Excellent. Food was good, hot and fast. This was recommended to us when we stopped for gas off the interstate for lunch. Portions were big, food was fresh. From the outside the place doesn't look like it could be very good. It's a bit rundown. But the inside was gorgeous and clean. They have booths and tables and the waiter was very attentive. But the crowding jewel here is the food. Sizable portions and the flavor was amazing. I got the Hunan beef dinner special, with a Wong Tong soup. The soup came out first it was an actual bowl of soup, not a cup. Fresh vegetables the wonton were not starchy/overcooked. So good. Then came the meal. Also amazingly tasty. Fresh vegetables, Hunan beef cooked perfectly, pork fried rice. Didn't need any soy sauce or other condiments! I was surprised to find this jewel in such a small town. I'll be back. read more

What a wonderful surprise! A delightful Chinese restaurant here in the Northeast Kingdom. We had a fine dinner the other night consisting of spicy but not-too-spicy Hot and Sour soup, a crispy and very flavorful salt and pepper chicken (a house specialty) and the shrimp with pea pods. Both dishes were splendidly prepared and served by a young waiter who was very attentive to our table needs. The restaurant obviously does a good takeout business, but we found their dining room comfortable and quiet. The restaurant's building is rather nondescript, and parking is off to the side, but for us it was a culinary highlight of our visit to this area. read more

My husband and I really enjoyed our quiet Christmas eve lunch at New Century. We were just passing through the town and needed a quick bite and we were pleasantly surprised by the food and service. The family was all at the restaurant and they made us feel very welcome. The hot tea and steamy food was just what we needed for a 20 degree day. The crispy beef and chicken was excellent, perfect amount of spice, and very large portions. We left full, warm and happy. read more

Before heading out of STJ, I made a stop New Century Chinese Restaurant for dinner takeout. There's a customer parking lot on the other side of the street. The place has full service dining room, but no defined seating area to wait for your food order unless you like sitting in a dark back area, unlike their other restaurant Asian Garden in Littleton, NH which has chairs near the front door. I ordered a Large Shrimp Lo Mein ($7.75) a la carte for takeout, since they do not offer lo mein dishes in their dinner combinations. My order was ready in about 10 minutes. The quart of shrimp lo mein had baby shrimp, carrot, bamboo, sprouts, & onions with mostly soft noodles, not too oily. The lo mein dish was basic and tasted good. read more

Service was good, food was not the greatest... We ordered General Gau's chicken with pork fried rice, pork egg rolls, and sweet n sour chicken to-go. General Gau's chicken was like any General Tsos chicken I've had anywhere else and was fine and so were the egg rolls. Although the rice and sweet n sour had a "musty" aftertaste and I ended up getting sick shortly after eating. Wouldn't be my first choice for Chinese take-out in the future, but maybe I just need to order something else on the menu. Aside from that, the food was ready for pick-up quickly and the man I spoke with was pleasant over-the-phone and in person. But due to the quality of the food I'll have to give this place a low rating... maybe if I return I'll try something different and the results will be better. read more

While visiting St Jay, I stopped into the New Century Restaurant, which was formally the White Horse Bar many moons ago. It was interesting to see it is now a fairly decent full service, Chinese restaurant. It was Sunday night and near closing time. The staff attempted to turn us away, however I insisted it was before closing and we were just taking out. The place appeared to be clean and well tended. The food came out quick and was surprisingly good. Usually my opinion is that the quality of Chinese food deteriorates as one travels north and VT usually has pretty poor Chinese fair. I would go back. Thus far , this is the best Chinese in the local area. read more

We stopped here for dinner on our way back from Canada. We wanted a sit down restaurant where we could have a drink. This came up on our search. It's a little bit off the highway but worth the extra 5min drive. The parking lot situation was a little confusing as it is across the street, but that's about as bad as the review gets. The waitress was extremely nice and attentive. We ordered the general gau chicken, beef lo mein, and a scorpion bowl. The food and drink came out fast and all were delicious. The chicken was crunchy and hot, and the lo mein was not greasy like take out places usually are. The scorpion bowl was tasty, as it was not too weak and not too strong. We were so hungry we didn't take any pictures of the food but the servings were large. In fact even after felling full we each still had half our meals left, which we took to go. Great spot in St. J. I do not eat Chinese often but when I do, I go here. The General Tso's Tofu is unbelievable. Prices are great, service is quick, atmosphere inside is quiet and calming. Loud talking patrons have disturbed my meals the last few times eating there. Maybe the owner should talk to these loud talkers and let them know they are disturbing other people trying to relax and eat. Or, maybe the loud talkers should develop some manners. read more

The best Chinese food I have ever had in my life and I'm coming from New York City. Wow! Amazing specials, the sesame chicken was to die for, the rice was cooked perfectly, the crab ragoons were exquisite. Really nice place, in my opinion! I stopped by at lunchtime on a weekday, and could choose where I wanted to sit. Their policy (as of Feb 2022) is you need to show proof of vaccination or a negative covid test for dining in, so that made me feel comfortable! They have a category on the menu I can't recall the name of, but it's on the same page as the lunch specials, which include an entree and a (small) appetizer, for $10-12, so I got beef with broccoli, with fried dumplings, and you can choose between white or fried rice. The portion made for a hearty lunch plus enough to take home for lunch tomorrow. Everything was very good; the breading on the dumplings was a bit thick to my taste, but cooked through, so it wasn't doughy. Service was speedy and polite, attentive but not too much so, and the feel of the place was pleasant. Oh, and parking is not obvious at first glance, but they have a sizeable lot across the side street from the restaurant. read more

This is the best place to get Chinese is St.J or Lyndonville. The only complaint I have ever had is that when I have order chicken and broccoli as take out I got way less than in the restaurant. I always get the wonton soup and the general gaus is very good as well. Overall the food is good and they usually are fast (10-15 min). read more

It's just good food! Quality is very good and portions are nice. Classic American Chinese. Got hot & sour soup, it was a little different but very good. General Gau's chicken was more meaty than most. Excellent dumplings, tasty spring roll and good boneless spareribs. Chinese MIL said chicken noodle soup was okay. Fried rice was decent. It's a 3 star because it's not exceptional, trying to avoid rating creepage. Being in the northern VT doesn't make it 4-5 stars. read more

wow! what a popular spot! we went on a bitterly cold friday night in december. we entered a warm and bustling main dining room but were ushered to the back of the attached enclosed porch. it was quite chilly out there but when we mentioned it to our waitress she promptly turned on the heat. the food was great! we had a lovely pot of tea, delicious potstickers, orange chicken, and vegetable egg fu young. portions were mighty and we had plenty to take home for breakfast the next day. i love the funkiness of this place, with the restroom and bar upstairs. seems like a cool locals spot. best chinese dining experience in the nek. surprisingly unexpected! enjoy! can;t wait to go back! read more

This will be a strange review as my son and I have been regular customers for years. Today, 9-24-17, we were waited on by someone that I believe is the owner's wife. My son ordered one item, asking that they not put the shrimp on it. I then specified that this is because he has a shellfish allergy. He ordered a couple more things and then some fried rice. She told him this was too much food. I explained that I am not well and he will appreciate the leftovers over the course of the week. When the "scallion pancakes" came, they looked all wrong and he asked if that was what they were. She said, "Yes." So he ate one. I tasted the filling, immediately tasted crab, called her over and she said "there isn't much crab in there anyway." When the fried rice didn't arrive, I asked for it, she said we didn't order it, again told me it was too much food, asked if I really wanted it, since we were done eating. I left telling her I don't go to restaurants to argue with the staff, but if I ever go back it will be years from now. I like the food, but I can drive a couple of miles further and do just as well. read more

Came here on a Saturday night, somewhat crowded, but very quiet, located on the outskirts of a nearly busy town. We came here just driving through St. Johnsbury trying to look for a decent restaurant, where we came across this place. A very large property. Not really knowing what is considered decent food up in Vermont, we decided to try it. We went in and the decor was quite ravishing, with wooden furniture and a creative ambiance. Plus an upstairs area with a bar. We came in around 7:00 and there were about 5 full tables, with the addition of a large party in the back. Plus, constant takeout orders. The menu is extremely cheap for the amount of food they give. Their combinations are also stellar. Service was actually quite pleasant and experienced, so much different from the service in New York City. Their wonton soup is quite large and is inundated with vegetables (which is a good thing...) The wontons were perfect. One of the best wonton soups up here. Their crispy chicken and beef combination was very delicious, quite tangy from the orange. Their dinner specials were amazing. The chicken and vegetables with a side of fried rice, plus and egg roll and 2-3 beef teriyaki skewers was a great combination. Delicious flavors, great portion sizes, wonderful deal. So was the beef and vegetables with rice and choice of appetizer. Their dumplings are plump and thick, which were actually quite delicious. The beef was cooked well and their selection of vegetables was amazing for the neighborhood. A wonderful, cheap place to get great Chinese food. read more

The food is very consistently good, never had a bad dish here! Sometimes they are out of the Fried Eggplant, which is a bummer because that is one of their most underrated menu items!
