Most of companies I pinged did not respond at all, and the smattering that did said they were booked through October. Thank my lucky stars, though, Joe called me back within the hour and said he'd come by between 4:30 and 5pm to take a look-WHICH HE DID! Off to a good start and it just kept getting better! I walked him through the challenge at hand: we needed to install an air conditioner in our garage, but we only had one janky window to work with that didn't fit the most narrow window unit, a standup unit didn't cool the space, and we didn't really want to lose use of the window entirely. Joe jumped right in and suggested a quick, flexible, and affordable solution: build an insulated window box so we can easily install and remove the AC seasonally and maintain the insulation that we need during the colder months. Genius! Not only was his idea a good one that checked all boxes, he presented his ideas clearly, answered all my questions thoroughly, and didn't pander to my very unimpressive knowledge of construction in general. Joe sent me an estimate via email the next morning, I approved it immediately, he showed up to do the work that very afternoon, and he was finished with the work by 5pm! MAGIC. After numerous conversations, over about 8 weeks, I couldn't get a commitment from Steve. Every time I was told they would try for something, they failed. Steve will promise to be there, get you a date, try to get to you, etc, and then just nothing. If the owner conducts business like this, I can only imagine how his crew would behave. I ended up finding a quality contractor (ZF Outdoors) that was able to bail me out, after the delays Steve caused, and still have it done by the deadline. IF YOU WANT YOUR JOB DONE ON TIME CALL SOMEONE ELSE! I'm glad I did! UDATE: Regarding Steve's comments about a deposit. To give a contractor 50% before they even start is crazy, because of situations like this with contractors disappearing and/or failing. The service was through AT&T and the offer at the time - January 2024 - was $55/Month but with a $250 Gift card. I never received the gift card and when I went back to them (it took 4 phone calls to get someone to actually assist me). they said that it was AT&T's fault. They would do nothing to help. When you talked with the AT&T rebate folks, they indicated that the order for service was not sent in with a rebate offer listed. There was not a $250 offer in January to begin with. I sent over the emails from AVA and AT&T is going to follow up on their false advertising. AT&T did offer me what was being offered (not through the rebate team but through their customer service... After asking to cancel my service) in January. I also used a service for moving through a concierge service that was a nightmare also. Best advice - Skip these so called Concierge services and contact venders yourself. You will get any offers that are legit at the time and will make sure that everything is on the up and up and follow through.
