A hometown treat. My first-ever understanding of a mom-n-pop, Ed and Barb's has sustained its spot as a community staple for decades. As a kid it was always a treat to go through that drive through. Back in the day, Ed would rarely crack a smile in the drive-thru hahaha. If you know, you know. By the time you tasted the donuts you weren't thinking about that anymore! I saw a review commenting on the building's aesthetic being outdated. As a young person, I actually appreciate the aesthetic. I arrived around 11AM on a Saturday and there were quite a few donuts available. Also needed to use the restroom, but didn't see any signs so I decided not to ask and look for a gas station afterwards. There was a strange odor and the place is dated. The dozen assorted donuts set me back about $15. Donuts were alright. It sits somewhere between a DD and KK. KK is better IMO. read more

I like trying locally owned places when I travel so I googled and found this donut shop. I went around 10am and the place was dead. Only 1 lady working there, sitting and reading the paper. The inside was fairly run down but I'd already committed so decided to support the business. I ended up getting a dozen since it was only $10. The donuts were fresh. I could tell they had been recently made. The 2 varieties that had chocolate on them (chocolate iced and Bavarian ) both had a very odd flavor to the dough. I could not place what it was but none of the others had this odd flavor. It was more chemical tasting that it was a spice or flavoring so I've opted not to eat the others. The donuts are rather small compared to most other donut shops so even at $10, not sure the pricing was worth it. Been there, done that, don't need to go again. read more

Let me say that I don't leave reviews. Ed and Barb Cream Donuts is the review exception. My family was on our first day of a long trip and I wanted to support a local donut shop for breakfast early on a Friday morning while passing along Interstate 75. I saw 1 glowing review and 1 poor review for Ed and Barb Cream Donuts but both reviews were years old. We pull into a run-down business on an old side of Lake city. I've had great food at old places so I did not discount it yet. We ordered 6 chocolate covered donuts, 1 twist, 2 blueberry, and 3 cups of milk. The bill was $29! They only had enough milk to pour 1 glass of milk so we got reimbursed $6. I had to use the restroom and I was given a key and an update that the homeless break into the bathroom and rip the toilet from the wall. The bathroom was the only thing worse than the donuts which I will get back to in a moment. I get back from the bathroom to find that the chocolate covered donuts look "squishy". My family warns me that they don't taste "right". I take one bite before the taste hits my tongue, another bite as the flavor begins to register, the third bite was a reality check that I was eating the worst donut ever created. I threw everything still in the box away. I never would have dreamed that a donut could taste so bad. I belched those 3 bites of donut for the next few hours. This is something my family will joke about for years to come. As we are leaving, my husband notices the next business sign advertising "Fu King Chinese". The bathroom, by the way, had a pile of large dead cockroach's in the corner, the toilet moved around as stated, and it smelled very weird/bad. An old cigarette butt on the floor. Brightly Colored Pool noodles zip tied to every piece of exposed plumbing. I could tell that the bathroom was a casualty of the nearby homeless as the owner tried to fancy up the soap dispenser and hand towels with automatic dispensers. Nothing could help this place. I feel bad for this old business, and the people working there. I saw an older lady walking her young grandson in and I immediately felt bad for them as well as we left in disbelief. read more

We stopped by Ed and Barb Cream Donuts to try a local Donut Shop in Lake City. The "Mom and Pop" place was small and really meant for ordering and taking out. All of their donuts were made that morning and they had different varieties to choose. We were a little disappointed they did not have any blueberry cake donuts during our visit to try. We left with a Mix box of Donuts (Glazed, Oreo, Peanut Butter, Chocolate Frosted, Boston Cream). Far and away below Krispy Kreme standards of taste, quality, and overall ratings including service and building aesthetics. No effort of a clear online menu of selection of products/prices. All you have for drive-through selection is a poorly-written, barely legible sign taped to the right of the window with selection and pricing. Last visit two hours before close they were already out of my selection. Since this business has no viable competition in Lake City (forget it Dunkin), they would be so much more successful with investing in external and internal improvements, including expanding and upgrading their menu. Yes! They are open! Nov 14 2018. 5am to Noon Sun-Sat, plus drive-thru Fresh glazed donut, fair-sized (larger than bite-sized, not huge) filled donuts. Great tasting chocolate frosting, and the filled donuts are double-filled. Had a delicious blueberry cream and peanut butter cream. Recommend giving them the business. We went in late and expected quantities to be limited. They were. However, they offered to make whatever filled doughnuts we wanted and we took them up on this offer. We got a dozen to go plus an apple fritter and a cinnamon twist . All were awesome. This is a doughut shop. Not a doughnut, bagel, breakfast sandwich, and lunch joint. Delicious Cinnamon Twist Ed & Barb's is open Thursday - Tuesday and only until noon. We drive through Lake City periodically but never seemed to make it before noon. This time we barely did and we were very pleasantly surprised. There are lots of comments in other reviews about the staff's negative attitudes. The lady behind the counter (I don't think it was Barb) was slow to smile. But once she did she was kind and helpful. Ed buzzed around the back with a frown but we had no occasion to interact with him. The building is a bit of a wreck with junk for sale (a rusted fridge for $50!) around the edge of the sitting area. And the bathrooms have seen better days (or maybe years). In any case, we came for the donuts. Since we got there just a few minutes before their 12:00noon closing, the selection was limited to what was left. As a matter of fact, they will close before noon if they run out. So, unfortunately, we couldn't try their popular apple fritter. Instead we got the cinnamon twist which they warmed up. It was delicious. The prices are very reasonable. I would definitely return--if we can just manage to get their before they close! read more

People don't understand, Mr.Ed suffers from PTSD and use to get up at 12:00 to go to work and make donuts for the store. He would always give the extra donuts to the food pantry or churches to feed the homeless. He also supplied free donuts to veterans and supported our local law enforcement officers and also, donated to charities. He was extremely involved in the community and cared about the people in our town. He may have had a bad attitude, but at heart he was a good person. Now that he gave the store to his son and wife. It has improved, and the donuts are still amazing! They kept the same recipes and added some new ones also. The strawberry cream cheese donut is my absolute favorite! When I'm in Lake City next, I may buy 2 dozen donuts and stuff my face to tide me until year! read more

One visit so far, to pick up a couple dozen assorted for my office. The doughnuts were delicious and not expensive. The place is open from 0500-1200, per the owner. Don't be turned off by the appearance of the place and employees. It's a good shop. Do ask them to pack your dozen flat in a larger box. I should have. read more
