Horrible experience! I hired Loughlin Electric to do 4 specific jobs at my house. Before they even started, they gave me a quote of over $600. After aimlessly walking around my house for 2 hours they ended up replacing one fuse and told me they couldn't do the other 3 jobs. They then charged $516 for replacing the fuse. Stay clear of these people. They sent two workers who appeared to be kids right out of trade school. Clueless and just quoted price out of a binder. They spent the rest of the time trying to sell me a replacement electric panel for $10,000. The worst experience I have ever had with a contractor! P.S. Let's start with the positive comments. First, I called them and they had an appointment within a week of my calling. It wasn't an emergency so that was fine. They came to my house and addressed my problems that same day. Everything has been fine with their work since. (Its been a few months.) The work that I needed was relatively simple. My doorbell was not working, I had 2 outside plugs not working, and I needed a new circuit in my basement for a refrigerator. While these look like separate items, they are related because all of these items were previously wired to the same circuit, so the repairs should have been simpler than the list might indicate. The electrician replaced the doorbell, doorbell transformer, and the buttons outside (2), and the doorbell now works. He reconnected the wiring for the plugs outside and added the new 20 amp circuit. This is all working fine. That catch comes with the pricing. if you had asked me, I would have guessed that this work would have cost me between $600 and 800 dollars. The "discounted" price was $1700. This seems high for a few hours of work, even with the cost of parts (I estimate these cost less than $300). Then, to get the 15% discount, you have to agree to enroll in a 9.95 per month plan that provides you with ongoing support and future discounted services. Some of these include "inspections" that seem aimed at finding additional work (eg. smoke detector replacements, etc.) In hindsight, I would estimate that the parts cost less than $400 and the labor was less than 3 hours. It would be interesting to know what this job should have cost me. I was motivated to get the work done and was happy to find an electrician that would come to the house for this sort of "small" work. In my excitement, I didn't get the usual 3 estimates, check references, etc. Now, I'm left with a feeling that I overpaid, and even continue to pay for this decision. read more

I had them out because my lights were dimming. Of course, they "couldn't find anything wrong" -- that will be 300 dollars. Ok sure, but later I go downstairs to my box and they haven't put in the screws properly... two are hanging out and I can't easily get them in... (to make sure I didn't see it immediately they closed the door on the box) so clearly they didn't put the box in properly. So what did I get for my $300? A box in worse shape then before I had them come out. read more

I can't say enough good things about working with this company. They came in, my fuse box was apparently TERRIFYING, lol, and they not only fixed it but they were so, so easy to work with. Every step of the way, even down to my frantic phone calls asking if I could still take hot showers without risking the house catching fire, they were there. I signed up for the family plan because NO ONE else is doing the electric in my house from here forward - it's Loughlin all the way. The job only took 1 hour 15 minutes and we were charged way too much! First there is a $60 charge for coming out. This is ridiculous for anyone but even more for me as I live right in town. This $60 charge is not applied to the work even if you agree to hire them. The work done was standard work and the estimate could have been given on the phone. Then the fee for the work completed was another $500 for 75 minutes of work. I asked how much of the charge was labor and how much was materials but was told by the electrician and the owner that they don't provide breakdowns. The cost of the materials was minimal. This work was completely overpriced. read more

Really disappointed by the work that was done in the Master Bath. Originally I thought it was done well and at a decent cost. Then I started having issues with the exhaust fan and ductwork. Every time I used the shower, moisture would run down the wallls of my bathroom, eventually ruining the paint job. Was told to mitigate it by "leaving the door open" (not a solution if you are showering or using the toilet). Then I was told to cut the bottom of the door down. Did it with no effect. Ended up demanding they come out and evaluate these issues again. Discovered that despite giving them all the specs, they undersized the fan greatly and then asked me to pay $3000 for an upgrade to the very system they installed. Will not pay them any more money to correct their own mistake read more

I was searching for someone to change the cable location of a couple of TVs. I got a couple of quotes that were ridiculous. I stumbled across Loughlin's web site and gave them a call. They gave me a great price and with the good references they have I hired them. The two guys who showed up knew what they were doing! Changing the location of the cable for two TVs was extremely difficult and I thought they could never do it. One on the guys insisted he could and would not give up! I love that attitude! I was shocked he got the job done and did what other companies said could not be done or done for an arm and leg. They quotes by the job and not by the hour which I liked a lot. Many companies I have used jack the price up by charging time and materials. The end result was the cable was moved for two TVs and my wife and I could not have been happier! I will use them in the future when I have a need for an electrician! read more

Way too pricey. They wanted $224 to change a small ceiling light with a single bulb. Would have taken all of 10 minutes. Had to pay $79 for the tech to give me that news in the 10 minutes he was here. On the upside he was super nice and polite. read more

Commercial or residential - they are GREAT! Do you feel that honest, professional, polite customer service is important? If you do then Loughlin Electric is the company for you. In 1987, I needed to upgrade the service in my house from 100 amp to 200 amp. I called a friend who worked for a local electrical supply company in Franklin and asked him to refer me to an electrician who was good and trustworthy. He gave me Jim Loughlin's name and Loughlin cheerily came over, quoted, and then did the job professionally and quickly. That was 27 years ago. Ever since I've called Loughlin to do ANYTHING electrical from replacing a flourescent ballast to installing four huge metal halide flood lamps on full size telephone poles around my riding ring. They don't hem and haw about a job too small or a job too big. When they came to my home to work last summer, my wife was all ready to ask them to please remove their boots when they came in but tucked into their toolbelt were a brand new pair of blue "hospital booties" which they unwrapped and then slipped over their work boots BEFORE they entered the house. Any time they went outside to get parts off the van for the job, booties off and then booties back on in the house. After they were finished, they came back in with a vacuum and cleaned up some plaster crumbs that had fallen from the fixture where they worked to repair the problem. Try to find anybody that operates with this level of respect...good luck! They are all just really good guys from the owner down. My business is in the final stage of moving to a new location in a professional office building and the new landlord had "the low bidder" contractor do the build-out and electrical work. On the final walk-through to accept the new location last Friday, I checked a few things and it was a wiring disaster. I was frankly furious and told them that I would not accept the space unless they let me use a professional electrician and not the bozo they hired. I called Loughlin and asked if they could come straighten it out and make it right. Literally the next business day two vans pull up and two electricians came in and went quietly to work for the next two days fixing a virtual nightmare of amateurish wiring and cabling. This is a where you would expect a response of "gee we're wicked busy right now and maybe we can look it at next week" answer but the office receptionist said "thanks for calling us, we'll be right over". If I want to stand in line, I'll go to the Registry. I needed quick help and got it right where I always have; Loughlin Electric. We got professional COMMERCIAL data, telephone, and electrical work done by a true professional. So I've used them for residential work, for commercial work, and they wired up my horse barn and riding arena which I guess qualifies as farm work. After 27 years of experience I think I can very proudly and comfortably give Loughlin Electric my strongest endorsement. read more

I hired them to install motion detectors on my outside lights and install one additional electrical outlet. I also asked for an estimate for heating cables for my roof to prevent ice damming. They did the motion detectors without problem. However, they could not install the outlet. I have a new home, and the wiring is very accessible. However, their guys drilled 3 holes in my ceiling, made a hole in the sheet rock, and then said they couldn't put the outlet in. When I told them I expected them to repair the damage they had done to my ceiling and wall, they acted surly and obnoxious, although they finally did repair it. Meanwhile, they took measurements for the heating cables. I spoke to the owner, Jim Mcloughin, and explained the problem I had with the work that had been done. He was courteous, and promised to get me an estimate on the heating cables within a day or 2, and promised to give me a break on the price, due to the issues I had in the job I had done. Two weeks later, I still had not received any estimate for the heating cables. I called the office and was told they couldn't get me an estimate for another 2 weeks! Why would it possibly take a month to get an estimate when they already took the measurements and looked at exactly what the job would entail? The electrician also told me that my electrical box was not grounded, which was not true. I had to show him that it was grounded. The guys they sent were totally clueless. They give you a really hard sell for their "VIP" club plan which costs extra money. Meanwhile, I paid over $1000 for motion detectors to be installed, which is a major ripoff. Avoid them. read more

You could tell they didn't send me rookies like some of the other contractors I have had. One thing that impressed me was they treated my house like it was theirs.
