I have been a patient for three years and loved all of the professionals involved in my care until Friday, June 19th, which is when I met Denisha (office manager). even though I was sick and had gotten an emergency appointment, I had to leave without being seen by the nurse practitioner. Denisha insisted I must pay $35 for the appointment even though my copay was $25. She refused to look at my policy which I pulled up on my phone. She refused to look at my previous appointments where I paid $25.00. She refused to call Humana to confirm my copay and she refused to accept $25 with a promise to pay the additional $10.00 if I was wrong. I was forced to leave because I refused to pay $35.00. I have gotten a referral from my PCP for an alternate facility. I am still dumbfounded as to why this woman didn't care enough to help me. She did call me today to tell me I was correct - but it is too late now. I should add that I recently had to pay $1000 for a treatment that should have cost me only $500 because of another employee who called in my Botox Migraine prescription to an expensive pharmacy instead of telling me I had a choice of pharmacies and that Walgreens would have only charged me $500. I guess some people truly believe it is okay to take advantage of seniors who live on pensions and Social Security. read more

I've tried to call the office for an appointment for my husband. Tried for a month, everyday of each week. Left several messages, never a call back from anyone. Had to actually drive to the office twice to get appt. I would suggest hiring someone to just do callbacks. Do the Drs know how bad this makes them look? I don't care how good you are , this is called curtesy. Dr Scott has been his Dr for several years now and we've probably seen him 3 times. Never a blood test to check on the meds he's prescribed. All I can say is thank God for Dr Nigam. Her kindness, compassion and professionalism were very much appreciated during my daughter's time of need. We did not know what was wrong with her to cause what happened. Due to the heightened anxiety and concerning situation, Dr. Nigam calmed the situation down and gave her very best care and made my daughter feel so much more at ease, so that the situation could be addressed. All I can say is if God forbid you have something happen that warrants you to have to see a Neurologist, I would definitely recommend seeing Dr Nigam. Her expertise in this field is second to none. We have been coming to this practice for over a year and the only time we actually saw a neurologist was on the first visit. All others were with a nurse or PA This is totally unacceptable if you are looking to be treated in person by an actual neurologist It also takes 2+ days to get phone calls returned. I would imagine insurance is paying the rate to be seen by an actual neurologist In my opinion this a very poorly managed office The nurses and PAs are very nice and knowledgeable but that is not why we choose this practice read more

Wait time was only 20 minutes. The receptionist and assistant to Dr. Tina Nigam were both friendly and professional. Was very concerned with my MRI results. She explained same in layman terms, was a great listener and answered all of my questions. Dr. Nigam offered excellent solutions. The other employee who rescheduled my follow up appointment was also courteous and efficient. I left feeling much better than when before said appointment. After waiting over two months for an appointment with Dr. Scott, Katrina left us a message two hours prior and canceled because he had to go to the hospital for a call. She instructed us to call back to be rescheduled, which I did immediately and countless times thereafter. I even called at noon one time, hoping someone other than Katrina would get the message. It's now FOUR WEEKS later, and no one has bothered to get back with us. If the doctors are as bad as their office staff, I'm glad they dissed me. Might have saved my life! Abusive to their patients and mouthy with zero and I mean zero customer service. Their customer service has died of a stroke. P I had an appt since nov 2022 for mar of 2023 and now I can't get in until July. Staff issues and doctor going on vacation for a month. I asked if I could speak to the doctor and I was told he would never ever return a patients call! Kudos doc McDonald! You send in your PA anyway. It's not the doctor I have an issue with, but his assistant. I needed preapproval for a med that I've been taking for decades. His assistant claimed she had called Cigna and couldn't get the preapproval taken care of. I then called Cigna to see if there was something I could do. They said all that was needed was a VERBAL preapproval. Sounds easy, right? After at least two dozen messages, I still don't have preapproval. I know this is the office's fault because I called my gp to fill another med that the assistant said she couldn't get approval for. The gp's office got my approval within 2 hours when Dr. McDonald's office claimed they couldn't get approval after 6 months. The worst experience I've ever had at a doctor's office. read more

I asked for a prior authorisation one month ago, followed up when my husband had an appointment 2 weeks ago and they said they were "working" on it. Now, the day before I am leaving for a long vacation they are only getting around to getting it done. I have left messages for the past 5 days and only got a call back today. Dr. Scott is a well known neurologist in Volusia county. The Ormond Beach Office is NOT on Sternhouse as Yelp has it listed it is on Mirror lake drive. The office is nice and spacious with friendly staff. Big waiting room with information TV on but free WiFi to do other things on your phone. I needed a nerve conduction study and chose Dr. Scott. He did a great job and let me know when parts of the test were going to be painful. All went well and the visit was over with an immediate answer. read more

I agree with the other reviews for the facility on 8 Mirror Lake Dr. They are very slow in the office, waiting for the doctor and checking out is a nightmare. This man saved my dad's life. I'm not exaggerating. He recognized a rare illness that even Mayo couldn't help with. Because of his early recognition my dad's medicine was stopped immediately saving his life. Thank you Dr from the bottom of my heart. i was recommended here highly after just moving to florida with no neurologist nearby. it took me over 6 months to see the doctor i was suggested, everytime i called to see if someone canceled an appointment that i could take they would say the dr either took the day off or was working at the hospital. this would usually happen several times throughout the week. & then when i would get the chance to finally see him, last minute it would change to his assistant instead. thats happened probably 3-5 times since i started going to this place & everytime its a different assistant so its always a game of catch up from the one before. & don't even get me started on the checkout ladies there's one in particular who is very rude i don't remember her name unfortunately but she was blonde & older woman who was taking personal calls with her kids while i was waiting in her chair to be checked out. then as i greeted her she demands my total balance immediately, & when i tell her i can't afford to pay that today she decides to announce it to every other working lady beside her. i just have not had one single good experience here its always something. read more

Dr. Garewal seems like a nice enough guy but my God this is the worst run doctor's office I have ever had to deal with. The office staff is unhelpful at best and outright hostile at worst. Even a basic check up appointment will end up costing you 2+ hours of your life. My last straw was I had a 9am appointment on the books for months and I get a call the day before the appointment telling me Dr. Garewal never does 9am appointments and I need to reschedule. Do not go hear. Family member had a lesion on the brain that was discovered as the result of a CT/MRI scan. Referred here by PCP and as soon as the word car accident was uttered they couldn't get us out the door fast enough with a referral to another neurologist. So 400 bucks to get no info and a referral to another doctor because they don't do car accidents. I know why now cause they don't know what they are doing. Very disappointed that we have to wait another few weeks to get information on what this is. They should focus on patient care and not risk aversion. read more

Wow! I am stunned to see all these complaints!!! I took my mother to see Dr. Garewal for 4 years. He was absolutely marvelous. Such an awesome doctor. We did have to wait from time to time, but that's normal. My mother has Alzheimer's and he was an excellent doctor referred to me by others in Ormond Beach. She is now in a nursing home, and now I'm a patient of Dr. Garewal. I LOVE him, he spends time with me, answers all my questions and is super kind. The staff in the office couldn't be friendlier. Have been helping my parents w/ medical appts and office visits for several years now. Last year and beginning of this year they both needed neurological treatment, one for spasms/seizures and one bec of a stroke. Due to their insurance, they have limited options on neurologists and Garewal had good reviews online so we went with him. In a total of six visits to the office, we saw Garewal exactly one time. The other visits were with Gilliland, the PA, who seemed competent and reasonably thorough, but also rather rushed. (He has since left Neurology Associates, to be replaced by nurse practitioners.) Two of the six visits were for tests so we didn't expect to see anyone but the testing nurse on those visits. If you're coming here expecting to see an actual neurologist, forget it. And you can forget timely appointments for established patients--wait times to see the PA were booking 2-3 months out when we terminated our association with NA. The office staff, by and large, are disinterested, often incompetent, and sometimes downright rude. There appears to be very little communication between the medical personnel and the administrative staff. A few seem to have consistent attitude problems. Even the ppl collecting the co-pays were rude at times. There is a line of computer stations w/ ppl collecting the fees as you leave. You wait for the first available "cashier". On one visit, I went to the next available; I was the last person in line. She told me no, she wanted to leave, go to Cashier #2. I waited for the second cashier. She also said, no, try Cashier 3. (Cashier 2 had been sitting reading something that looked more like a magazine than any business document.) Finally, Cashier #3 agreed to take the check. At one point, our PCP's office was waiting for NA to fax them some test results (this was late in the game and we wanted a referral to a different neurologist). For 6 weeks, every week, we persevered in contacting NA (no small feat, considering how hard it is to get someone to answer the phone, get the correct dept, not get cut off or hang up after 5-10 min hold on the phone). Finally, my mother and sister had to go down to NA to pick them up, refusing to leave until they had the paperwork in their hands and hand delivered it to the PCP's office. No apologies, nothing, from NA for that ridiculous hassle. We found out later that NA office staff had originally mistakenly sent the info to a cardiologist, but that doesn't explain why the initial error was never corrected over the 6 week time frame, with us and our PCP's office inquiring every week. Twice the scheduling staff have canceled our appointments but didn't even tell us. We showed up for the appointment and were brusquely told we had "missed" our appointment. But we had the handwritten appt card from the previous visit; we were there when we were supposed to be, but they had canceled on us and never informed us. The second time that happened, I discovered their change only bec I had to take my father in earlier that same day and when I mentioned my mother's appointment, they said there was nothing on the books. My mother had been having "spasms" that were growing increasingly worse, to the point of affecting the entire left side of her body, making it difficult for her to walk. A couple days prior to that 2nd cancelled appointment, I had taken her to the ER because the "spasm" was so severe her head was aching and she couldn't walk straight. I thought she was having a stroke. The ER ruled out stroke, but told us to follow up w/ our neurologist. If only we could! She was an established patient at Garewal's office by that time, and although I was frustrated with NA already, it would be 8 wks before she could see another neurologist as a new patient, and she was having these spasms daily. So I called and after persistently trying, finally managed to speak to someone on the phone. Explained the situation. They said no one could see her until 6 weeks later. Unacceptable, given the urgent need for attention. After asking for a nurse and refusing their excuses, they finally agreed to see her the next afternoon. I was relieved and showed up the following morning for my father's testing appointment. At which time I tried to confirm my mother's appointment. They had no record of it. So back to square one with having to convince them that she must be seen that day and that they, once again, were in error. No one at Garewal's office ever even acknowledged any of their mistakes. Only once did we ever receive any info (test results) from them calling us. It was 6 weeks after my father's testing that I finally called them to ask what the next step was for his treatment. Dr. McDonald may in fact know a lot about neurology, but you will die before you find out. This office is terrible. They never call you back, and we had to blockade the exam room door with my dad's wheelchair to get the doctor to stay long enough to answer any questions. The last straw (of many) was when it took them a month to process and read my father's EEG, and then they got the prescription change wrong. I'm not sure if they actually read their files. I will be filing a complaint with the state medical board. If you are referred here, tear it up and find another neurologist. read more

Worst medical office I have ever been to. Dr. ordered 9 different tests from CT scans, MRI's to "In House " tests. NEVER reviewed results with me. Showed up at wrap-up meeting with no notes or paperwork. Additionally, I was misdiagnosed with a blocked carotid artery!!! Extremely poor follow-up and communication here. Went to the Mayo Clinic for clarification. Called several times to speak with the manager in charge of the office; no return call. This office does not want to deal with any issues. On Tuesday Nov 27, I had an apt scheduled for 12:15 with Dr. Fulop. I arrived there at 11:45 and Sat until 12:07 when I was called up to the office and told that Dr. Fulop was not in and asked if someone had called me. I responded, "if someone had called, would I be here?" The receptionist proceeded to ask me if I could return on Thur. at 2:15. I agreed and asked to see the office manager. Her quick response was, "she is in a meeting." So I left and drove home. I called back to ask to speak with the office manager again and she said, " I will have to put you on hold." Then she returned 3 minutes later to tell me that, "she has left the office for the day." WHAT KIND OF OFFICE STAFF IS THIS? NO ONE BOTHERED TO CALL ME TO TELL ME AND I DROVE FROM PALM COAST. I FULLY INTEND TO TALK TO DR. FULOP ABOUT IT WHEN I SEE HER ON THURSDAY. WHEN MY INSURANCE SENDS ME PAPERWORK ON HOW I LIKED THE DOCTOR, I WILL TELL THEM ABOUT THE OFFICE STAFF. i have been to this facility three times and had horrible experiences all three times, i would have gone somewhere else but i need a referal from my primary which i thought would be a pain but should have just done that, first the wait to see the doctors is over an hour wait everytime you make an appt you should be seen somewhat close to your appt time, and if there running behind it would be courteous to let you know, and all of the office staff especially a woman named tammy i always have to call at least 5 or 6 times before i bget a hold of anyone, and its pointless to leave a message they never respond, i would NOT recommend this facility to anyone read more

I had an appointment this morning, arrived 30 minutes early. Now on Friday they called me to confirm the appointment. Well, they decided that they don't accept my insurance. Someone called me Friday and told me this. After giving me back my papers, the two people at the reception desk just stood there looking stupid !!! I would not go to this office if they were the last neurologists available. The office staff is downright RUDE. Being able to speak to someone else in the office does not work. WORST run doctors office in Volusia and Flagler counties.. My doctor faxed over a referral on 4/16/2013 to this Neurology group. Never heard back from them, so 4 days later, tried calling this office. The phone just rang off the hook, no one answering it and even drove down to this office to make an appointment in person. Was told, I COULD NOT make an appointment and they would call me. They took a photo copy of my referral and promised I would get a call within a few days. Well, it is now over 3 weeks since the first referral was faxed to this group and just called them and they have no record of receiving it. I would rather drive from Ormond Beach to Daytona Beach to see a neurologist, as if these doctors are anyway like their office staff - they are pathetic.. read more

I liked the doctor but the staff is the worst I have ever encountered. It is inexcusable for a phone in a doctor's office to ring more than 6 times before someone answers. Once answered I was put on hold until I finally hung up. One of my appointments was cancelled because the doctor couldn't make it and I got a message that someone would call me to reschedule. That was a week ago and I still have not received a call. On another occasion, I phoned because I had a question about my prescription and was told that they would check with the doctor and call me back. They never did. I only gave Neurology Associates of Ormond 1 star simply because there isn't anything lower. An ischemic neuropathy took my vision in my right eye and only by luck did I learn in was starting in my left eye. I saw my ophthalmologist, then was sent to my retinologist, and from there to a neurologist, Neurology Associates of Ormond.I had a series of tests and I was never told of the results by anyone. I even called THREE times to NAO to get the results for my last procedure, a spinal tap.I also included in these calls a request to schedule an appointment for my increased Parkinson's tremors, and to ask more questions concerning DBS, a type of brain surgery for the Parkinson"s which was recommended by NAO. Over the course of 6 weeks I never received a promised return call concerning any of these issues. I understand the doctors at NAO are good. I only met with the PA who was very competent. The office staff is another story. I don't know who is responsible for ignoring my requests which have a direct affect on my conditions, but I know one thing. They should be working somewhere else ,and not given the responsibility of helping and caring for patients. read more

This is the worst run doctor's office I have ever experienced. It took 5 days for them to receive referral (therefore, they wouldn't make an appt) even though my G.P. sent it the first day. I finally got an appointment Friday going into the holiday weekend. The doctor office never called in my pain prescription for my pinched nerve and the on call physician is not allowed by Florida law to call in pain meds. Horrible patient care! This place is toxic. Stay as far away as you possible can. The environment will burn out any light you had left in your soul. The manager will try and suck you in with free lunches (that reps bring) and insurance the doctors pay for. It sounds nice but they hold it over your head and that is why you don't get raises. And since the mangers knew for a week I was leaving they never once came talked to me or tried to find out the reason why I was leaving. In my short time of being there the amount of turn over this office has is crazy. The doctors have no idea how toxic the office is. The phones ring off the hook and since we are spread so thin there is no time to do real work. The office manger rather everyone do faxes then real patient care. I feel bad for the patients and the fact they keep getting new ones without properly taking care of the original one is disgusting. The equipment that we are giving to work with never works, and is completely outdated. As a co-worker once said they want A work on F equipment. Do not, and I repeat do not go to this office if you are an MS patient. Dr MacDonald decided that I did not have MS after having been diagnosed at the Yale, New Haven, MS clinic 15 years ago, My MS Dr., an associate professor of neurology at Yale has his own MS clinic and is one of the top MS specialists in the country. He has no doubt that I have MS. This Doctor had to have help in order to work the computer screen. He asked who had signed the last read out of my MRI (a pathologist) if I was right handed and did I snore. One of his statements really caught me by surprise: "You sure have been treated aggressively for MS but I don't think you have it, did your spinal tap show positive for MS. That was when I new I was in the wrong place. He got up from his chair and said you should see another Dr.----- as he has more MS patients in this practice. He then marched me down the hall only to find that the individual who makes appointments was out to lunch and would call later in the afternoon - no call. Whow!!!, I wouldn't go back to this practice if you paid me. I will be calling the National MS Society, The state of Florida MS society and anyone else I can to warn MS patients about this man. read more
