The store is pretty large with lots of staff. I came in to do an online return to the store and wanted to look around for something to exchange. Unfortunately, each wall had a minimal amount of shoes so the selection was not great. For some reason, they did the return in the back of the store which took over 10 minutes and was confusing. When I walked in I was immediately greeted by the friendly staff. They were honestly the only redeemable part of the visit. I was asked if I knew what I needed or if I was just looking around, and when I told them I just wanted to check out their stock I was left in peace (exactly what I wanted). The store is super small and laid out in such a way that much of the floor space is empty. They had next to nothing in the front of house, and it was mostly the uglier shoes that stay in-stock online constantly. I have never seen people wearing any of these out in public if you catch my drift. When I asked about anything else that had in stock I was told that they could order anything from the online catalogue to the store... If I wanted to look online I would have stayed home and had it shipped to me, no? I thanked the staff and left. I would save time and either go to one of their outlets, or shop online instead of wasting the trip. read more

I used to like the New Balance store. I bought a pair of New Balance classics at this store back when it was located in the Christiana mall; the shoes were comfy and held up exceptionally well. That pair was made in the USA. I since bought another pair which was made in Vietnam and it held up okay, and then I bought a third pair of the same shoes, all 3 in different colors; this one was made in China. It doesn't fit the same as the other shoes and wasn't as comfy. I returned to this store and I was disappointed with their offerings. They really offer no similar shoes to the old classics, beyond that one exact shoe. It also frustrates me that they don't offer this shoe, the only one I wanted, in widths, as my foot is a bit narrower than the current shoes (not sure if their sizes have changed, or if my foot has changed, or what). Nearly all the shoes in this store are "running" or "walking" shoes. Too rigid and too much "support" and padding. I've had bad luck with this sort of shoe. But then they've also gotten onto the whole "barefoot running" fad, selling these funny-looking shoes which, I've tried on, and are not really that comfy, not to mention that they carry an insane $99 price tag for such a minimal shoe. I was able to achieve a similar effect by taking a really cheap pair of Saucony shoes I got at DSW and taking out the insole, and it was actually more comfy than these fancy New Balance "barefoot" shoes. I also have found that buying a pair of simple sneakers with minimal support, like Converse All Stars, or even something from Payless, can achieve a similar effect, at a fraction of the price. This company is price-gouging based on a fad: don't buy into it. It bugs me that this company seems to be straddling the two extremes, rather than offering average straight-up basic sneakers like I wore for years. I was fairly loyal to this brand for some time, but the combination of moving to China from USA-made shoes, and the focus on "running" shoes vs. "barefoot" shoes rather than just offering plain old-fashioned sneakers that lie somewhere in-between structurally, has alienated me as a customer. I also think the prices have gone sky-high, especially on some of the minimal models, made-in-China, where the high price is not justified. read more

We've bought a few pairs of running sneakers here. We got in a little late in the summer. My son, a high school soccer/miler, has pronation and needed good support. Well the kid waiting on us was clearly just trying to sell us something. He brought out two pairs the right length but were wide width, saying my son was border line. There is no way my son is border line wide. He then said we can order the correct width in but need to put a down payment on them. I declined that. We finally found a third option with good support and right sized but I think they probably aren't the best option. Moral of the story: unless you get the right staffer (maybe ask only for the owner or manager) their goal is to sell you a shoe regardless if it's the right one. I'll return to Delaware Running Company or try Elite Feet Middletown next time. read more

I don't think I've ever received better, personalized service at a shoe store before in my life! The store was well-stocked and the staff were friendly, helpful, and willing to go the extra mile or two to provide personalized attention to customers' needs. I personally worked with Eric, who provided me with an analysis of my shoe size/width, noting that each of my feet are a slightly different size, as well as the way that I walk and the type of shoes that would be beneficial (I don't remember all of the details, but this was truly the most help I've ever received when shopping for sneakers!). I was used to getting a particular size but he helped me feel confident in switching to another size/width as well as a particular shoe that would work best for the way I walk (again, super personalized!). It's clear to me that the employees at this store are highly trained, are good at what they do, and value customer service. Also, for what it's worth, I visited during the COVID-19 pandemic and all staff appeared to be abiding by mask and social distance protocol. Just had a great experience at the New Balance store on Churchmans Road. I'm an avid tennis player and fell in love with a pair of NB tennis shoes that the store doesn't carry anymore. They were ordered for me, came in in less than a week, I went to pick them up, and Liam was a star in everything from the moment of "meet and greet" to having me compare my favorite shoes to some newer ones. He was helpful, cheerful, and quick. So far my best experience yet at the store, and the shoes continue to be light, grippy, long lasting, and good looking. I'm writing because of the customer experience, though. So, let's have more service people like Liam around. read more
