This place used to be one of the best in town, and now it's made it to one of the worse. $4.95 combo plates, and they give a large portion too, along with a small cup/bowl of soup and "salad" (that's really just chopped up cabbage with some type of peanut sauce). Really good deal. As previous people have mentioned, it's a bit hard to find if you're trying to find it and don't know your place around or haven't been here before, but when you find it, it'll be worth it---it's like finding treasure. The food was definitely worth the price, and the quality of the food was noticeable when comparing it to China Caff (http://www.yelp.com/biz/china-caff-merced). Nothing against China Caff, as they have great deals too. Maybe it's just me, but I prefer this place over China Caff, even though China Caff is a lot easier to access as it's only ~8 minutes away from UC Merced. The restrooms are very small, which is one of the things to take note of. Typically, the cleanliness of the bathroom is a good range of how clean the staff is, because they use the same restroom oftentimes. In the bathroom on the door it even says for staff to make sure they wash their hands on their way out. When I went inside, it was very small and crunched up, the sink and toilets were 'eh', and there was barely any soap left. There being barely any soap left isn't a good sign. But regardless, the food was good, and I don't feel sick, so I'm fine with that. read more

Very disappointed..I ordered a couple different meals and the pork fried rice was soggy in both orders. I usually go to (Hong Kong and their rice is delicious however they hardly have any pork in it)so I gave NCC a shot. I always give a restaurant at least three try's. This was our first order from this restaurant and I found it disappointing. We asked for tomatoes to be added to the beef chow mein, but they didn't do it. I ordered Hunan shrimp, and it was extremely bland. Hunan should be spicy. I prefer steamed pot stickers, but I don't object to fried. I was excited to have delivery rather than pickup from our favorite, but the food is so much better that I'll probably pickup. read more

An established business in Merced with consistently good value. The food is good. I like the Pork Chow Mien, crispy noodles. Phone order was ready when I arrived and I was in and out in a minute. Dining room is dated but clean. The area around the cafe has gone downhill and there are always people milling about so lock your car and put valuables out of sight. I was real disappointed in the shrimp chow mien. It had a sweet taste and the crunchy noodles were of a different taste than I am use too. Curious to try this place since Hunan's closed down. I came at 11:30ish with my boyfriend and it was pretty busy but he waitresses was able to seat us and get our drinks right away. I ordered Mongolian Beef lunch special with soft noodles and my boyfriend ordered the sweet and sour chicken special soft noodles. My food came first which was delicious! There was a ROCK in the asparagus chicken black bean plate!! My friend almost broke a molar!! And all the waitress said was hmm..let me show my manager. Not an apology or anything. I mean, come on, a ROCK?? That's just gross and unheard of. The wait was pretty long for our food with only 4 others there. Props for bringing a soup we ordered and bringing 3 bowls to share w/out us asking and she served us. They didn't charge us for the one plate. Won't be back. This is one of the best places to get Chinese food in town. They're known for their Cantonese and Mandarin Chinese dishes and all the employees all speak either one of those languages. (Does that make it more authentic? :P) Food is really good for Chinese food in Merced. They have wide selections of food with different meats, and they have deals and specials for lunch and dinner. Prices are reasonable. The last couple times I've been there, I paid around 12$ each time and I always had to get to-go boxes. Great place to eat with a big group, too. The dinner special which is like 11-14$ per person, has food coming out constantly. Everything was really good. They also have Chinese dishes I've never heard about but they're good, too. They were also nice enough to separate checks within 5 people. read more

Pro: I like this place because their food is usually consistent in flavor and huge servings. Their waitresses are okay, but they have a good prices for lunch specials. You can get crispy noodle or soft noodle chowmein. Sometimes they are willing to customize dishes not on the menu is you have a good waitress. Wait time for food is usually pretty quick whether dine in or take out. Con: Don't ever get hot tea because it's not fresh. It's like they brewed the tea and let it sit in those hot water thermos. Most chinese places brew fresh with jasmine leaves, not this place. Their rangoons are filled with carrot fillings. Not creamcheese and imitation crab. Nasty. Restroom is in the back. A good value New China Cafe is good value well-priced specials every day atmosphere is a little bit conservative on nothing that you have to wait in line for for not usually incredibly busy but I don't expect a weight located parking not very much parking available but it's a good restaurant all in all I'd expect to spend about $10 to $6 to $12 per meal depending on your appetite a good healthy portions I like this restaurant me and my mother do it's good place read more
