Never judge a book by its cover, right? Regardless, if you're in a wheelchair, you're screwed.

First, consider this review is coming from a total GRINGO, but I have lived in Phoenix all my life and I learned long ago, if you want authentic Mexican food, you're going to have the best luck hitting places like this. What I mean by "places like this" is, a.) a Mexican owned business run by la familia; c.) the server doesn't speak English very well; c.) most or all of the signage is Spanish; and d.) you're the only white person there because the area and storefront scares the gringos that grew up with too much white privilege - That's right, I said it. Those are the people that just drive by and miss out on true cultural greatness. In my experience, the more of those boxes you can check, the better the food. This place seems more focused on sweets and treats, which I had none, so I can't review around that. I was here for ramen and birria tacos. First, the ramen was fantastic. You get a side of limes, onions, cilantro, salsa and cabbage. It's a serving big enough to share and I enjoyed it very much. Of course, I used it to dip my birria tacos! The birria tacos were good, not great. However, my personal preference are birria tacos oozing with queso, cooked longer with more browning and crispiness, and with the tortillas dipped in the birria consommé before griddling. You can see by my photos these aren't like that, but they are good, traditional birria tacos and I'm not going to deduct them because of a personal preference. And though it would be an easy target, I'm not going to deduct them for location, storefront architecture, interior design or handicapped accessibility. Frankly, more people need to recognize "places like this" wouldn't likely exist if they had to follow those standards. I come here for the authentic food and to support entrepreneurs brave enough to risk starting a minority owned business. Best of luck to you Neveria Y Taqueria!

We came specifically for the birria ramen. In a few words, it was delicious! So flavorful & the meat was perfect! We also got quesatacos, also amazing! The corn tortillas taste authentic & the flavor is very good. I would recommend to everyone. They have agua frescas, & also deserts. We will definitely be returning!

This place was amazing and the owners were super friendly! They were getting close to closing and they still welcomed us in and didn't make us feel rushed at all. The food was fresh and tasted amazing! This was definitely a hidden gem!

The best birria ramen in town and this is coming from an SF Foodie. Highly recommend this place. Their ice cream is really flavorful and the variety of options they have is a delight.

They sell birria ramen, birria tacos, ice cream, and mexican desserts. Best birria ramen I've had.

This place is great! We tried the Birria Ramen and it was delicious. One order is enough for 2. The prices are fair. The staff were all wearing masks, gloves, and so friendly. They made excellent suggestions for next time!

Located on Roosevelt Row, Taco Boy's has a parking lot. It's not big, but I found a spot on a Thursday evening. Ambiance (3.5/5): Taco Boy's is a little chaotic. You order at the counter and then they call your name when your food is ready. It's not a large taco joint, and it's a popular taco joint. Which means you'll see a lot of people cycling in and out, as a lot place to-go orders too. Not the most calm experience, but not an issue for me. You'll also come out smelling like meat lol. They have an open kitchen, and it smells fantastic. The downside is that it sticks to your clothes, too. Service (4/5): Service isn't a big part of the experience, but for what it is, it's pretty smooth. They took my order quickly, I paid relatively quickly, and my food was ready in a reasonable amount of time. Drinks (5/5): I'm a sucker for agua frescas. Taco Boy's delivers. They had four flavors available. I went with the pineapple/mango. It's served in a large cup. Good stuff. Food (5/5): I wasn't terribly hungry so I got a small barbacoa quesadilla. Outside of quesadillas, they have tacos, vampiros, and burritos. Your choice of meat including usual suspects like carne asada, al pastor, chicken, etc. They grill all of their food right in front of you and it's absolutely delicious. Fresh off the grill. Flavorful. Well marinated. Quality meats and ingredients. At the complimentary salsa bar, you can stock up on various sauces, limes, cucumbers, etc. I can't wait to get back to have a heartier meal and try out more of their items. Hands-down, the best Mexican food I've had in Phoenix so far (after a year and a half).

The location is weird, like in a neighborhood. Just keep driving--you'll see it, but the first time I went there I thought I was lost and finally spotted it! They've remodeled and expanded the eating area which is great because before it was so busy and you felt crammed, but don't go expecting some high end taco shop. I felt like the fanciest person there when I went since I went on my lunch break in business casual. Honestly I don't care as long as the tacos keep coming out bomb.

I believe the only option for parking is to find street parking. I don't think they have a parking lot, unless I missed it. I tried their Costra taco, which is a beef taco with caramelized cheese, and it was amazing! I also tried the chicken taco, which was good. For a drink, I had their Strawberry-Lemonade Agua Fresca, and it was really good as well. Desserts don't count while you're on a business trip, right? So, I ended up ordering the Tres Leches de Coco, and it was absolutely amazing. It wasn't overly sweet at all and felt surprisingly light. The only thing I didn't like about this place was the restroom situation. You have to grab a key from the restaurant and walk outside to a restroom a few restaurants over. The restroom itself also had a few broken items, some light graffiti here and there, etc., which took away from the overall experience a little. Overall, I'd highly recommend the Costra taco and Tres Leches de Coco!

After taking a very short-lived walk through Roosevelt Row (it was HOT outside), I needed food and refreshment. I stopped into Taco Chelo and grabbed a seat at the bar. Lucky me, it was also happy hour. I ordered a frozen peach margarita and a variety of tacos. The star of the show for me was their fish tacos. Amazing! Even better, you could see the tortillas being freshly made. I don't know about you, but to me, the fresher the tortilla, the better the food tastes. My bartender was attentive and although the margaritas were frozen, they still snuck up on me. Taco Chelo is a very casual spot. A lot of people were enjoying watching sports at the bar. When in Phoenix again, I'd definitely return.

Greedy kids also split one of my Sope's seeing how I hyped it up... and left crumbs!!! Salsa bar is located in the corner and labeled so you don't go blazin hot unexpectedly with a salsa. For the adults, we decided to go with the Asada Fries for the group to share, the Mulitas with Carne Asada, Steet taco combo with rice & beans, horchata's and of course a Margarita (or 2) It was a bit to hot for the patio our front that evening, and they do have a another one out back. Sometimes the best meals happen because your original plan falls through. That was exactly the case…read morehere, and honestly... I'm not even a little mad about it. I ordered the veggie tacos with roasted sweet potatoes (skin on, which was absolutely the right call), pepitas, feta, and all the right toppings. Whoever prepped those sweet potatoes deserves a raise because they were cut into the perfect sized pieces. Every bite had a little sweetness, a little crunch, a little saltiness... it just worked. My dining partner ordered the barbacoa tacos, and I didn't even have to ask if they were good. The involuntary "Mmm..." after the first bite answered that question. Four tacos disappeared in record time, followed by, "I could've eaten two more." That's about as glowing of a review as you're going to get. Now let's talk about these tortillas. Handmade. Corn. Tortillas. Are you kidding me? They're the kind of tortillas that had me question every tortilla I've ever eaten. Soft, fresh, and somehow they manage to steal the spotlight even with everything else on the plate being so good. The chips and guacamole were excellent, too. The chips have to be made in-house and they disappeared at an alarming rate. The salsa that came with them had this smoky, fire-roasted, chipotle flavor that kept me reaching for another chip... and then another... and then suddenly I realized I'd eaten way more chips than I intended. The bottled table salsas deserve their own paragraph because they completely confused me... in the best way. They bring three to the table... a green, a red, and a darker red. I kept tasting them individually thinking, "Okay, these are alright." Then I started mixing them. Game over. On their own, each one was solid. Mixed together? That was the magic. I don't know if that's what they intended or if I accidentally stumbled onto the perfect combination, but from that point on, every taco got the salsa trio treatment. The only tiny hiccup was when we first walked in. We were greeted, asked if we wanted menus, and sat ourselves. We waited for a bit thinking someone would come take our order, only to realize it's actually counter service. Once we figured that out, everything was smooth sailing. Not a big deal at all... just something first-time visitors might want to know. Follow the sign "order here" I also loved the layout. You can actually watch them making the food, which somehow makes the wait even harder because everything smells incredible. Two tacos ended up being the perfect light meal for me. Could I have eaten ten? Absolutely. Those two statements can both be true. Meanwhile, my dining partner polished off four barbacoa tacos and was talking about ordering two more. We only ended up here because another place happened to be closed, and honestly, I'm glad it worked out that way. This ended up being one of those meals we keep talked about on the drive home. Oh and the bathrooms?. I walked in and immediately thought, "Whoa... this is a cool bathroom" The lighting had this pinkish-purple glow that made me feel like I'd accidentally wandered into a trendy lounge instead of a taco shop. I honestly wasn't even sure there was regular lighting in there and I didn't look... because the vibe seemed so intentional. Finally, the music. .. upbeat, dance-worthy, the kind that had me bouncing in my seat while waiting for my food. Between the atmosphere, the lighting, and the music, the whole place had me want to hang out a little longer. Zero regrets. I'll absolutely be back... and next time I'm ordering more tacos.
