WAENUNG READ THIS: i show up for my first appt. Desperately needing help. I mean bad. Had one intake appt. With someone named Christina (had no issues with her). Well my 2nd appointment i showed up on the wrong day. See i got a really bad TBI and it all happened right after my grandma, then mom died in june 2025. Then 10/2025 some drunk guy hits me head on. Anyways we made a 2nd appt. And i show up and waited and nobody showed up or called. I had to call them. Christina said her appointment ran iver (understandable). So we make a 3rd appointment. It was scheduled for days ago. It was a virtual appointment. No call back. Just nothing. So i guess im now stuck without ANY help . Then they give me some young 30yr old fancy dressed flamboyant feminine doctor and in less than 180 seconds he puts me on "Effexor" despite my lo0o0ong bad history with any and all SSRI/NIs type of medications. Well in less than 5 minutes this gay doctor. (Sorry but i was molested by my dads brother). And in that 5 minutes almost 2 of those minutes were "how bad the migraines will get", and to "expect severe neck pain". And then see ya later. What??? Really? I just get head on and need someone to talk to and effexor is my answer? I have no idea what happened. Idk if they got me mixed up. Or they just have people working there who have absolutely no idea what theyre doing. I could change that place and im the one that needs help. Unreal. How do you miss 3 appts with a patient and on the 3rd missed one you dont even send one email/text of such appointment ? What is going on at new directions. And dont put any blame on me i did nothing wrong this is exactly what happened. You cant determine if someone needs a serious meducation in under 300 seconds. There is just no way. I even checkin in, and commented i was done almost as quick as i checked in. I hope someone there can get it together. Their "Doctor" needs to tone it down a notch and not try putting someone on life changing medication in under 200 seconds. You need atleast a few hours. Idk. Im a still current patient wondering still whatever happened to my last appointment. They pulled a "no show" 2 in a row. And now i sit here. Dont choose this place. I dont expect a pleasant reply, and if its not its completely false i have 12 doctors that know this 2nd appointment never happened and i was never contacted ever again. Just weird. Dont go here. I had been a loyal patient at this psychiatric office since 2017. For years, they were accommodating and reliable, especially with scheduling. However, in February 2025, I received an unexpected phone call informing me that I could no longer be seen--without any clear explanation. I spent several days trying to get answers, but no one would give me a straightforward reason. I asked if I could be seen via telehealth--no. I asked if I could come in person--still no. After nearly eight years as a consistent, compliant patient, I was abruptly cut off, with no explanation and no transition plan. This experience deeply affected my mental health. I felt completely abandoned by a place I trusted and depended on. The lack of transparency and care in how they handled this situation was not only unprofessional--it was cruel. If you're considering this office, please think twice. Consistency and support are critical in mental healthcare, and unfortunately, I didn't receive either when it mattered most. Not only was my therapist unprofessional, constantly talking about herself and her minor child, but the billing department and collections will not stop harassing me for payments on no show and late fees when I was never late nor did I ever no show - my therapist did. I would not recommend this practice to anyone. read more

Management only cares about making money off of your mental illness...they know if you are having a hard time you will pay whatever they set as a FAIR price...tharapy is worthless if no one can afford it!!! What a waste of time!!! read more

Jennifer Curran would talk frequently about this being her side hustle and how busy she was with her other job. She took no time to listen, often reminding me to have a therapist when I would remind her that I have a therapist and she would ask me to take and retake the same "do you have depression" "do you have anxiety" like 10-question quiz without listening or asking about it. I tried once to lower my dose as I have been on an antidepressant for some time and wanted to ween off under the care of a doctor. After I went to a lower dose, she put me back on my original dose and would shut down my requests to lower again. Lastly, I never received any communication. I called to make a refill appointment and found out that I had been completely discharged with no notice let alone a closing visit to plan a transition to another doctor read more

terrible! hard to get anyone to respond - God forbid someone has a crisis. My counselor missed 3 telephone appointments even after receiving a phone reminder. I filed a complaint with my insurance company hoping they would take some sort of negative action against them but have not received a response. Mental health is overlooked and it's sad that it's hard to find someone responsive and competent let along getting an appointment with this group of non professionals! read more

I received excellent care for over 10 years! Never missed appointments or any medications I was prescribed. Always on time or even early for appointments. I would give them 5 stars but this past week they sent me a letter and in this letter it said we can no longer see you as a patient!!!!!! I'm pissed and you know what's funny last month I lost my medicad through Pennsylvania and that's when they kicked me to the curb. I have high mark bc bs and that wasn't good enough! Now I have to start from scratch!! I have to go farther for mental health treatment and I have no transportation! This place doesn't care about their patients all they care about is money! And if you don't have it then you are not going to get care.! I'm pretty upset as you can tell. I mean cmon I was an established patient! I have never had a worse experience with a doctor or healthcare facility in my life and I'm 55 years old. Dr. Janene Szpak was the psychiatrist my daughter was seen by and was negligent in providing her care and actually refused service giving us a week to find a new psychiatrist when it takes months to find one. My daughter has chronic fatigue syndrome which led to her anxiety and depression. She had seen a therapist and psychologist for 8 months regularly. She was hospitalized due to a suicide attempt. Before her attempt she tried to contact the office to get an appointment as she knew she was having trouble sleeping. They told her she couldn't be seen for another 3 weeks. Because she had no hope of sleeping or an earlier appointment this led to frustration. After she was hospitalized I sent an email to Dr. Szpak asking her to contact me to discuss Lauren's treatment. I also called the office and couldn't get in touch with anyone I left a message for someone to call me back. I did fill out paperwork giving me disclosure to speak on behalf of Lauren. No one ever called me or emailed. After Lauren was finished with the hospital New Directions decided because they only have part time psychiatrists they couldn't provide the level of service she needed so left Lauren with no way to refill her prescriptions as it takes a few months to find a new psychiatrist. So they basically stopped prescribing her medication giving us 1 week to get another psychiatrist. I would think a psychiatrist/practice would lose their license for such negligence. Follow up----After Michael the owner, saw this review he contacted my daughter and myself. Michael was unaware of this situation. He has taken full responsibility on what happened and the failure in the system. Michael has been the voice of reason I have been looking for in this entire process. He has showed compassion and is having another psychiatrist follow up with Lauren's medication until she gets another psychiatrist. In addition he has made himself personally available for medication management and to transfer records readily to our new psychiatrist. So if anyone patients have frustrations and feels they are lost in the system with no course of action please contact Michael the owner, as he is there to remedy the situation. read more

Have nothing to do with these people. You will regret it. They did not come through for me with my insurance company and medications.

If you are thinking about recieving support from New Directions, I'm telling you to look elsewhere. I have been suffering from mental illness since a young age, and have seen many psychiatrists and therapists throughout my life. After going through traumatic events and needing support more than ever, I admitted myself to a psychiatric hospital. This team of experts provided me with resources to New Directions. I got an appointment soon after being discharged, and thought everything was great at the beginning. After being on the wrong medication for a while and seeing that it was making my mental health worse, I was prescribed various medications that I tried. I eventually found one that suited me the best, I remained taking it everyday for a couple months. Later on, I experienced a suicidal ideation episode and did not feel like I was in control of my mood. After expressing these concerns to one of the doctors, I was immediately taken off the medication, even though I told them I thought it was helping me beforehand. A little while later, I began experiencing symptoms of withdrawal. My headaches and nausea were so severe, that I ended up missing class every week. I expressed this to my psychiatrist and was told that my symptoms were from me taking drugs rather than withdrawal of the medication I was taken off of cold turkey. This offended me greatly, for I had a past with substances and was not taking anything other than my prescribed medication. I eventually had to drop out of school and focus on my mental health, for it was seriously concerning at this point. After I was put onto a new medication and my withdrawal symptoms went away, I continued seeing the psychiatrist at New Directions because I did not want to be put on a waitlist to find a new one. That takes time and I did not have time. Recently, I felt myself needing care from another psychiatric hospital before things got worse. I admitted myself again and worked on setting up an IOP appointment with the team at the hospital. They were provided with recommendations by my therapist, for the psychiatrist was hard to reach at the time. Later on after being discharged, I was told by the hospital that my psychiatrist discontinued our sessions because she wanted me to receive a higher level of care. As a mental health professional, it should be obvious that getting accepted into IOP takes time. I was put onto multiple waitlists and still had nobody to prescribe my medication. After several emails and phone calls to New Directions, I was still told that they could do nothing to help me during the time between the hospital and attending IOP. Now, I am at a loss as to what to do other than try to work with my therapist (who is not associated with New Directions) to find support before I get into IOP. Again, if you are in need of psychiatric help and people to depend upon, I highly recommend finding a team that will see you as a person rather than a patient. read more

So I called to make an appointment as a new client. It took everything in me to reach out for help, but I liked that they offered telehealth appointments. So as I was doing the intake with a woman on the phone ( she was amazing btw and went above and beyond to help me), she asked about any substance abuse issues. I told her not really but I do drink sometimes, and made it a point to say not to get drunk, and she informed me that New Directions would not be able to take me as a client. I was stunned to say the least. She said they would refer me to rehab lol . I am not an addict.. I reached out for mental health services only to be denied and told they thought I needed rehab. This is disgusting to me and they should be ashamed of themselves. If they thought there could be a problem with alcohol than they should have at least cared enough to have one appointment with me to make a reasonable assessment. I keep thinking how many people tried to reach out to these uncaring people and got told the same thing. I hope and pray no one called there in crisis and we're told they were a junkie and find somewhere else to go. I thought therapy was supposed to help people not make them worse. I'm disgusted with this place and they should not have counseling in their name.. There is not one good reason they could have for discriminating against the sickest people, the ones who need help the most. Shame on all of you. I will never recommend this horrible place to anyone, and definitely don't call thinking you will be helped. read more
