The doctor stated my husband needed another MRI, but it was never scheduled, and when my husband called multiple times to ask about it, those calls were never returned. On top of that, the doctor consistently neglected to fill out the required insurance forms for short-term disability benefits, creating enormous stress during an already difficult time. Even worse, when finally pressed, the doctor misrepresented what had been said to my husband when communicating with the insurance company. The lack of responsiveness, accountability, and honesty has been devastating for us. Patients deserve care, attention, and truthfulness--none of which we received here. We are filing a state medical board complaint but wanted to warn others while they investigate this "doctor."

This was after three days of trying to reach someone to confirm the location -- and being told by their voicemail not to leave more than one message. No one ever called me back. When I finally reached someone after leaving the Ormond office, she said she would contact Orange City and call me right back. That call never came either. I drove to the second location on my own, only to be told I could not be seen and would need to make yet another appointment. By then, I had wasted half my day, two unnecessary trips, and my own gas because of their complete lack of communication and coordination. No patient should have to deal with this level of disorganization. My time has value, and I fully expect the doctor to pay the invoice I submitted for the time, mileage, and inconvenience caused by their repeated mistakes. This office needs serious internal fixes before more patients are affected.

Denisha insisted I must pay $35 for the appointment even though my copay was $25. She refused to look at my policy which I pulled up on my phone. She refused to look at my previous appointments where I paid $25.00. She refused to call Humana to confirm my copay and she refused to accept $25 with a promise to pay the additional $10.00 if I was wrong. I was forced to leave because I refused to pay $35.00. I have gotten a referral from my PCP for an alternate facility. I am still dumbfounded as to why this woman didn't care enough to help me. She did call me today to tell me I was correct - but it is too late now. I should add that I recently had to pay $1000 for a treatment that should have cost me only $500 because of another employee who called in my Botox Migraine prescription to an expensive pharmacy instead of telling me I had a choice of pharmacies and that Walgreens would have only charged me $500. I guess some people truly believe it is okay to take advantage of seniors who live on pensions and Social Security.

Being very well-versed on my insurance I disagreed with him and told him I would call my insurance and get back to him. I called my insurance and they stated absolutely it IS covered. This is the benefit. This is what you will pay. I tried to call back for four days, only to be told over and over again from a woman who I could barely understand, and could barely understand me, that she would pass my information along, yet she never asked for my name or phone number. I always had to ask her if she wanted it. Finally called insurance and the office on a three-way call only for Alex to tell my insurance company that the reason they will not take my insurance is because the insurance company has not paid them in the past. So it had nothing to do with my insurance not covering it, my insurance explained to him that he needed to take that up with provider services, and not take it out on the patients. then I tried to call to speak with an office manager to explain that I did not appreciate being lied to by their employee, and that my insurance does cover the sleep study. I then found out that he actually never even called my insurance, to get any of the information he just assumed that they would not pay even though they are contracted with them. It does not matter how wonderful the doctor is if his office staff is this miserable and awful it makes for the entire office to be awful. Trying to get a hold of someone or get them to call you back is impossible!! Don't waste your time!!

On Monday evening, I arrived to ER at my PCP's urgent urging. They quickly processed me through, gave me my bloodwork and imaging. The waiting room was packed. One man spent hours crying out with abdominal pain. Another crazy had a few outbursts requiring security. I lost track of time watching elderly patients going unattended. I saw no less than three patients leave in desperation. Somewhere between 8 and 10 hours later, with no contact by medical staff to let me know what was going on, I was finally given a room in the ER. I can't be certain about the times, but I got settled around 3:00 or 4:00 in the morning and spent the rest of the night listening to a blind elderly woman screaming from her gurney in the hallway outside my room. I may have slept an hour before a staff member burst in and turned on the overhead lights to take my blood pressure again. In the morning following doctors visits they told me they'd found a room. I was rolled down the hall to what I call a tent room. The hall was a loud pass through with loud traffic and desks and noisy machinery rolling by. At my own home I had been sleeping on and off during the day. This new accommodation would keep me awake all day and into the night until I was too tired and slept until the nurses' station staff were laughing and telling stories throughout the night. While the doctors and nurses and professional staff were attentive and knowledgable, if you're looking for a hygienic, quiet repose, don't come here! (PS I am getting better though)

My husband and I were well established within the Advent Health system for a number of years but we…read morehad had two previous primary care physicians leave their practices rather abruptly. It hadn't been easy finding another primary care practice within the Advent system, but we had. We had found a physician we really liked in a very good family practice group located in the medical offices of the Advent Health Daytona Beach hospital. We felt we were being well cared for there, until we suddenly weren't. At our last routine office visits we were told when we checked out that the practice, of four physicians, was being closed! We had been scheduled well ahead for our upcoming routine office visits and of course those visits were cancelled. What we received was a cryptic form letter with the names of four nurse practitioners in case we were in need of future care. While we don't mind being seen by a nurse practitioner occasionally, and preferably for a specific problem, we want to be seen by an MD for our regular ongoing care. A bit shocked by this sudden and unexpected news and disappointed that we had not been told by our physician after our exams, we felt compelled to ask some pretty pointed questions. Our inquiries were met with what we felt were believable answers. The practice closure appears to have been a management decision and it had been decided that the physicians were not to personally impart this news to patients directly. Instead, that unwelcome news was shifted to the clerical staff, which frankly seemed to us to be quite unfair. Our two previous physicians, who had also left the Advent system, had given us the courtesy of personally sharing the unpleasant news of our needing to find a new doctor, so we asked why this time we hadn't been afforded this courtesy. It apparently wasn't our physician's choice, it was a directive. (But by whom?) A perusal of the current Advent Health website of primary care MD's accepting new patients shows we've pretty much been left with very few, if any, choices. And, the unwelcome result is that our scheduled routine medical care is also set back by months and neither of us is "Feeling Whole" as advertised.

They got him moved as soon as another bed was available. We were both in Halifax after a very serious car accident, leaving him with broken ribs and me with neck fracture and lumbar spine fracture. We went into Brooks rehab after our hospital stay, and that was very good also. Our one main concern was that my husband was without pain meds and food/water for an extended amount of time because they kept saying he was going for a specific MRI (for gallbladder and pancreatitis), but they never showed up until the next day. He was in serious pain, even sweating due to pain, so I was very upset by this. Alex and Brittney, on 7th floor were WONDERFUL nurses! A young Black woman in her mid-20s reportedly presented to the ER in a sickle cell pain crisis and was met with what appeared to be condescension, patronizing language, and dismissal of her pain. Sickle cell disease is a genetic blood disorder that disproportionately affects African American patients and is well known in medicine for causing severe, excruciating pain crises due to blocked blood flow. These crises are considered medical emergencies and are commonly treated with timely opioid pain management when clinically indicated. In the video, the physician was seen talking down to her, due to her need for appropriate pain relief medication while citing vague statements like "studies show it's dangerous," despite the patient being in an emergency setting and clearly in distress. To many viewers like myself, this interaction reflected a lack of empathy, outdated or misapplied reasoning, and troubling bias, particularly toward a young Black woman advocating for herself. Regardless of intent, the encounter raised serious concerns about how pain, race, and chronic illness are handled in emergency medicine. Patients with sickle cell disease already face significant stigma and disbelief in healthcare settings, and situations like this only reinforce that fear. I hope Halifax Health takes these concerns seriously and prioritizes compassionate, evidence-based care for all patients.
