From the classily decorated dark blue exterior, the interior is part "traditional pub" and part "quirky Americana". Think dark wood floors, bar and fittings but comfy "booths" rather than wooden tables. The real selling point of this bar is the roof garden (up a set of wrought iron stairs). Over summer this was a staple favorite with locals and visitors alike, with a mishmash of seating and the sun hitting it until late into the evening. All of the staff are attentive and welcoming, ready to dish out recommendations on ales and cocktails suited to your own tastes. The specialist drinks at this bar seem to be Whisky and Rum, which complements the Cajun and Creole menu on offer from the "Soul Food Project". I am a bit of a sucker for the fried chicken burger, but the salt cod dumplings and hush puppies are fab for starter plates too! As a hint, a full meal is around 3 starter plates. As well as great food and drink, The Church is becoming a hot spot for live music and events too. Between rib nights and whisky tastings, there is an event pretty regularly. The reason it's a 4* venue rather than a 5* for me is the price. Soft drinks and coffee are really reasonable at £2.25 for a pint of coke or an Americano (and it has great WiFi and powerpoints), a single and mixer is £3.50 - but the cocktails and food aren't cheap. Don't get me wrong... reasonable... but not cheap. It's a spot that will hot up during the winter months with it's warm welcome and home cooked food, so I recommend you hit it up now!

When placing our order we learned that the milkshake deal (+£2) advertised with the burgers only applies to the burger meal, requiring you to spend £9 for a sandwich and milkshake, with or without fries. Seth S. got the burger but skipped the milkshake and I decided to get some pancakes and twisty fries instead. Seth's burger and my fries were delivered to the table fairly quickly, but we were almost finished eating before my pancakes arrived. I was disappointed that the pancakes were crepes not American style pancakes in an American themed restaurant, but that's neither here nor there. The twisty fries were perfect - just like some of my favorite from a greasy spoon in NC. The crepe presentation was nice but the flavor underwhelming. Too much egg was used in the batter, and the egg flavor overshadowed the Belgian chocolate drizzle and strawberry filling. If you're in search of an authentic Vegas hangover cure, this is the place for you!

They also had a great selection of sweet treats on the menu at similarly reasonable prices. My coffee wasn't the best (it was served with UHT milk), but that's not why you would visit normally. I grabbed a coffee and a can of cola and I believe it came to around £2.20 - which is a bit of a steal really. We opted for our own high top table as stools aren't the most comfortable seating. The menu is simple and specific. I'd check it out ahead of time so you know what you're in for. I thought the servers were great. Timing of food, not as great. They were rammed but we were the first people sat for the afternoon so I'd expect less of a wait than 25 minutes for starters. We shared some wings and beef chili cheese fries. Now, I am from Buffalo, NY. The chicken wing capitol of the world. We invented and perfected chicken wings. Its hard to compete with our wings in this country. Back to the review, here the wings were left still attached which I kinda liked. Usually you find the drums and flats separated so this was actually a nice change up. I do think they needed more sauce. Ours were nice and crispy but dry. What saved the meal were the fantastic milkshakes (Oreo, peanut butter and Irish cream, the latter turning out to be the favourite) and the ridiculous peanut butter crunch sundae, the toffee apple pie leaving us disappointed. £20 per head, which is what you expect to pay for a novelty such as this, and which is why this restaurant will manage to survive despite the food failing to live up to the kitsch glamour and the enterprising theme. Restaurants like this should never be harshly judged on their food, and if they are you're missing the point. It's about the experience, the novelty and the ride. It's a nostalgia trip for people who never experienced it first time round; an exalted view through red, white and blue tinted sunglasses at a specific period of Americana that is itself viewed through misty eyes. How many Americans revere and laud the humble pub, jellied eels and Beefeaters? Cliched, over the top and in poor taste, replete with a decaying Mystery Machine and muscle car in the car park (genuinely!), I'll nevertheless come back time and time again. I love the lighting in here and there is graffiti style art on the bathroom walls and avant-garde graffiti in the beer garden / smoking area outside the back. Before coming here I had already looked at the menu knowing that I wanted a dirty burger! So that's exactly what I had - pulled pork burger with chipotle jam and fries. The burger was pretty delish and for a starter we decided to have 4 chicken wings with BBQ sauce - this were a bit disappointing if I'm honest. A word of warning.....I am a spice lover (as seen in my other reviews) and the hot sauce I had here was one of the spiciest things I have ever experienced.
