I tried Nettles after picking up a package at my local supermarket. I wanted to like this business and I am a fan of other regional brands, such as the fantastic Conecuh Sausage, based in Evergreen, Alabama. Unfortunately, I found this sausage to be at best mediocre. Maybe if this brand was on a BOGO (buy one, get one free), I might try it again (but probably not). I just found this sausage to be at best mediocre. There are also a lot of other great regional brands of sausage that are significantly better (at least in my opinion). I will give it three stars and that is being kind. read more

The food is good IF* you buy sausage products. Their cow products are average at best. We bought steaks there for a family gathers and they were tough as nails... before you say it's how we cooked them, we have steaks bi weekly and use the same methods as always and we're happy every other time. Their black pepper sausage is AMAZING, but steer clear of their steaks. Additionally they're a little over priced when compared to other butcher/farm stores like Fifth Generations Farms. read more

We love Nettles! Once a year, after the Clay County Fair we drive to Lake City just to go to Nettles to pick up our pork that was butchered here. We buy two hogs at the fair: one for our family and one to donate to the Arlington Food Bank. We have the hogs mostly processed into sausage but get ribs and pork butts too! Their sausage is delicious! They have smoked, hot smoked, breakfast and link breakfast sausage. They have great prices on beef and chicken too! We usually load up a cooler with a variety of meat for the freezer. If you don't want to drive to their Market and Butcher in Lake City Publix and Winn Dixie carry the smoked sausage! read more

Picked up a side of beef at Nettles this morning. Facility is clean and easy to find. They did mess up the order though. As we transferred the meat from our cooler to our freezer at home we noticed that a couple of items were missing. We had ordered the tongue and liver. In the big scheme of things it didn't matter much but it does make you wonder if the rest of the order was complete (did we get all of the meat we paid for). Since there is no way to count or weigh the order, you just have to trust that they packaged everything correctly. Stopped in the retail store before heading back. Decent prices and friendly staff. Since our coolers were full we did not buy anything there. read more

Nettles Sausage is a Lake City/north Florida institution, a family-owned company that for years has been making fine sausages and other pork products. Their sausage is some of the best I've ever had and is thankfully sold in many Publix grocery stores and smaller groceries in north-central Florida and beyond. They also sell it from their offices south of Lake City in the tiny community of Myrtis in rural Columbia County. Perhaps not the healthiest foodstuff out there, but mighty tasty and a good example of a local producer of food in an area historically known for such. read more

Absolutely the worst place to take and have a hog processed. My daughters first year raising a market hog for FFA and we were recommended to send her hog to Nettles for processing since the Fair was canceled due to COVID-19. We dropped off on April 16, 2020 and called May 8, 2020 to check on status of when we can pick up the meat (they were suppose to check and return my call yesterday but never made attempt to return my call) and the woman we spoke to was rude and cocky towards my daughter and pretty much told her it would be ready when it was ready. Would not give any idea as to when we can come pick up the meat. Next week will be a month and their excuse for the hold up was they ran out of sausage casings when in fact our order does not call for sausage! The woman told us that even though we didn't want sausage and the hog was pretty much ready to go, we can't pick up due to they need to sort everything out and that can take a while. I do not recommend anyone to send their hog for processing there! They do not care about the hard work that a FFA student put in and the fact that my daughter may loose her buyer now because of the long wait to pick up the meat! This is sad, they promote they care about FFA and support but that is obviously a lie. They are contributing to my daughters sale failing now and they don't care. When asked if I could speak to corporate offices or someone else I was told very rudely that I was speaking to them and that anyone else would tell me the same thing. Last week when we called to see when we could pick up we were told that the persons that dropped their hogs off on April 14th was able to pick up their hogs this past Monday, May 4th but they cannot give a date on when my daughter hog can be picked up and hers was dropped off two days later?! This has been nothing short of a nightmare dealing with these people. We will no longer be customers of Nettles and will recommend to go elsewhere for meats and processing to everyone in the FFA and 4H community! They don't care about the programs at all. At this point my daughter is pretty much loosing her sale. Thank you so much Nettles for ruining my daughters goals and wasting her hard work for this year! read more

Nettle sausage what can I say ,a Florida native over in Lake City that's where their main processing plant and retail store is located they have whole fresh pigs that you can do a luau with or just roast on spit in the front yard LOL. It's definitely worth the trip to see the store and the prices are much better there than they are in the grocery stores where nettles sausages is also sold but I think you should go to the actual store and it's such beautiful country right in the middle of North Florida and you can see the farm land all around it where the animals are raised until they are humanely slaughtered and packaged and sold in the retail store they also have beef and chicken .all locally raised and if you haven't been out to Lake City you need to go take a look it's a beautiful part of natural Florida. read more

Waited a while to post this to make rightly sure. First experience with nettles butcher service and my last. Took a 1 yo old pasture raised feeder pig over to them for processing because my other butchers were backed up for months. Aint new to the game of raising quality pork. Very disappointing that I did NOT get back my own pig. My pigs are pasture raised on a vegetarian diet only! Corn, acorns, oak leaves, random vegetables, berries, what they find on pasture and the woods. I got back some sweet feed pen fed, greasy pork that tasted like a damned soybean meal bag. Never again. Every butcher I've ever used has told me I have amazing pork and it shows when it turns out with a deep red to the meat and very little fat. The meat that was given to me was pink/white and slam full of fat/lard. I only pasture raise Hereford/Ole spot crosses for that deep red, just for that reason. Hate to leave a review this bad for a business but that just ain't right. read more

This is the type of sausage that accentuates the local flavors - especially the BBQ. It is one of my first purchases when I moved to G'ville a decade ago and have kept it by my side since. In fact I was given an early Christmas gift of a cooler full over Thanksgiving here in Colorado. It is the type of gift that one is always reminded of the hospitality of southerners every time it goes on the grill. Now if I could only get this type of gift monthly!
