Every flavor here comes from a protein powder, fruit or otherwise. Nothing he fresh at all, not even the fruit. I couldn't get one single smoothie with almond milk as an alternative at all. After following their Instagram page and seeing the most amazing photos of shakes, my sister and I decided to check this place out. How it works is that you pick a tea and a shake that are supposed to go hand in hand in absorbing the nutrients from both, giving you protein and energy. I am NOT a tea or protein shake fan. My daughter is hooked on this place and others in different cities under different names. I came in with her today. She could have walked me through the whole process of ordering but the person behind the counter was very friendly and jumped in. I dislike any kind of tea. She gave me a sample of the skittles tea and it is delicious! No tea flavor at all. For my shake I ordered the red velvet. It is SO good! They have so many flavors. My daughter tries a different kind every time she goes in and there isn't one I haven't liked when she gives me a sip. Ok so the gist is I don't know if this truly has any benefit. I enjoy it as a meal replacement. I will update again in the future. $12 is steep for two drinks. That is the only reason I took a star off. I can go to Starbucks and get two drinks for less. However assuming this is Herbalife under a different name, I know it's expensive. People that are complaining it isn't locally owned and mad it's hiding Herbalife under a different name... I could care less. If it was a little cheaper I'd probably go several times a week but it will be a little splurge for me once a week because it's good, keeps me full longer than a couple hours and the staff is fantastic. I'm someone who is a big fan of fresh fruits and fresh vegetables. I try to eat fairly healthy. I am well aware that these are all artificially flavored shakes and tease. I am also aware that this is connected to Herbalife, which is basically an MLM. None of those things put me off. The shake and the tea is pretty delicious. You're meant to use it as a meal replacement, in my opinion, and not just a midday snack. They provide you with the vitamins and nutrients and while you may not be getting them from an authentic source, if you don't have the time or patience to make your own or you're looking for something quick, they are a great alternative. The few shakes I have had from there I really enjoyed. They have filled me up and for only 250 cal, I think it's worth it. It's not something I can do all the time, but it is great in a pinch. I've read quite a few reviews about how this location, and many others, position themselves as "local". Yes, it's attached to a corporation. Like another reviewer said, nothing wrong with chains. I think some people just appreciate the transparency. But when it comes down to "chains", I think a lot of people have some preconceived notion that a one-off location means independent. Certainly there are establishments that are completely independent, run by one person or family. But that is a rarity. Even some of the coolest spots in Royal Oak, Ferndale, Berkley... They are all part of restaurant groups. Essentially chains, albeit smaller than those that own national spots. They just brand each establishment differently. So chain or not, if I like a place, I'll go there. The staff here is fantastic, very friendly and I definitely think it's worth a shot. So I have heard a lot of good things about new heights nutrition so I thought I'd check it out myself. The place itself had a clean, calm atmosphere and someone was immediately there to explain the process to me. The employees were friendly with great recommendations. Upon ordering you receive a flavored tea and a shake. The tea was a little sweet for me but it wasn't bad! The protein shake on the other hand was the best thing I've ever drank! I got the red velvet Oreo and holy cow it was yummy! I bought two teas and two shakes for my boyfriend and I and it was only 24 dollars (a lot cheaper then I thought). First, if you're thinking about coming here, please know that this isn't really a "local business" like they make themselves out to be, they just sell prepared Herbalife supplements in unbranded cups. I think they keep their affiliation with Herbalife on the down-low (probably because of its awful reputation for being a "Multi-Level Marketing" company). You have to dig to even find out the ingredients in their drinks. It's shady and you should probably avoid it unless you're super into Herbalife products and you don't have a blender in your house. So, the Herbalife stuff aside... my visit here was a weird and unpleasant experience. Initially I thought it was just a normal new local smoothie bar, so I stopped by for a snack one afternoon. I was immediately confused by the menu and the ordering process. First, the menu doesn't show any prices. Then I learned that you're supposed to get a tea AND a smoothie, and if you try to just get one or the other, you'll get pressured into getting both. You have to fill out a weird form with a bunch of your personal contact info. They don't tell you what the ingredients in the drinks are. I think it's because there's no whole fruits or yogurts or actual food being blended into these "smoothies", they're just artificially-sweetened supplement powders blended with ice (and maybe a few "mix-ins"). I'm pretty sure the "tea" isn't even real brewed tea, just a powdered product. Everyone in the shop seemed to know each other (which is fine, I like a community vibe), but at some point it was just weird that I couldn't tell who was in front of or behind the counter. Someone asked me what flavor I got and then said this really weird thing about how you "burn calories just by drinking the tea!" I got the feeling that everyone was "in on something" that I wasn't. It just immediately smelled fishy to me. I got my drinks and the barista asked me how I liked them. They were both pretty bad and fake-tasting but I didn't want to be rude, so I just said thanks and left with the two drinks in my two hands (thinking to myself, "dear god why would anyone ever want this"). I was so confused by my whole experience. I thought maybe I just didn't understand the concept. The more I thought about it, I started suspecting there was something else going on. I was raised Mormon so I tend to know an MLM when I see one. I did a little digging and sure enough, I'd just paid $15 for HERBALIFE SUPPLEMENTS. I'm so mad. Herbalife is a company that uses an MLM business model, which I personally choose not to support for many reasons. I had no idea that "New Heights Nutrition" was actually just a thinly veiled Herbalife store. I don't want to bring anyone down or be a "hater" -- if you're into Herbalife, OK, do your thing. But I really don't appreciate the fact that "New Heights Nutrition" is low-key hiding their affiliation with Herbalife. I feel like I was tricked into purchasing these supplements under the guise of "supporting a local business". I'm so disappointed. The one star is because the people working here were overall very nice and I'm sure they mean well. I hope my review doesn't hurt their feelings too much. Yeah, did some more research -- this is not a local small business, this is a pyramid scheme. Search the word "nutrition" on Instagram and tons of stores with the same exact graphics and menu pop up. They acknowledge their "sister stores" in ferndale and southfield (and sometimes st clair shores), but there's actually tons more in Michigan and other states with the same menu. Being a chain isn't a crime, but I'm offput by the secrecy vibes going on. They talk about "fostering community" and all of that, but pretend they're not attached to a huge corporation?? I also see this evident in the fact that there are 0 ingredient lists anywhere - When they make your shake, you can see just scoops of powder, nothing organic/healthy/nutritious/natural like claimed. I find it difficult to just trust that my shake is under 250 calories without seeing any semblance of ingredients? I had to stop by to see what all the rave was about and let me tell you, I was not a tiny bit disappointed. As soon as I walked in I was greeted and the ladies were full of information. They explained how things went and you get to pick a tea and then a protein shake. There were so many options I was over overwhelmed but I went with the simplest option which was the buckeye shake (chocolate and peanut butter) and a hot lemon mango tea. I drank the tea first and it was so amazing. Usually I'm not a tea person but I will be getting more tea from this place very soon. I mean you get 2 drinks for $9, that's a steal. Especially with the amount of protein powder they put in it. The protein shake was so delicious and it was the perfect breakfast meal replacement. I felt full and satisfied. I normally go to a different location that sells similar shakes/teas, but new heights nutrition is closer to my home so I decided to give it a try. As soon as I walked in I was greeted by a "hello, how are you" and after that it was silence. I didn't know if they were related to the other location so I wasn't sure what form to fill out (existing or new customer). I kept looking at the different ones and nobody asked me if I was a new customer or if I had any questions. I stood there in silence and was hoping someone would start a conversation with me. It was uncomfortable, unwelcoming, and awkward. I keep seeing good things on Instagram, but I don't think I will be back again. Very friendly staff. That being said, this is not the place to go to grab a straightforward, reasonably priced smoothie. It's a confusing and overwhelming situation from the moment you enter. Where you are made to fill out a sheet with excessive personal information while fed a bill of goods about the health benefits of the tea (the wall was plastered with before/after weight loss photos as well)--supposedly by simply drinking this tea one burns enough calories to obtain a chiseled physique. No prices were advertised anywhere. I also don't get the need for two drinks to be served mandatorily in their weird tea-paired-with-smoothie system. By the time I was cashing out I was braced for an outrageous total, as I was already in too deep to back out and paying $22 for two beverage orders seemed just whacky enough to complement the rest of the overall weird experience.
