After many years of not seeing my Optometrist, I had a full eye exam done at Valley Eye Care in Gardnerville. I felt lucky coming out of the appointment (Dr. Amanda Brewer) with a healthy eye opinion and a reasonable progressive prescription. After a few months of using my new spectacles, I noticed that my eyesight was actually getting worse. So back to Dr. Brewer I went to look at my prescription. What she found instead was that my cataracts had grown, and it was time for surgery. She then referred me to Dr. Caleb Morris at Nevada Eye Consultants. Nevada Eye Consultants is quite an operation, full of patients, doctors, and support staff. I was efficiently shuttled from room-to-room including another eye exam, some follow-up, 1:1 time with Dr. Morris, and the insurance person. This experience kind of reminded me of taking my then step-daughter to the Orthodontist to see if braces were required. The visit being 1 part Doctor and an equal part being treatment and financing options. The two optometrists on this staff as well as some of the medical assistants during the check in and follow up sessions were rude, disrespectful, and dismissive of any questions or concerns that I had. The whole process seemed like an assembly line where no one cares about you as a person and patient, but rather as an object that they have to work on. I am still experiencing somewhat bothersome effects in one eye after my cataract surgeries but dealing with some of the staff there was such an unpleasant experience that I am reluctant to go back. read more

Dr. Morris did cataract surgery on both eyes. I had a bad result on one eye, and Morris was unapologetic, flippant about suggesting I learn to live with the dysphotopsia that was likely from displacement. I now need a lens exchange, much more dangerous than cataract surgery. There were dozens of people in a jam packed overbooked waiting room getting dilated. I believe I was rushed and disrespected for my angst and dissatisfaction for being canceled in error, and unhappy I will need another risky surgery I shouldn't have to. Access to health care is terrible in these rural towns, and Robertson and Koenig is another example. read more

Front office was good, competent and professional. After the lens implant was done it was as if they were done with me. No explanation of next steps with the procedure, lack of follow up from staff, phone calls were unanswered, and the laser doc had the demeanor of a car mechanic who didn't want to be bothered. I don't like calling these practices out but the lack of sincerity and simple civility seems to be the standard in the medical field. I first visited Dr. Engle over a year ago and was impressed. My optometrist sent me back to have a cataract removed. Turns out there was a lot more going on and while I should have gone back months ago the Doctor didnt try to guilt me or make me feel bad or anything negative. Nevada eye consultants, was very professional and informative. I felt at ease going into my ICL surgery. Dr.Morris is an excellent surgeon, I had no pain and was seeing 20/20 the very next day. He also has wonderful bedside care and even called over the weekend to check on how I was doing, it was refreshing to have a doctor concerned if his patients are doing well outside of clinic. Negligent and Uncaring - A Catastrophic Experience with Nevada Eye Consultants - Dr. Steven Chang. Review: I had high hopes when I chose Nevada Eye Consultants for my cataract surgery, especially after paying an extra $10,000 for the innovative Light Adjustable Lenses. According to the Mayo Clinic, these lenses are supposed to be a game-changer, allowing physicians to design, trial, and customize a patient's vision even after surgery. So you could try out 2 completely different lenses, for near, medium, or far vision, or a combo of both, before locking in the ideal lenses for perfect vision. Unfortunately, my experience was nothing short of a disaster. I was promised three consecutive lens adjustments: the first two would be adjustable, and the third would be my final, customized desired vision. However, when I went in for what was supposed to be my final adjustment, it simply didn't work. Instead of leaving with the crisp, clear vision I was promised, I found myself stuck with a blurred left eye--permanently. After realizing something was terribly wrong, I returned to Nevada Eye Consultants, hoping for a solution. Instead, I was met with indifference. They admitted they didn't know what had gone wrong but then washed their hands of the situation, telling me there was nothing they could do. In essence, they kicked me out and left me to deal with their mistake on my own. Their treatment was not only negligent but also incredibly uncaring. It's been three years since the surgery, and I am still living with the consequences--a permanently out-of-focus eye. The emotional and physical toll has been immense. read more

I cannot even to start to put into words just how happy I am that I went to NEC for my ilasik procedure. After being stuck in glasses for over 35 years, and terrified to have anyone mess with my eyeball... I decided to finally go in for a consult. I have no issues with the practice itself, nor with most of the staff. My problem was with Dr. Morris. He is uncaring, and does not listen to what the patient has to say. My lasik procedure was done exactly a year ago, and the biggest thing I regret is waiting so long to have it done. Quick breakdown of the whole process, you go in for an evaluation, they will tell you if you are a candidate or not. Now before you say "they will say it is good for everyone", they dont. I had a co worker that went to another place and they said he was a candidate, came here and they told him why he wasn't a candidate and saved him money and time. After the initial eval you do a more thorough check out. If you pass that surgery is scheduled. You will want to get a driver for that day. A couple of days before you will get some eye drops for pre op and post op. The procedure is pretty simple, you get a nice groovy "f" it all pill, about 45 minutes later you are taken back and it takes roughly 5 minutes. You leave that room, they make sure everything is ok and you go home. Take your sleeping pill and drops, make sure your goggles are on (they will give you these dont sweat it) The next morning is where the magic happens, you wake up, take off your goggles, and enjoy 20/20 vision. Drove myself for my follow up appointment, everything was good. Went home and rested, I bought a set of safety glasses to keep things away from my eyes. Over the next couple of weeks, your vision get better! It is so important to follow the doctors instructions. Dont touch your eyes, dont rush the recovery. DO NOT LISTEN TO ANYONE ELSE BUT YOUR DOCTOR AND STAFF. I was very concerned about recover as I do some contact sports, and I stayed away from them for a bit. At the end of my recovery, I can say I have never been so happy with my vision. Big shout out to all the staff, especially Cruz for getting everything set up so quick. And a massive thank you to Zhalen, she will lead you through everything you need and is an angel on the shoulders of patients coming in there. They have some financing offers, take HSA/FSA cards, so there is no reason to get set up with an appointment and go into 2024 with 20/20 vision. read more

My experience with Nevada Eye Consultants was nothing but professional, compassionate, and informative. From my initial appointment to post op check up, the staff were great. They gave me a ton of information up front which helped prepare me to make a decision and prepare for my appointment. Excellent LASIK procedure here. I held off until 6 months post-op before I wrote this review. Before, I was near-sighted with astigmatism. I am one of the lucky few who had an excellent result. It may take a little longer than some before my vision is stable but nonetheless, nothing but a positive vibe. I have 20/20 vision in each eye with a combined 20/15 vision. Did not lose any night vision. No glare, star, or halo. No sensitivity to daytime light. No dry eyes. I chose this place because of my annual eye doctor, Dr. Reed. The reason is, unlike some location who does nothing but LASIK, Nevada Eye Consultant has a team of doctors in-house that deals with anything eye related. Should something goes wrong, they have more than one capable doctors to help you out. For LASIK patients, you will use the other side of the office, so you don't have to wait in line with other none LASIK patients. Go through the side of the building that faces Neil road. They have a different lobby for you to wait in. Here's how it all went down if you are curious. Note: This review is based on a LASIK procedure. ===(Initial visit): No designated driver is required. On this first visit, you will make an appointment to come in for a quick eye exam with the nurse to see if you are a good candidate for the LASIK procedure. They will go over options for which procedure is right for you. Yes, there are more ways to correct your vision other than LASIK. The nurse will go over them with you. If you deem a good candidate for the procedure, they will ask you to make a second appointment for a more thorough exam. ===(Second visit): No designated driver is required but should if you can. After you deemed a good candidate for the procedure, this is where you will undergo an intense dilation test. Unlike any dilation you have done before, you will be extremely sensitive to light for maybe more than 24 hours. In this appointment, the doctor will meet with you to go over everything. Even though you made it past the first visit with the nurse, if the doctor sees something that might yield a bad result, he will not recommend the procedure. But if you are, you will go over a very detailed step-by-step before, during, and after the day of the surgery ahead of time. On this visit, you will make an appointment for surgery day that is within two weeks of your 2nd visit. They normally will have a surgery time late in the afternoon to evening so that when you are through with surgery, you will be taken home and rested. ===(Surgery Day): Designated driver required. On this day, it's a good idea you already took a bath, essentially wearing something you can go to bed in right after the surgery. No makeup or product on your face. One final look over on your eye along with drops to prep. You will be in a comfortable room alone watching an animated video showing the procedure. If you are scared, do not worry, the nurse will give you something to relax and take the anxiety away. Also, don't be alarmed if you are not the only one on the day of surgery. The surgery itself is done within minutes. Mine was done on a Thursday around 5-6 pm. So a good idea to take Friday off of work. Thursday off if you want, but not necessary. I didn't. ===(Post-op Day): Can drive yourself if you feel ok. I wasn't. You will come in the following day for the doctor to check everything out. After this day, the doctor will reach out to your goto eye doctor. They will be the one to keep checking your eyes until it heals completely. No extra payment require, it's all in the LASIK package that you paid. Between the two offices, they will communicate with each other and deal with it. ===(Visiting your Eye Doctor): This visit is about one week after your surgery. Again, you are not visiting Nevada Eye Consultant. You are visiting your annual eye Doctor, depending on who's your Eye doctor is in town. They will check your vision to see if it has improved as well as healing. Then your doctor will want to see you again 3 weeks later. ===(2nd Visit to your Eye Doctor): They will once again, check your vision and healing. Depending on your healing and vision. This might be the last time and everything is beyond perfect. For me, I had to see my eye doctor two more times after this until everything is absolutely stable and 100%. Once again, no extra cost to you. You already paid it when you did the LASIK. Even though it's a different office, I don't know how they deal with payment. Good thing is, you don't have to deal with it. As I mentioned above, it took me 6 months before everything was 100%. If you fall in the same category of slow healer as me, give it time. Even if something didn't go right, within the LASIK package, you are allowed to come in for a 2nd operation called "Enhancement" to correct anything for up to two years from your initial LASIK procedure. I had doubt during my 6-month recovery, but at last, I couldn't be happier that I chose Nevada Eye Consultant. read more

If you have any anxiety having someone touching your face and things in your face, don't go. They have no empathy, understanding or compassion. They will walk you out the door and tell you to see someone else. Even dentists are more savvy to people with sensory issues. They don't tell you head of time, they don't offer alternatives, or reschedule after giving sedatives - like your dentist will do because they actually CARE for their patients health. They just care that they are making bank and can turn away patients that don't fit their mold. read more

Just had my first eye cateract surgery with Dr Chang. The nurses were very attentive and made me feel welcome when i first got there since I was very very nervous. They put my mind at ease and talked me thru everything so I would understand what was going on. Didnt want to forget the laser tech, he explained exactly what was going on with that laser. Haha, I love a little dark humor. But the staff here is outstanding and really good at their jobs. The front desk staff is amazing (Zhaleh and Tiffany). They really are on top of things and make it easy and comfortable. Well, as comfortable as it gets when they cut your eye open and burn them with lasers. I know it is more complicated than this. I am a simple man. So, I try to keep it simple. Plus I love making it as graphic as possible to scare people. I'm sadistic I know haha. It's that damn dark humor. I just love it. So, I digress, the staff is outstanding. I cant say it enough about them, those guys rock. They are in the front lines and I really do feel that if your front desk staff is on point you will have a great experience. Not that Dr. Jamison J. Engles & Dr. Dan Lyons weren't good, they were great as well. But the whole package was outstanding. Nevada Eye Consultants has my vote and I really do recommend these guys to anyone. It is hard for me to trust people but I trust these guys with my eye care for sure. They have done nothing but amazing things. Parking is easy. They have specific spots for lasik patients on the west size of the building. Making it easy access for patients. Also, plenty of parking. I have never had trouble finding a spot. There are very clean restrooms as well with a good scented hand wash soap. Very nice touch. Everytime I have gone to the bathroom here it's always been clean. So, A++ for that. He did the lasik procedure on me and it was perfect. Also, I didn't feel much pain during the procedure and the day after. I was given the suggestion to take the sleeping pill after the operation on the car ride home. This gave the sleeping pills time to kick in so I had enough time to eat, put my drops in and I was out for the night. Slept 10 hours and woke up feeling pretty good, as good as you can feel after getting your eye cut open with lasers. Oh just FYI if your never smelled burning eyes, you will. As a matter of fact you'll smell your own eyes burning. It was pretty interesting to smell yourself burning but awesome at the same time. I know I'm sadistic but I thinks it's funny to make it very graphic. There was a warning at the beginning;). But I can't say enough about how great my experience was at Nevada Eye Consultants. I hope this helps you on choosing a Lasik place because I shopped around before I chose these guys. Now I'm writing this review without contacts or glasses and I had no complications. So I finally decided that I would see if I was a candidate for Lasik. I went a few years ago for a consult at Lasik of NV and because I was breast feeding I was not able to get it until after I was done. Well, I spoke with a few friends that had gotten Lasik and they recommended coming to Nevada eye consultants instead! So I figured I got a consult at the other place so why not get one here also. Wonderful experience for the consult. I had the nicest girl, I know her name, but I don't want to butcher the spelling. She told me straight up if my corneas are too thing then they will turn me away. Nice to know that they aren't out for the money since its $2,500 per eye. I have very bad near sided vision, so she had me come back after I had not worn my contacts for 2 weeks to make sure my corneas didn't thin out. Wearing contacts thicken your corneas. Well, they assessed me and they wanted to make sure I was not concentrating too hard if that makes sense. So that made my eyes worse because I was concentrating on the red light too much when they where trying to measure my prescription. So they didn't hesitate to make me do it again. She really wanted to make sure they were not over correcting my eyes when it would be time for surgery. Better to under correct than over correct because you can always go stronger but can't go backwards. Well, a week later I was so nervous and I almost backed out, but I just got enough guts to continue to get my surgery. The day of surgery. My apt was at 1:30pm they gave me a Valium right away so I would be relaxed. They had put me in a room to relax and put drops in my eyes until the Valium kicked in. It was funny by the time the doctor came in he knew I the Valium had kicked in. I guess I was really relaxed. Who know. Haha. He was very nice and instructed me to lay still and look at the red dot. It was amazing. I can't believe I can see now without glasses or contacts. Everyone said that afterwards your eyes will burn like crazy, but they instructed me to take a pain pill then the sleeping pill and go to sleep till the next day. And I did that so I didn't feel uncomfortable at all. No burning no discomfort at all. It felt like they just messed a little with my eyes and that's it. Didn't even feel like I had major trauma to my eyes. Highly highly recommend them, I read the other reviews and I just can't believe that they would treat people that way. I had great experiences with the billing and not worried when I asked questions. Too bad the other people did. I can see perfectly. iLasik was literally the best decision my husband and I ever made for ourselves! Our Optometrist Dr. Billy Mendoza said that he knows a lot of places in town, but Nevada Eye Consultants was the "ONLY place he'd recommend" for us to go to. After my experience, I can easily see why. Now of course BEFORE I asked my optometrist where he recommended we go, I happen to do what everyone else did and go to Lasik of Nevada (bc you hear it everywhere) for a consult. I've learned a couple of key things having chose Nevada Eye Consultants to entrust with my families care INSTEAD of the other big name place: 1) You get what you pay for. If it's cheaper, there's a reason. 2) having been in the healthcare industry (for me dental), I've learned that although you hear about a certain place in town via radio, you may find it's not what it's all cracked up to be. Higher volume (I felt like cattle getting shuffled around for my consult at the BIG name lasik place) = less QUALITY customer service = sub par results. For me I learned that the other place was the dental equivalent of Western/Absolute Dental. Meaning in Lamen's terms, avoid at all costs. Take a look at it this way. I've had a vision restriction on my license for a long time. I can't even read the channels on my TV, let alone the signs for the isles in the grocery store. At 28 years old, I was frustrated. I'm too young to have this big of a burden on my life; especially with two toddlers to chase around. My husband, needed his long distance eye sight for his occupation and long range competitive shooting activities. I've had nothing short of the most HIGH QUALITY, BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE with Dr. Engel, Tiffany and all the amazing staff of Nevada Eye Consultants. 3 days post-op now and the day after it was like HD vision. Like having glasses with no glasses - AFTER DAY 1! Talk about total game changer, LIFE ENHANCER! 20/15 the day after the procedure and only getting better. My husband has such good sight - he was told that he can read a line that only 1% of the population can read at his 1 week post-op appointment. WE ARE ECSTATIC WE ENTRUSTED OUR CARE HERE! I can't say enough good things about Dr. Engle and his staff, this medical group has it going on, I took my mom for a dr appointment with Dr. Engle and the front desk staff was so polite, and it didn't take long to see the Dr, he was pleasant and very polite, did a full exam and was speaking another language I wasn't familiar with "medical terms", this Dr then Fully explained everything to where we understood and left us as ease! This entire medical group has a serious operation going on with polite staff, highly professionals and motivated doctors who really wants to make a difference and it shows with their entire practice! This group of people felt like family from the first day I got my free consultation, and now I'm 20/15 already. The staff is professional and on the ball at every turn of the experience to say the least. They truly care about you, and not the professional fake type of care that is so clearly seen through. They take every step possible to make the experience ideal for you, and I can easily see why several people including my eye doctor told me about NEC. Every member of their staff is equally trained and knowledgable to the point that I could ask any question I could think of and never once were my questions met with disdain or a lack of answers.
