Front entrance to Farmhouse and a sweet pizza oven!!! Riley will share his pizza making tips with you.

This was the perfect pnw island birthday getaway with my love! Who wouldn't love getting away to a Farmhouse tucked in the woods on a tiny island for some peaceful tranquility. The Nettles Farm is such a special place, upon arrival we were already excited to come back to this gem! Arriving during covid in the Fall, we were reassured as soon as we booked our reservation that they take additional precautions to clean the space and property, create group options that were social distanced, and provided an adjusted complimentary breakfast of all local ingredients of fresh bread, butter, bacon, yogurt, and eggs from the beautiful hens at the Farm. We had the large Farmhouse all to ourselves enjoying the spacious kitchen to cook meals, the most perfect little wood fireplace to relax and cozy up to, and found success trying out the pizza oven. This sweet farmhouse is also set up with the most awesome shower + steam room combo that was our evening ritual that provided the deepest sleep! There were a couple bottles of DoTerra essential oils provided in the shower to enhance your steam experience. Such a wonderful treat. There is also a beautifully newly built sauna on-site that we just didn't find the opportunity to use. Its a short jaunt from the farmhouse so be sure to bring a flashlight with you at dusk. We were lucky enough to plan our stay while there was a small-socially distanced Paella workshop with a Paella master, so we booked 2 spots for this amazing opportunity. We picked up some tips and tricks and had the most delicious paella dinner with incredible company. It felt like a dinner party with friends you've known for years! I didn't want the evening to end. Perfect way to start our 2 night stay. On our last evening at the farmhouse, we were lucky enough to experience truffle hunting in some back woods with Riley and Stella, the cutest and smartest farm pup, who did in fact find us a truffle for our pizza we planned to make that night. Was the best birthday treat!!! Thanks Stella! Riley was such a wonderful host, checking in throughout our stay, to ensure we were comfortable and had what we needed. Riley was also very responsive from the time we booked our reservation to our checkout. We are absolutely looking forward to our next stay to enjoy this quaint island gem again!

Betty has thought of virtually everything a traveler could need and guests get free reign of the upstairs during their stay. I love that Betty welcomes people to take home unfinished books from her library - "books are meant to be read, not sit on a shelf," she says. Breakfast was made at the prearranged time convenient for us (so appreciated!) and was delicious and abundant. She sat and chatted with us during breakfast and is so personable. We had to depart on a jet plane that afternoon after our 4-day trip to the Evergreen State and had a few bottles of wine that we hadn't enjoyed so I offered them to Betty and she even suggested she could take their value off our bill, although I refused because they were a gift to her for our lovely stay. Would be happy to return to Viewmont Manor if we ever find ourselves back in Bellingham!

Viewmont Manor is located at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac and her home is beautiful. You will wake up in the morning to fresh homemade berry scones and coffee, and Betty will prepare a delicious breakfast! We had hot eggs Benedict on delicate risotto cakes with asparagus on the side. This was served with Greek yogurt and granola, along with a cold glass of orange juice. Even though the food was to die for, the best part about Viewmont Manor was meeting Betty. She is the sweetest, most sincere Bed & Breakfast hostess that anyone could ask for. When you stay at Viewmont Manor you feel like a dear member of her family. I can't wait to come back to visit!

We rang the bell, looked around, called their number, but could not locate anyone. My wife and I decided to use the time to explore the island. Charles called, he had been out back doing yard work. When we arrived the second time, we were greeted by Charles with an apology and a tour. The home is tidy, eclectic and quirky. Our room was wonderful. Plenty of space, comfortable bed and charming. Another bonus of staying here was the breakfasts. The food is delicious and unexpected. I did not anticipate seared sushi grade tuna or oat pancakes that rival the best buttermilk pancakes. And the beauty of breakfast times is sitting with other guests along with Jill and Charles discussing everything from how it all began at the Kangaroo B&B to activities to do on the island. I have to say, with the exception of the amazing views from Mount Constitution, the water views from almost everywhere on the island and celebrating my wife, this B&B was a highlight of my trip.

Jill and Charles were attentive to our needs in all the right ways. I was there for a trail running race and have celiac and they took extra steps to make sure I had gluten free options for food. My husband had their normal breakfast and said it was amazing. He hates pancakes but said the ones they made were incredible. Additionally they were very friendly and inviting to an LGBTQ+ couple staying there which made me feel safe and welcome. I look forward to going back in the future!

Ahh, Whispering Firs. A tale of two sides, if there ever was one. My wife and I stayed here…read morerecently and had some very good experiences and thoughts...but also had some very negative things as well. We had originally booked two nights, but because of the negatives we ended up staying just the first night and checked-out early. Here's the tale of the tape: The Good: - Linda and Vic (the innkeepers) are very nice. Extremely friendly and easy to talk to, Linda made us feel at home straightaway and was great company and conversation during breakfast. - Speaking of, the food was really good. We had blueberry cream cheese pancakes, bacon, and scrambled eggs for breakfast. Along side juice, fruit, and coffee/tea. Linda was also very accommodating toward dietary concerns too. - The property and view is gorgeous! Located up on a mountain area, Whispering Firs overlooks the valley and you can even see the Sound and Whidbey Island. - The house itself is warm, comfortable, and inviting. There's a beautiful deck on the backside that it multi-tiered and has a walking path around little ponds. This would be great for entertaining and lounging. The Bad: - To get there, you have to drive up a half-mile gravel road that is full of potholes and bumps. It's narrow and not something that a regular car can navigate quickly. Wish we had a 4x4 vehicle. - The bed in our room (the North Suite) was way too high. It sounds weird to say that, but at roughly 3 feet high, it was a struggle for my 8 month pregnant wife to literally climb in and out of. - There were no curtains on the windows...just blinds that didn't block out all of the light and sight lines. So, there was a big lack of privacy seeing as the windows looked out onto the deck. - This room is located right next to the breakfast room, so it is extremely loud in the mornings. Breakfast is normally served at 8:30, but our morning had a group that wanted to eat at 7:00. That meant at 6:30 things got rolling on the other side of the wall and we heard it all. Neither Good nor Bad, Just Depends on You Point of View: - There is a large collection of stuffed animals (the taxidermy type) throughout the house and bedrooms. A hunter's paradise...so may not be up your alley. All in all, this could be a lovely place to stay; but it just didn't suite us and fit our needs. For someone else, it might be perfect. In this review, I'm simply wanting you to be better informed that I was. Hope it helps.

They have several units to choose from, but we chose the "Perch", which was the largest. It didn't disappoint! We didn't even use half the space! Currently, check-in is anytime after 2:00pm. We checked ourselves in and upon entering, found a spacious "home"! Divided by a set of stairs, there is a murphy bed (sleeps 2), bath & shower, dining area and full kitchen to the left. On the dining table was a lovely note addressed to us by the hosts Craig & Michelle, accompanied by a bottle of wine and a bowl of granola bars. Then, in the refrigerator, there was a nicely adjourned box nestled with yogurts, orange juice, hard boiled eggs, fresh fruit, a small bottle of Prosecco (for mimosas) and chocolate! We turned around and on the kitchen counter was a plate of local pastries! In the room on the other side of the stairs is another bedroom (sleeping 2-3), king bed, full bath and sitting area with coffee maker and coffee pods. Downstairs by the front door is a living room with TV, comfy couch & chair, wet bar, small fridge and washer/dryer! As everyone knows, with a home or business, there will always be times of repair and/or construction. Currently, the upper deck is being repaired, so we weren't able to take advantage of that. Instead, we took a long walk along the water, watched the eagles soar overhead, waved at people passing by and enjoyed the fresh sea air! Eating at local restaurants is always a plus and enjoying wine in the evenings watching the sun lower gently on the horizon out of sight made this trip, along with our fabulous hosts, Craig & Michelle, all worthwhile. Thank you for making our local getaway a special one!
