Always phenomenal food and wonderful service! The doctor I work with ordered lunch for our whole office, individual meals for 20ish people. We picked it up and didn't notice until we got back that there were a couple of orders missing (understandably - again, it was a very large order) and when we called to let them know, Dora offered to make the missing orders AND deliver them right away! The food was packaged neatly, labeled clearly, and each order was tamper-proof sealed for safety. Everything was soooo tasty. As someone who has never been a fan of tamales I can rightfully say these are darn good because they have changed my mind!!! I was lucky enough to try a sample at a stand they had in Blaine on a Saturday and have been converted! The pork green chili tamales are so good. I live in Ferndale and have passed up this place so many times so after trying them I decided to come grab lunch at the store. Wow, the tamale plate is truly wonderful! The beans, rice, and that salad (dressing) are all so so good with the tamales that I had to come back a second time that week. I might be addicted. They offer deals of $2 off tamale plates Tuesday and Thursdays so I already know where I'll be getting lunch those days. Also they have a chili con queso (cheese dip for their chips) that is bomb! All I can say is wow. My boyfriend and I had heard of New Mexico Tamale prior to them relocating to Bellingham. We made it a point to try them during veg fest week (vegan week!) and it was a truly incredible experience. The owner went over every vegan option on the menu with us and when I told her I had never had a tamale before she brought out one of the (many!) vegan tamales for us to try and it was amazing!! The flavors are incredible and there are countless vegan options! We were treated so well while we were there and she brought out various yummy vegan items for us to try!! Both of us were blown away by the experience. New Mexico Tamale will be a restaurant we will be adding into our list of favorite restaurants. I will always remember my first tamale. read more

It doesn't get any better for north of the border Tamales. We picked up a half dozen each of the Red Chile Pork and Santa Fe Chicken tamales along with their homemade red Salsa to take home. They were gone in no time. The outer corn wrap is light and fluffy. The fillings were juicy, not too overpowering and filled with delicious mexican spices blended with the masa. This place lives up the hype. My mom and I came on our way up to Vancouver. We both got tamale plates with two different tamales and split them. We got chicken with green chili, pork with green chili, jalapeño, and cheese. Our favorite was the jalapeño but it was closely followed by the others. Everything was amazing!! I drive by this place all the time and have been meaning to go, and I'm glad I finally did! I joined a friend here for lunch and we dined in. I'm fairly new to tamales, so I'm glad that these came unpacked. I got one of the pork tamales and one chicken tamales. They were delicious! Someone mentioned this place in a FB posting. NM tamales? NM cooking? I am so there . . . except it's a freakin' two hour drive to get there. But . . . NM tamales, NM cooking . . . we got in the car this past Saturday and drove. We ordered 12 tamales, thinking we'd share with other members of our family. Haha, now for the bad news - they never got any. We were eating them non-stop. Yes. They were THAT good. Usually at restaurants, they're very masa heavy. These were a perfect proportion of masa/filling. We got the chicken/green chile and pork/red chile combination. They were gone in no time. The "good" news (except for the bad part about the 2 hour drive) is that we're going to have go back and drop some bucks. My family will love these, so I have to make sure I bring enough back this time to SHARE!! I agree, the owner is very friendly and outgoing and, just in the short time we were there, folks were coming in and grabbing take-out like crazy (not to mention there were several customers actually sitting and eating). I'll be trying out more of their menu too - so stay tuned. I'll have to do a follow-up! read more

This place is amazing! I am so happy they moved to Bellingham from Ferndale. The owner, Dora, is the sweetest person and wants to make sure you are happy with your meal. My office ordered lunch from here and it all came individually wrapped with our names on it. I'd like to start out by saying that my mom and I are extremely picky about restaurant tamales because we make them, ourselves, on a semi regular basis and often find that the ones served locally are extremely disappointing. We came here, thinking we had a shot at having some really great tamales; we were right!! We had a traditional chicken tamale and spinich tamale, both excellent! The masa was very moist and tender with excellent flavor (good masa is hard to come by, and will make or break a tamale!). On top of a wonderful meal, there is amazing service! The ladies here are so friendly and hospitable. After our meal, one of them brought us a complimentary dessert tamale (pineapple/coconut) which was very lovely and very generous. I will 100% be coming here again! read more

The tamales are good for this area. Being from the El Paso/Las Cruces area, I know good tamales. If you are not from New Mexico or Texas, you will like the food. What I did not like was the price. $25 dollars a dozen? Are you freaking kidding me? There is a tamale shop in Las Cruces that is $10 a dozen and that was pricey. Now, I understand this is Washington and things are more expensive, so I expect to pay more - $15-$16 at most but $25 is just silly. Good tamales are not hard too hard or expensive to make - Please, lower the price and you will get tons more business. read more

I love these tamales, the masa is mixed with delicious herbs and spices before being made into wonderfully savory tamales. I give them my highest recommendation. These tamales are so delicious, the dough is so tender, and they have a lot of filling. We loved the red chili pork best, but the green chili chicken was also very good, and we're planning on getting red chili pork and chicken next time. I just had tamales from their new location in Ferndale and they are amazingly delicious. I had the traditional red pork and green chicken and they were so fresh. I love the little side salad that comes with the plate. It's a nice balance to the spiciness of the salsa that comes with the tamales. It was a little over $9 for two tamales, a side of beans, a side of rice, two little containers of salsa and a side salad with some cilantro. I can't wait to try all of the different flavors from this new restaurant. If you plan on getting tamales for dinner, call early to reserve some. They sell out early frequently. read more
