Back in June I attended the Road2VA Quilt Convention with my mom. We had an incredible time exploring all the unique stalls filled with beautiful quilts, fabrics, designs, and more. Each vendor at this convention was super sweet and we had a blast. The convention center is HUGE. It took us a bit to figure out which entrance we needed to go to, when we did find where to get tickets it felt like we had also entered a cafeteria lounge space. The main part of the convention was further away, which we didn't mind. I imagine this varies from convention to convention, but be prepared to do a lot of walking. The space where the vendors go was a bit in the back without windows, in true convention fashion. One of my favorite parts of the quilt one was seeing the quilts that looked like paintings. I'd recommend attending a conference or convention here. read more

Nice convention center for well loved events like GalaxyCon. Staff is super organized and friendly. The restrooms are clean. Signage is very clear. Lots of escalators to help those tired feet. I love the bridges that connect to the Marriott and the other convention buildings. read more

Nice venue for conferences or events with a large number of guests. Beautiful and spacious ballrooms and meeting rooms. I love the convenience of having building access directly from the reasonably-priced parking garage ($8 flat rate) into the convention center. Very friendly and helpful staff. Docked a star for food and food service which were just mid/meh/ok. For our gala, we had baked chicken, rice and French-style green beans. Lemonade and coffee were both super watered-down. read more

I was visiting the convention center for a large pottery conference with over 7k people in attendance- biggest thing for me was getting through the door. They only had one door to enter through- based on security. It would have been much better to utilize multiple entrances with more staff to help get said thousands of people through the doors. If you wanted to start at 9am for the lectures and workshops, you had to arrive about 40 minutes early just to make it through the long lines down the block to get in. I can only imagine how bad it was for people who had to park- the lines for the parking garage were obnoxious and a potential hazard for pedestrians and other drivers. The parking garage was next door to where I was staying, just a block away from the convention center. The giant display board outside advertised that the convention center was hiring, I would agree that they need to. The food court looked meh for food & overpriced (as to be expected). Halls were clean, bathrooms were adequate. read more

I've been to this location for many different shows. Such as car shows to conventions. It's a nice building. But the staff fail to maintain cleanliness of the facility. Bathrooms a terrible mess after a few hours. Trash cans full in the expo hall and rude staff. Listen folks I'm sorry that you have to work, but you applied for the position, now work the position. read more

I've had the pleasure of attending several events at GRCC. The venue is large and located in the heart of downtown Richmond. They have several parking garages which are located close by GRCC which is very convenient. If you have an event that requires catering their food is very good. The conference rooms are clean and spacious. Where GRCC falls short is the signage. The venue is so large that often times its hard to drill down and figure out exactly where your event is. All things considered GRCC is a very good place to hold an event. read more

All things considered, the GRCC is a pretty nice place. While most convention centers tend to get a bit nasty after a few years, the GRCC is clean, well-kept, and generally modern where it counts. The rooms are spartan, but that's always the case with places like this. Thankfully, despite the size, the GRCC doesn't echo like a castle. Tips: 3G/LTE coverage in most of the conference rooms is nonexistent, especially on the first floor, and the Wifi is passworded, so prepare to have to stand around windows to check e-mail. Also, nearby parking garages not connected to the GRCC can be cheaper by about $2, if you don't mind walking a block or so. read more

I enjoyed working at the Convention Center before the opened for business in construction and many years as a banquet servers under Labor/Ready and People /Ready for kinds of events a helper in the kitchen and a dishwasher. This is a great place to have an event. My work had a conference for 300 participants, and the GRCC team were easy to work with. They were always available to meet/call and made sure everything was prepared for our event. The catering (ARAMARK) food was so delicious- I guess their chef is new. The venue is large and has many different room options. They have nursing pods for mothers, as well as changing tables. As always in downtown Richmond, parking may sometimes be an issue as the GRCC garage may fill up at times. If you are looking for a place to host an event, I highly recommend the GRCC. read more

I've only been to two convention centers in my life- Philadelphia and now Richmond- but this place is just fine (nothing special) as far as they go- hence the 4 and not 5 stars. It spans about 3 city blocks- and if you pay attention, you don't have to go outside to hit walk the length of the joint. The food court wasn't really open when I was there which was sort of a drag- but when one of the kiosks was open- holy Hannah! Do they make good, giant cookies. The rooms were a comfortable temperature, the sign-age was easy to follow, the bathrooms were clean and the staff was helpful and kept the place tidy. Three different events were going on simultaneously (field hockey coaches convention, a wedding expo and a field hockey recruiting event) and there was still plenty of room in the place. There isn't a lot happening (on some blocks all four corner stores were shut down) in that area of Richmond so between the street parking and the copious amount of lots- there's no problems finding a space. read more

Not a bad convention center. The restrooms are clean and the staff seems ready for most events. Parking is a pain,and I believe their lot runs $26 a day. You can find public parking in a lot about a block away for just $18 a day. read more

I attended an event here over a long weekend and I have to say, I had nothing but negative experiences throughout. One thing that stood out right away was that they weren't allowing access to the halls from the attached parking garage(?). They built an enclosed bridge from the garage to the CC to keep you out of the elements, and during a winter storm, they closed it and had everyone walk outside and across traffic. It really doesn't make sense and frustrated many attendees. The worst experience while there, however, was the rudeness of the food service workers in the food court. One woman in particular was so rude to people who asked her questions, that they walked out without anything at all...one after another. They simply asked for items on the menu and she just snapped back that they don't have it (as if the person asking should have known it). There is nothing more frustrating than dealing with someone who simply does not want to be there, and this was the most classic example that I've ever experienced. read more

Convention centers aren't exciting places as they tend to be non-descript monoliths of concrete and glass, but they are the hub for large meetings and tradeshows. The Richmond Convention center spans a couple of city blocks in the heart of Richmond. They have medium sized lobby areas and plenty of places to duck away from the crowds and make a phone call. The cell reception was decent which can be tough in some convention centers. The convention center looks like it has had a face lift and looks clean and modern. The bathrooms are spacious and modern. A parking garage is attached to the convention center which makes getting out of the convention center easy. Park early and you get a reduced rate, too. They even have a food court in case you don't want to venture out of the confines of the convention center. The food was decent and they have prepared sandwiches, paninis, burgers and daily specials. They have signs posted that "no outside food or drink is allowed." read more

I have had to attend two events here. Everything is professional, clean and modern. The soundproofing could use a little work though... I did drop them a star since my Dad took a nasty spill here last time. I will credit them for their fast response after the event but leaving the cart they use to haul tables in the middle of a passageway was negligent. I do like that the parking is convenient and cheap, and that the hotels are either attached or really close. read more

I've been to the Greater Richmond Convention Center twice. Once for my brother basketball banquet and the Virginia Wine Expo.The Greater Richmond Convention Center is a really nice venue. The venue is clean and spacious. For my brother basketball banquet, we ate after the awards ceremony. The staff did a good job with the food service. There's a parking deck across from the convention center. Sometimes you will find street parking near the venue (arrive early). I was told that roller skates were not allowed in the building. When I asked how that works out when they have roller derby events, I was told that SOMETIMES they are okay. When I asked why they aren't okay today, they said since it was a move-in day a kid might get run over. When I pointed out that our paperwork actually SAYS that kids aren't allowed on move-in day, they said that sometimes people HAVE to bring their kids. I was sure to point out that they allow that rule to be broken. No integrity in sight. Just bias. Also, they claim to be a smoke free facility, but their employees smoke to close to the doors and all the smoke blows in. read more

I've had numerous events at the GRCC, and it's always a pleasure doing business with the staff. Whether you're having a conference, small meeting or expo, the space is really suitable for any kind of event. They return calls promptly and give you whatever you ask/pay for. The space is large, clean, well-kept and contemporary. Know that, as with most venues, you usually deal with three separate people -- one person who leases you the space, another person who is in charge of catering, and another person who is in charge of your AV. It can get complicated, and usually these people change from year to year. So just keep your contact database up-to-date. read more

An above average convention center with new facilities, clean bathrooms, and surprisingly good food that isn't terribly overpriced. I was pleasantly surprised by the GRCC. My friends and I came here for the Virginia Wine Expo last weekend. The GRCC was very accessible to our hotel at the Holiday Inn Express and has a parking garage across the street for event parking. The facilities appear to be brand new. The bathrooms were also modern and large for crowds. I'm not sure if the food is arranged by the event or if the GRCC does its own, but if it's the former than the food here is some of the betterconvention food you'll have. I had the Turkey Panini ($7.50) with a side of chips, and it was actually pretty good (the wine may have had something to do with that though). Writing reviews for convention centers is silly, but hey, maybe people will find it useful. read more

It's large and I attend a convention here every year. Parking around the area can be an issue if other venues are in the area during the week. Parking during the week was $17. Weekend was $8. They have a small cafe downstairs for breakfast and lunch or snacks. Coffee was good, but the breakfast sandwich wasn't so good. Best for a fruit/yogurt/drink run. There is very little seating around the place and the massage chairs beep loudly if you sit in them and don't pay for a massage. Workers will tell you to get out. Bathrooms are too small for a convention center but usually has a working in them all the time. The upstairs cafeteria has a good variety of food. The salad was good, the chicken sandwich just ok. Any food item in this place is expensive. I spent $9 for breakfast and $17 for lunch. They do not allow outside food/drink but the convention I attend you always see people with other food. The floor is concrete and you will feel the pain if you are standing/walking on it all day long. Years past it was always COLD, but this year I was hot the first day and comfortable the last day. I like that this place is easy to get to off the highway. i don't like the fact there aren't but 2 hotels in walking distance and the prices are crazy high when we need to go to convention. Parking has been ok for me over the years, but I know others who couldn't find parking some years. When hearing speakers the seats are comfy enough, the volume is loud enough, and it's been good experiences. So it's an okay place. Prices too high for food. Parking/hotel can be an issue for some events here. But overall my experiences here have been very good. read more

Visited this place and was greeted by a very friendly lady at the visitor center. I gave her a small stack of flyers and menus for my cafe [ Aloha cafe & catering on Clay st off of 3rd street ] and picked up a few from others in area. Was nice to see they promoted local as well as other areas. Will be going back for events for personal and business. read more

Parking is $6 for events and the center itself is very large. But the class I sat in was freezing cold and very far spaced out from other classes I was interested in. read more

Great space to host a large event. I'm an event planner and loved working for my client that had an event here. Parking can be found around or near the Marriott across the street. Good amount of hotels to choose from for your guests in the area. The only real downside is the food and beverage selections inside the center is limited, and the part of town the convention center is in isn't close to the foodie part of town (5 minute uber/lyft ride away). Overall a good place to organize an event at, better than most convention centers at least. read more
