Paid him more than $11K. Later we found that Flooring: ======= * Bad estimate on flooring material, In general the contractors give us the volume of Sqft to buy with 10% of extra. But while in the middle they asked me to buy 30% more * Huge gaps between base board and flooring * Uneven flooring Painting: ======= * They did not paint more than 50% of the agreed work Cleaning: ======= * After cutting the flooring material , they supposed to clean, since they did very bad job, I got to spend additional $200+ for the mess and debris removal The open house visitors, on my face questioned, "How can you say its newly painted, don't you see how bad it is? How could you pay for this kind of bad work? I got to hire another contractor who can work on memorial day long weekend (while open house is going on simultaneously) . I got to spend additional $6000 Because of his bad work, I could not sell the house, wasted many hours of time and travel. On top that more than $6000 loss.

We had an extremely nightmarish experience with the most unscrupulous contractor we've had the…read moremisfortune of working with. After a number of issues, which I'll detail, he left our project without completing it and with significant delays along the way and is now demanding *full* payment, threatening us with a mechanical lien. It all started when we had our kitchen remodeled and our general contractor messed up the cabinet painting. So we hired Andy to paint our kitchen cabinets professionally plus a kitchen door and window. He was pleasant and eager to land our business but once he got it, he was anything but. Our door had a lot of peeling paint and dings and scuffs, and grimy caulking on the window. I asked if he was going to sand down the old, peeling paint but he said he would just put a special primer that would 'dissolve' the old peeling paint. It didn't sound right to me, but I let him start on the window. He did almost no prep - no sanding, no fixing scuffs and dents and no removing the old dirty caulking. When I asked him - he really did not like being questioned and got really irked when he realized he wasn't going to get away with cutting corners. He also told me he is going to charge for touch-up paint, which seemed reasonable to me. But imagine my shock when I saw in his invoice a charge of $460 for getting touch-up paint! Doing the touch-ups was already included in his scope- this was just for purchasing touch-up paint including $300 for trips to the paint store! He also got annoyed when I requested if he could try and install sooner as we had a graduation party planned. He accused me of 'micro-managing' him and that I ask too many questions. But it gets worse. Somehow he decided that completing our job to a good standard was not worth his effort. He sends me an email saying he will install the cabinet doors but not the handles. Wait what? Our cabinets would be unusable without handles and they would have scratches from trying to open them without handles. So this is how callous and vindictive Andy is. He comes the next day and is rushing to get the doors installed, and starts admonishing me for not having already emptied the kitchen counter, that the floors were dirty and that I should have not gone into the kitchen because "I was kicking up dust." I could not believe this was happening. He then gets enraged at something, dumps our cabinet doors and drawers on our porch and storms off. The next day he sends a termination letter with an invoice for the full cost of the cabinet refinishing and voiding all warranties! Fast forward a month and another painter has to finish the job. This guy actually spent a whole day meticulously prepping the door and window, sanding and filling up dents, which shows the kind of corners Andy was cutting. He is demanding the full payment for a job he did not complete and is placing a lien. Overall a painful, awful experience that I hope no-one else has to go through.

They are thorough with the prep work. The job was done in a bit over two days. Follow up: After the paint was done and final payment made, we noticed there were some touch up work needed. They provided update every day on when the painter could come and they came on time within couple days. Whereas I do have experience with other contractors when I could not find them for couple months to finish last 5% of the job.
