Food was "authentic" and ale was good. There are many little stores interspersed in the town where we got some interesting period pieces. Even Orange Blossom water, which the food network site told me how to use! I could have spent a week here, but we had limited time. Someday I will get back and allowed a full week to satisfy my curiosity!

So he can have more historical fun facts to share with friends at game night gatherings. Haha. This place was very pleasant. We walk thru the Williamsburg old town and it was for sure and amazing adventure. The employee walk around with outfits from the 1800 and all the old buildings and history. It's a small town and each little building has a background and a story. They have backyard gardens that look fruitful and just stunning. Then they had a little park with bond fires. It great to a nice end while it being cold.

Each vendor at this convention was super sweet and we had a blast. The convention center is HUGE. It took us a bit to figure out which entrance we needed to go to, when we did find where to get tickets it felt like we had also entered a cafeteria lounge space. The main part of the convention was further away, which we didn't mind. I imagine this varies from convention to convention, but be prepared to do a lot of walking. The space where the vendors go was a bit in the back without windows, in true convention fashion. One of my favorite parts of the quilt one was seeing the quilts that looked like paintings. I'd recommend attending a conference or convention here.

And each concourse has one TSA Checkpoint. The signs were confusing as they only need to see the ID. But the sign says bother boarding pass and ID card. I had my handful and struggled to get both out plus taking pictures. There was no line at 9 Monday morning. TSA agents were friendly enough I didn't have any complains. It went through really quick. I thought TSA at Houston's HOU airport was number one, now Richmond Airport TSA is claiming the trophy. The worst one was San Jose SJC Airport. Go figure.

Our experience at the Dominion Inn & Suites was truly awful. It was very difficult to locate the…read moreproperty because it has no sign, and the branding on the sides of the building is blacked out with spray paint. There were very few cars in the lot, and there was no exterior lighting. Looking around, there were relics of it having been a Rodeway Inn and a Holiday Inn. The property is extremely worn and in disrepair. The reviews that I read have to have been fabricated because there is no way possible that people would not see what I saw. There is an elevator, despite the details saying there isn't one. However, it was falling apart, and we were greeted by some type of vomit or other bodily fluid in it twice. Our room should be condemned. The lock was broken off the door. However, the damage to the bathroom door informed us that it could be used to barricade the hall door and prevent it from opening, giving the illusion that it was secured. There was what appeared to be blood spatter on the lampshade and the wall behind it. There was filth on every wall surface, and a heavy layer of dust everywhere. Even though we had to register that there were 4 of us, there was only one completely flat pillow per bed, only 2 towels, and zero toilet paper provided. With much pushback from the front desk, we did obtain toilet paper, and one more pillow, but could never get a 4th pillow or additional towels. The toilet would not function, and management's response was to "jiggle the handle". It didn't help because the tank wouldn't hold water, so we had to dump water in the tank to flush manually. We left the lid off when we left the room, and it was replaced when we returned, so we know they at least came to look at the non-functioning toilet while we were out! The carpet was so wrinkled it was a trip hazard, and the carpet baseboard was falling off. There were cigarette burns completely through the bedspreads. The TV was broken, and the signal dropped in and out rapidly making it impossible to watch. We had prepaid for a 2-night stay, and when we looked around and decided that we should leave, we were greeted by a sign at the front desk letting us know that no refunds would be given after 15 minutes. The desk was unattended, so my calls to the contact number began at 14 minutes. But, it was sent to voicemail, and it took several more calls over several more minutes for them to answer, and we were stuck. With no hope of a refund, and nowhere else to go, against our better judgment, we stayed. There was a sign restricting guests to a maximum 13-day stay, so I suspect that this is used as more of a low-cost residence than of any minimal level of a pleasure stay. Please, don't make our mistake and stay here, keep looking!

Upon arrival I called and had a shuttle at the airport in about 15 minutes. Mrs. Carrie (not sure on spelling) picked me up and was an amazingly kind lady. She made me feel like I was family and you can tell it is who she is, a kind and caring person. Ben helped me get checked in, and I was setup for my stay. He provided info that I asked for about the area and was also very kind. My first night I walked across the street to "Mexico Restaurant" and food was pretty good. The next morning I made a typical hotel breakfast shown in the photo. Aside from this - the room was nice and most of my time was working away. I had breakfast and used the treadmill and finished the night in my room. Room felt clean, noise level was better than some of my stays, food was good, service was great. I believe you get the energy you put out and this was a positive week. If you're flying to the Richmond airport and need a place to stay nearby, this is a great spot (or the other Marriott in the same parking lot, that also looked nice). It's about 5 minutes from the airport and they pick you up and return you when needed to fly out. Recommend.

The room was in fantastic shape -- I couldn't believe the quality for the price, as some of these Richmond rooms were well over $200/night. As a sufferer of chronic back pain, I feel extra inclined to highlight the bed. I had the refreshing sleep I needed (especially as I faced another plethora of additional delays the next day). The next morning, I had a super smooth check-out process and a lovely shuttle transfer to the airport. The driver was absolutely fantastic -- I cannot remember her name for the life of me (I'm so sorry), but I am beyond grateful for her cheerful demeanor and sense of humor. I highly recommend this Fairfield, especially if you need a place to stay during a delay!

A friend and I stumbled onto this church on a recent trip to the Church Hill neighborhood. Although the church continues to run with a congregation, it is also home to the foundation that raises money to maintain it, run reenactments, and educate the public. Our tour guide, Betty, did an amazing job of explaining some of the history to us. We are also fortunate enough to meet the Foundation director, Who explained a bit of history as well. Well worth a visit.
