We got sat immediately and loved the vibes. There isn't much around this area food wise, so it was nice to find somewhere to actually eat that wasn't a buffet. We got waters and alcoholic drinks quickly. The drinks were average at best, but we didn't mind. Our food came out quickly, but they weren't too busy, so it was great. Husband loved his French dip. Son liked his ribeye and fries, but it was really fatty. I liked my shrimp, but wish I knew how big they were going to be or I would have ordered the smaller portion. The only thing that kind of irked me was the waitress asked my son what dessert he wanted for his bday, and then they charged me for it. That was weird to me; I don't mind paying for desserts, but she gave vibes that it would be on the house. The peanut butter pie was not good either. My husband is still talking about the 3 porkchops for $17. We had an order grilled and one fried and we preferred the fried. The large portion sizes feed even my big guys. French fries were crispy. Such a great option for dining in Branford. For out of towners, this town/county is a bit lax on the covid safety so not many masks worn in the restaurant, but they have outdoor seating available which is what we opted for. Even as the only couple dining outside our waitress was prompt and attentive. The food was delicious and portions were gigantic. read more

Branford has been amazing over this birthday weekend. In this slightly depressing town. Everywhere we have been has been welcoming and outstanding. The website and photos do not do the interior of this place justice. It is smart, modern and low lighting. I thought we would be going to an upscale waffle house. It's so much more. Every item is great on the menu. You can tell the cooks are on point and care about the food they are serving. The wait staff was terrific , friendly and super attentive. Tip* get the garlic fry mash. It's gut sticking goodness. Perfect with a steak. Tip2* the cup of soup was amazing. It was a creamy chicken , veritable and perfectly seasoned. read more

There isn't much in my tiny hometown, but that doesn't mean this place isn't delicious by any standard! One of my favorite sandwiches that I am powerless to resist when I see it on most menus is a Reuben. In all of my travels, no one makes it as good as they do at The Branford Gathering. Something about it is just perfect. They load it up with corned beef and it's perfect in every way. I've eaten Reubens in some pretty fancy places that cost twice as much, but give me the sandwich here any day. It's that good! My side of choice is ALWAYS mashed potatoes and gravy. Is it made from scratch? I honestly cannot figure it out. All I know is there is something in there that makes me want to eat a vat of it. I can't help it. I'm addicted them. I may have a problem. I recently did switch it up from my trusty Reuben and ordered the lemon pepper chicken salad. Because here's the thing, this restaurant might have gone through some location and name changes over the years, but I have been eating that very salad since I was 13. I'm somewhere in my 30s now. It is still the same salad. And it is still amazing. Desserts change out and are all homemade. They can sometimes be hit or miss depending on what your dessert preferences are. Ok, so there's a bigger restaurant in town with a more prominent location that serves more pizza and pasta, but skip it and go to The Branford Gathering instead! Ate there twice in a row and it was AWESOME! Quick service and SO courteous. I know it sounds silly but those lemon pepper fish sticks were AMAZING! The Reuben, the patty melt and the desserts were totally on point too! Why is the cheesecake here SO delicious!?! Our server Andi was fast and friendly. This is a great spot for a nice meal! Wow a hidden gem! The servers were all friendly and the food hot, fresh, and tasty. The fried shrimp and Reuben were exceptional. You must try the red skinned grilled potatoes with onions. I have lived in this town since summer. There are two sit-down restaurants here. This is one. Been here several times. Today, a patron with an out-of-control kid. I did not speak to the woman; however, she came to my table, screaming, threatening. A few seconds later, manager in my face at my table demanding to know what was going on and why did the other woman come yelling at me. How would I know why other people do what they do? So, I was told to leave because the other woman with the screaming kid is a "regular." Manager accused me of going to other person's table; I did not. The atmosphere was nice, and my waitress was really nice. My girlfriend ordered the salmon, and also told the waitress that she had a dairy allergy and asked if they could not cook it with butter. The salmon was brought to the table, and looked great, but the food runner realized that the salmon was cooked in butter, and said she would get the kitchen to cook her another one. The waitress eventually brought out another plate with a fish on it, but it was Mahi, and undercooked Mahi at that. My girlfriend ate the part that wasn't undercooked and left the undercook piece alone. The color differences between the fish is a dead giveaway, never mind the taste. DISTINCTLY different fish. I tried the second fish myself, and I know was Mahi and not salmon because I hate salmon! (Ironic, given my last name.). When telling the waitress, she was kind, but it sounded like either the chef, or the manager, or the owner, was a real a**hole, and would not admit to their mistake. We notified the waitress that it was not salmon before she even put the plate on the table. Multiple times the waitress went back and talked to the kitchen staff, and each time came back and said "he said it's salmon, not Mahi". Either the kitchen staff has no idea about fish, which is possible being located out in the middle of nowhere, or they don't give a sh*t about their patrons, or both. Regardless, we asked at that point if they'd comp the fish because they screwed up the original order and then screwed up the second order with the wrong fish that was also way undercooked, and basically resulted in a f**king terrible experience, and they refused. I paid the bill, I tipped the waitress because she was sweet and I felt bad she has to work with such ignorant staff, but honestly, F these guys. I've never seen a restaurant staff be so stubborn while screwing up so badly. read more
