The venue is perfect for concerts, plays etc. and every seat is a good seat. I first saw Mr. Botti in concert years ago and I thought I would literally lose it. He tore that trumpet up. I have never heard a trumpet sound THAT good, ever! HE is the very reason I fell in love with it. My instrument of love was always the saxophone, but honey all that changed after hearing this cat. He also happens to have the coldest band ever and is such a brilliant yet caring person. He provides opportunities for other phenomenal musicians to play with him from all over the world...not everyone does that...talk about unselfish, it's very admirable. Last night I finished the second of the canning (as in, how to safely put food in jars) classes…read morethat are offered at the KState Extension Office. Both of these courses are very BY-THE-BOOK-DO-IT-OUR-WAY-SO-YOU-DON"T-POISON-PEOPLE. I get that safety is very important and botulism kills, but the way these classes are taught leaves you almost afraid to get creative in the kitchen. Almost... I live life on the edge and plans are already forming in my head. ;) The first class, Water Bath Canning, started out pretty rough. A reminder email went out to all who enrolled but it did not include any information other than the date and time. Anyone who went to the website to figure out where this class would be held ended up at the wrong building. This happened to about half of the class, including me and my 2 companions. Class started late and it was after 10:30 before I got home Monday night. There was a lot of really good information, but the handouts were lacking and the presenter didn't have her powerpoint available as a handout (although we can go online and download it). Monday night we canned a salsa recipe, one of the ingredients was canned tomato paste... I REALY wish they had chosen a different recipe. While I learned a lot and now feel confident that I can handle water-bath canning, the finished product we took home with us is just awful. There were a handful of staff assisting in the kitchen with the hands-on part of both classes. Monday night everyone was disorganized and a bit cranky. If you asked a question you were likely to hear 3 or more answers to it. Things were definitely smoother on Wednesday night when the topic was Pressure Canning and most of the kitchen staff were in better, friendlier moods. The email reminder for Wednesday did a MUCH better job of communicating the important details, even reminding us to bring our pressure canner dials in for testing if we had them. We had the same presenter but it went quicker because there was less basic information to cover. We got right to work in the kitchen but again, it was a rather boring recipe. This time we made vegetable soup. Onions, potatoes, lima beans, tomatoes and carrots. The only seasonings were salt and pepper. While I'm sure the end result is very healthy, I don't expect it to taste great. Not only is everything that's taught here BY-THE-BOOK, it's BY-THE-DIET too. There were a couple of equipment failures last night which really worked out to be great teaching moments. We learned what to do if your canner runs out of water, your jars don't seal or if the darn thing nearly blows a gasket on you. It was quite exciting there for a while and no one was hurt. I learned a lot and feel confident that I can start caning on my own. The facility is beautiful with an amazing professional kitchen. All in all, I'm glad I enrolled and I feel I got my money's worth ($15/class). I would probably take another class from the KState Extension office but it would have to be a more advanced topic.

They are very by the book to the point of scaring people. Although you can not scare me. They just want everyone to be safe and today's standards are much higher than in Grandma's day which is when I learned to can and by my Grandmother. I will still use her recipes safe or not by today's standards. I haven't gotten sick yet from her pickles or peach butter. The 1st class did have some really good pointers and I actually learned a couple things I didn't know. (Not that I am a know it all). The Beginners class they offer several times a year in several locations. If you can find the right location. Poor communication on that end. The Advanced classes which is Pressure Canning is only given once a year at the Extension center. The 2nd night there wasn't as much skipping around. This was a more hands on class and we chopped some veggies, cooked them, put them in the jars, put the lids and rings on and had 3 different canners to work with. 2 weighted and 1 gauge. The gauge one went perfectly the 2 weighted had issues. I grew up with a weighted canner so I knew the obstacles that comes with those. 1 ran out of water and the explained what to do if this happens. The other exceeded 15 psi and the safety value blew off. Which can be dangerous but no one was hurt. The best part was everyone in the class ran away from the stove and Michelle, Carl and I ran to the stove to see the explosion. Like I said you can't scare us. I would say if you have water bathed before skip class 1 and go straight to 2. If you have done neither, do both classes you will learn something. The salsa we made in class was nasty it tasted like eating tomato paste straight, they need a new recipe. The soup is okay but needs spice. Oh and the classes are only $15 night.

I like this school because the staff are motivating and caring, and the class options are flexible. I didn't give five stars because the tuition is higher than most. I have had a positive experience with this college and I am enjoying pursuing my bachelor's degree in nursing presently. I will update my rating once I have completed the nursing program.

I attended KCAI between 1965 and 1966 and was planning to major in Industrial Design. Having taken…read more4 year of art classes in high school in Shreveport Louisiana I had been lucky enough to have gotten a good foundation in art early with dedicated teachers. While in Louisiana I had some newspaper articles written about my art while there. When I first arrived at the Art Institute in 1965, I move into the then new dormitory with a excellent cafeteria and dinning area that impressed me. However, dorm life was a disappointment since I had to share the room with a roommate that had no intentions of finishing the semester and I had one these guys for my first two semesters. Both boys (they never grew up) were always having friends over (who also were quitting) so they were drinking and partying in the room at all hours of the night. I was forced to go downstairs and study in the dinning area to get my work done. I was disappointed in the Art Institute, first in my Foundation Training in that from what art work I saw that my instructors had done reminded me of my first year in high school art. However, I had never liked English or History in high School but I love attending both of these classes taught by Roy Culver (English) and John Burke (History) . My second year I started my major Industrial Design thinking about being a car designer or at least product designer. Again, I was disappointed in the teaching and had a strong feeling that my teacher who was also the Dean John Lotus really had no experience teaching Industrial Design. I also noticed that there were many manufacturing companies in Kansas City at the time that were probably using Industrial Designers but we were never exposed to these companies and those companies more than likely never knew there was a Industrial Design department at the Art Institute. The final straw and the reason I dropped out of the Art Institute was a story told to our Industrial Design class mid term of my second semester. I was already wondering what I was doing at the Art Institute when one morning Dean Lotus came into the classroom with a big smile on his face and told us that he had received a phone call from one of his best students that had graduated the year before and that the student had gotten a great job. After a long story about how great the student had been while a student at the Art Institute our Dean told us that this student had gotten a job in Minnesota with a big manufacture called Church they manufactured toilet seats. I said nothing and finished the class then walked to the Resistor Office and resigned. I was drafted into the Army 90 days later and later sent to Vietnam. I did get the job as an Technical Illustrator and stationed in Saigon where I not only helped put out a magazine there (GRUNT Magazine) that turned out to be quit popular and even today issues are for sale on the internet and even some colleges have it in their archives. I was assigned to a photo unit and we sometimes made ID photos for American construction contractors and after talking to them I decided to change employment directions. When I left Vietnam I when back to LSU in Louisiana and got a degree in Engineering and 4 months after graduation I got a job with a oil company working in New Guinea, I never stopped from that point working in Thailand, Sumatra, Vietnam, Bahrain, Libya, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Nigeria. Frist I will say that my early art education taught me to think outside the box that had been an asset in my professional life enabling to solve engineering problems that were though impossible before. I went on to being a Project Manager on my last $6billion project in Nigeria before retiring in Thailand where I am writing this review at 76.
