterfish then they are deceiving us all , they should specify what the fish really is...same as white tuna sushi which is NOT tuna at all but escolar and if you eat more than 6oz you will get sick... read more

Very unprofessional staff no English at all is spoken in store. Do not go to deli counter for anything unless you can speak Russian. The whole store is a joke by the time you get your stuff there is a line out the door to pay! Prices are high people are rude. I used to grab lunch form here and some products on the way home from where I used to work. Their sushi is always fesh, and I love their selection of deli meats, and pickled products. The downside is that they dont have many english speaking employees, so if you dont know what something is you are out of luck. Then the buffet type meats all taste the same. Everything taste like dill. Buy some sushi, some cold cuts, bread and anything packaged. Other than that steer clear of the buffet section. read more

This is a beautiful, clean market. While I am not Russian, I speak a little to get by, and I found some rare kosher treasures to eat while in the area on an assignment (Flaum's salads, Sabra, Pikante salads from Israel, some Israeli wafers with Badatz, OU refrigerated cheese blintzes, in multiple flavors, Simply Brigitte cheeses, both brick and sliced, baked goods, and some other kosher items). The prepared foods looked delicious, but unfortunately, I could not try any, as the place is not kosher. The lines are very long during the evenings, but that's to be expected in any supermarket. This location has fresh fish, a bakery, and some other features not found in my local Net Cost store. read more

This Russian supermarket is hidden under the F train tracks and you can't even tell from the outside how huge it is (much bigger than the NCM on 65th St., for instance), possibly the flagship of the chain. Great selection of imported beers (including trappist ales), and solid produce, butcher and deli departments. Don't care for their baked goods - much better choices on BBA. There's also a vast salad bar section with hot and cold prepared food that I pass by since Russian cooking tends to be heavy and dull. Everyday prices are reasonable, frequent sales even better. As a result, it can get very crowded, with long and sometimes unruly lines. Customer service, at least in English, is nonexistent. Hope the place survives all the nearby construction. read more

This place keeps getting worse day by day. Their deli dpt is nasty. I have watched them drop meat and put it back on the selfs several times. The staff is very nasty. The preped food goes bad after just 2 days. I use to shop there every week and spend over $400 now I just but bread and eggs and only when I am to tierd to go some place else. read more

If you like expired food and throwing up all night you will love this market. I got some cookies as a gift for 60 purchase. The cookies turned out to be from 2010. Best way this store can think of rewarding customers is with expired cookies. Old salads with week old ingredients. Disgusting. This practice is common in all of the net cost locations. read more

I really like netcost market and variety of russian products they have, but the drive me really crazy with their prepared food. every time i am getting salads, mashed potatoe or whatever ready to eat stuff, next day its already spoiled and sour!!!! so i have to throw everything away. I want to share my opinion regarding prepared food, or "Culinaria" as it calls in Russia I used to come to the store often enough, cause I live literally across their door Sometimes I coming in the evening after 5 and next morning, I see the same trays of food, nothing change Once in a morning I came in and in front of me the kitchen cooks brought the food, which supposed to be hot, just from the stove They got the manner to put on a fish, meat and poultry food, some glaze to make it looks just like from the frying pan or oven, but instead you find out that food is cold and prepared good if yesterday, the Lula Kebabs I paid like $12 bucks went to the garbage can, this glaze does not make food more appealing Most of the "ready- to- eat" meat & fish products stay on a shelves like few days I think the hot food is overpriced, and they should reduce it in the evening hours to get rid of it They start to make grilled chicken parts, but it so salty you can not eat read more

In its own right, its a good store with a decent to excellent selection. I like their cured fish selection and especially the herrings. Some nice, store baked bread is on par with everything I have tasted especially the rye bread. Pickles OK but quite rushed and brine is not well developed to be called great. Overall clean with very nice and quite accessible beer selection. Products appear quite fresh due to turnover and greater display space that prevents the intermingling of odors that is quite common in other Russian stores. Staff, mostly imported legal or illegal immigrants and usually not very accommodating. Lack of professional staff is quite obvious in its treatment of customers, otherwise better than other Russian stores. Many baking products (especially pastries) are chancy and can go both ways on the quality scale due to lack of chain control and are farmed-out to outside bakeries - I guess the store-baked ones may be fresher.. Important to stay away from low turnover items due to reasons mentioned above. On the other hand, excellent imported products are much better than your average NY deli. Euro style bread is excellent and will beat most Manhattan bakeries on price and quality. Tea selection is large but too many lower quality tea bags in different packages with lack of real quality estate Darjeelings or bulk tea options for a knowledgeable consumer. There are better prices and some more interesting foods available in other Russian places but this one is better balanced and all under-one-roof convenience. read more
