Very excited to finally try the newest Bitters n' Twisted venue... and critique the 'American' menu. It did not disappoint! Really good food: buffalo wings that remind me of New York, delicious pulled pork, and super yummy mac and cheese, to name of few. The drink selection is fun, ranging from bourbons and ryes to kool-aid and mountain dew cocktails reminiscent of frat party jungle juice... (I mean this in a good way, really!) The restaurant is pretty small and cosy, with wood paneling and a sort of rustic vibe. The high-top tables still have very comfortable seats. Friendly and attentive service. Highly recommend.

Buffalo & Rye is a solid addition to the Bitters and Twisted lineup. With American-inspired fare, of course we had to check the place out. I attempted to visit Buffalo & Rye on a Sunday morning with Seth S. for some pancakes on their brunch menu, but when we arrived a note was posted to the door stating the restaurant would be closed on Sundays for the foreseeable future. I wish someone had updated their website to reflect the hours. Would have saved a letdown trip to city center. Second time was a charm, Seth S. and I came back on a different week for Saturday lunch. We were both drawn to the Pimp Doggy (a hotdog prepared like a Reuben sandwich) because our favorite hotdog place back home makes the same hotdog and people drive from hundreds of miles away to eat it. Priced at £7.50, with no sides, I felt the hotdog was a major let down. It was quite small, lacked flavor and was skimpy on the toppings. The saving grace were the sides we ordered: parmesan + truffle oil fries and a small mc n' cheese. Both were perfectly cooked and a good value for the price. I really liked the smoked gouda used in the mac n' cheese. It packed the dish with a lovely smoky, salty balance of flavor. Because Bitters & Twisted are known for excellent cocktails, I also ordered a Grape Fizz. I loved drinking grape soda (Nehi brand if you're from the South) growing up, so this was a welcome throwback. The cocktail was delightful. I loved the mix of bright flavors and fizzy quality added by the grape soda. It was served in a cute short champagne glass and garnished with a curly lemon peel and maraschino cherry. So cute. On our Saturday visit, the restaurant was fairly quiet. Our service was excellent. The staff are all welcoming and friendly. The venue is small, but has a great layout to maximize seating without feeling crammed in. The decor is smartly put together, with cute cartoon touches throughout. I'd recommend checking it out and I still want to try their pancakes!

This is a great place for a city centre meat fix, with surprisingly good salads. Tasty, meaty, smoky American style goodness is the order of the day here, particular highlights are the hotdogs and wings and you won't go wrong with a side order of mac and cheese. The place itself is nice but pretty small and they make up for the lack of space by using long tables so you'll likely be sitting next to a stranger when it's busy. There's a full bar in the back with a range of decent cocktails, both classics and some of their own, they also have some interesting beers so keep an eye out for any specials they have in. They run a happy hour daily as well which makes select cocktails £4.50 between 2:30 - 7pm. Staff are really friendly and informal, they seem to go out of their way to make you feel at home. Prices are actually pretty cheap for what you get, £6.50 - £10 for most of the menu (although cocktails are about the price you'd expect for a city centre place) but keep an eye out for what comes with sides included and where you'll have to spend a bit more on (excellent) fries etc.

I came to an opening event and really enjoyed it but you never get the full feel of a place at these things. I came back a few months later for a week night meal. Even on a Tuesday it had a great atmosphere. It's quite cosy so they can't fit many people in- maybe 40 covers? We sat at a long shared table but had plenty of room. The music was great too. I had buffalo chicken wings which were fantastic, plus I shared a mac and cheese which is one of the nicest I've had in Birmingham. I've previously tried the hot dogs which have interesting additions such as red onion jam. I haven't really explored the cocktail menu but what I've had has been good. Great atmosphere, well priced food and great wings!

This is one of the newer venues under the bitters and twisted family, opening late last year. My partner and I went on one of the opening nights but hadn't been back since (not on purpose, just a lot of choice in Birmingham!), however we were persuaded back tonight as they were giving away burgers if you had a Birmingham Independent Card. We ordered 2x cheeseburgers 1x chilli cheese fries 1x burnt ends 2x cherry chocolate milkshakes They burger was really nice, however it was two patties. It would be nice if there was a choice, maybe one patty as the basic and a pound extra for two? It's a challenge for people with small mouths to eat a double patty without looking/making a mess. I was really impressed by the chilli fries and burnt ends. Overall a really lovely meal, tasty, good service, nice decor, good music. I recommend it!

This is an American BBQ joint located in the heart of Birmingham. They're really pushing the American theme pretty hard with Kool Aid and Mountain Dew based cocktails, but the food is where this place really shines. I got the pulled pork meal and a small Mac and cheese. While it wasn't a perfect replication of American BBQ, it was very good in its own right. The Mac and Cheese (made with smoked cheese) was excellent and was great as a side. If you are here on a date, it would be worth sharing with your partner. I don't see root beer often in the UK, so it was a treat to see it on the menu and while it's a bit pricey for a single can of soda, it was tasty and a nice reminder of home. I recommend trying this place out. I'll definitely be back.

Loved it. Great service. Cute cocktails- try the Mountain Dew Collins to embrace the US spirit. Delicious chicken burger too. I'd rate this place better than London's MeatLiquor! Felt intimate but with atmosphere, even on a Monday night.

If there's one thing England will always have more room for its authentic southern Americana diners. Aesthetically it reminds me a lot of the authentic bbq diner experiences Iv had in the states. The ceiling and walls are covered in blacked out wooden crates which give the whole place a very rustic feel. Worn wooden tables and stools finish the vibe. The food here is great! We tried the Mac and cheese and and a cheesy fries mixup. American size portioning means that a couple of dishes could be enough for two. The Mac and cheese was probably the best Iv tasted outside of the states. It comes served inside silver foil containers which again feels very authentic as its very typically seen in these sorts of diners in the states. The cheesy fries was also great, there was no skimping on ingredients and the cheese they used was mature and well flavoured. The banana caramel pancakes was also great! You get two stodgy cinnamon pancakes. Pair this with gooey caramel chocolatey sauce and banana and you have a winner! The music is always kicking in this place and the staff are warm and friendly! These two elements alone make me want to go back! Couple that with scrumptious food and you have a sure winner!

I am a fan of the Bitters n Twisted family they know how draw you in and this is no exception. 3rd visit tonight and 3rd winner. Bringing the MiniMonkey along was no bother and although no kids menu on offer, they can make mini portions upon request. The food is all about American meats and burgers, menu is short and sweet Smooth service Great food Great drinks Perfect vibe for evening chills Check out this place. You know you want to

Hale's imperial IPA, imported all the way from Seattle!
    Seth S.

I am constantly astounded at the level of thought and creativity behind the concepts of the Bitters N' Twisted empire. While some are hits (The Victoria, Jekyll & Hyde) and others near misses (Bodega), the 'chain' excels in new and creative ideas. Their latest of these concepts, Buffalo & Rye, joins their winning roster with an inspired twist on dishes from the American South mixed with New York trends. Buffalo and Rye occupies a small space next door to their sister restaurant, Bodega. In fact, in the event on a long wait, you can drop in to Bodega and order drinks at a discount. The space is relatively tiny, with covers for maybe a couple dozen guests. There are high seats for two, and longer communal tables in the middle for larger parties. The interior features a lot of warm reclaimed wood, from the floors to the bar and the pallets hanging from the ceiling. I like seeing all of the uses of wood in the restaurant without the need for the industrial metal that is seemingly all but a requirement for trendy restaurants these days. Like most BNT venues, you'll find a focus on crafted cocktails and real/craft beers. They've imported a bunch of American beers for Buffalo & Rye's drink list. This includes a canned beer from Seattle's Hale's Ales, a regional brewery that has been around since the 1980's and isn't too well known outside of the Pacific Northwest. It's an impressive feat that BNT knew of the brewery, and were able to procure their beer for Buffalo and Rye. The cocktails menu features drinks inspired by US culture, such as the kool-aid cooler and mountain dew collins. Outside of cocktails, they have taken great care in cultivating a superb whiskey/bourbon menu, including some of my favourites like Knob Creek, Woodford Reserve, and Blanton's, all at surprisingly reasonable price points. The food is a simple reflection of American inspired foods, hitting twenty-three items total. They include burgers, pit-smoked meats, salad bowls, hot dogs, brunch, and sides. There are about seven or so items that are suitable for vegetarians. For our first dining experience we dropped in at lunch time on a Saturday. At 12:30PM, the restaurant was fairly quiet and we had no issues finding a table. For drinks, I opted for the aforementioned beer, while Brittany A. tried one of their cocktails that she enjoyed immensely. We chose the 'Pimp Doggy' hot dog as our respective entrees, made vegetarian with a non-meat dog. It's served on a brioche hot dog bun, with sauerkraut, emmental cheese, and russian dressing as toppings. I was really looking forward to this since a hot dog joint back home makes a similar vegetarian hot dog that I could count on as one of my favourite lunch treats. The Pimp Doggy was light on the toppings, with the dressing barely covering one side of the bun, and the kraut a sad sprinkling underneath an oddly placed cheese slice. The brioche bun is so large that each bite you take is mostly bread. A smaller bun and more toppings would make this menu item a real winner, but for now I can't recommend it. The dog is an astounding £7.50, which does not include a side. Back home, a homemade dog like this with 2x the toppings would run $3 a pop. To rectify that, we ordered parmesan and truffle oil fries (£3), as well as a small serving of the mac n' cheese. The fries were sliced and cooked American style -- long, thin, crispy and some the best I've tasted in Birmingham. The mac n' cheese was the real standout here, with a complex smoked cheese sauce bringing forward the most flavour, accented by the toasted breadcrumbs and thyme. The small portion at £4 was enough for both of us to be satisfied. Our total bill for one beer, one cocktail, two veggie dogs, fries, and mac n' cheese came out to £33.50. It's a bit much even for city centre considering what we ordered, but within the realm of reason given that the menu items are not the easiest to find around here. Had we only ordered the veggie dogs, I would be sitting between awarding 2-3 stars for the restaurant. The great drink selections and the sides elevated the experience for me however. A neighboring couple showed up shortly before us, and dined off the brunch menu. I can easily see myself coming back again to try the scrumptious looking American style pancakes. As with most BNT restaurants, the service was excellent throughout. Give Buffalo & Rye a try if you are searching for interesting American influenced dishes and drinks.

Great burgers, goods beer (although not a lot on tap), good tunes and good vibes. Only a small place, but very, very cool.

The Buffalo & Rye (B&R) are part of the Bitters 'n Twisted family, meaning you instantly know that the venue is going to be top notch! B&R is a cool American style dinner conveniently located next to one of it's sister venue Bodega`. The whole place has the best laid-back intimate ambiance with the low-lighting, old wooden crates and pallets, quirky communal tables and yellow stalls and statement rugs. You will soon discover your favourite spot in this place and not want to sit anywhere else (it happens I promise)! I've been a few times and indulged in the following yummy dishes: - Mac n Cheese - cooked in their house-smoked cheese sauce blended with thyme and toasted breadcrumbs. You can have this as a small dish (£4) or large (£6). I'd recommend going for the large if you want to share with someone. - Chill cheese fries (£5) are the house fries topped with American mustard, chopped gherkins and jalapenos. You can also add beef chill. These are supper yummy fries, the melted cheese is delicious and the gherkins and jalapenos add a nice kick for sure. I'd be tempted to just head here for the fries any time of the day. - Shroom and Hallomi burger (£7)- served in a brioche bun with a large flat mushroom with garlic, parsley and mint marinated halloumi and homemade guacamole. This burger is a great vegetarian option and is very filling if you have the chilli cheese fries as well (how can you not have fries with the burger...it's impossible basically!) - Homemade pancakes (£5) - my favourite are the caramelised bananas with a cinnamon toffee sauce and chocolate sauce. Essentially a deliciously heavenly gooey mess...perfect with a cup of tea for sure. Again I am down for these panckaes any time of the day...although they do stop serving brunch at 5pm (probably a good thing!) The staff are super cool (Sophie is my favourite member of staff - she's just so friendly and fun). However I will say that the service in terms of bringing dishes and drinks to your table can be a tiny bit slow. I don't mind too much as the vibe is cool and the tunes they play are fun so you don't notice too much. What's cool about this place is that every time I go, it can be super busy or super quiet - either way there is a buzz about the place. Interestingly the restaurant doesn't take reservations for groups under six: but fear not there is a 20% off drinks at Bodega card that B&R offer anyone who comes in and wants to wait for a table. Be sure to ask about it if you're waiting on a table. Note to self - try the salad bowls out next time (along with the fries...who I am kidding I cannot not have fries) and also check out the dessert menu.

Looking for some American diner style breakfast/brunch spot, Seth S. and I decided to check out…read moreCelebz since another brunch place was closed. The Celebz concept is based on a kitschy stereotype of Americana with quintessential foods like burgers, waffles, fries and milkshakes. I love a good bit of kitsch but Celebz seemed to hit all the wrong notes. The blaring music, loud colors, and cold interior left me feeling like I was on Sunset Strip after a late-night bender in search of greasy garbage to cure my hangover. The vibe, encouraged by Rhianna screaming "bitch better have my money," was starkly contrasted by a grouping of families with small children. Womp womp. When placing our order we learned that the milkshake deal (+£2) advertised with the burgers only applies to the burger meal, requiring you to spend £9 for a sandwich and milkshake, with or without fries. Seth S. got the burger but skipped the milkshake and I decided to get some pancakes and twisty fries instead. Seth's burger and my fries were delivered to the table fairly quickly, but we were almost finished eating before my pancakes arrived. I was disappointed that the pancakes were crepes not American style pancakes in an American themed restaurant, but that's neither here nor there. The twisty fries were perfect - just like some of my favorite from a greasy spoon in NC. The crepe presentation was nice but the flavor underwhelming. Too much egg was used in the batter, and the egg flavor overshadowed the Belgian chocolate drizzle and strawberry filling. If you're in search of an authentic Vegas hangover cure, this is the place for you!

The menu is made up of a range of popular American classics like burgers, milkshakes, pancakes, cookie dough and ice cream. We decided to go for nachos and a cookie dough dessert to share which were both surprisingly good. The nachos had the guacamole and salsa on the side instead of being all over top which is great for a condiment lover like me! The thing that I love about this place is you can easily sit a chill for a few hours eating and drinking on a quiet weekend night off the booze (dry Jan seemed like a good idea at the time) if you are looking for a place to get something sweet with a good range of options this is a great option in the city centre.

We arrived at half 6 on a Friday, a little early for dining but the place was really quite busy. We were greeted, seated and introduced to our waitress in an incredibly timely and friendly manner. We actually had two serving staff as one was in training so her trainer took a seat with us and engaged in a bit of light banter while she went through the menu. Drinks ordered, food ordered, drinks served and then we were given an apology for the delay in our food arriving - much to our confusion. It can't have been more than 20 minutes. Not that I'm complaining the level of attention shown by the veritable army of servers was really impressive. I went for a black and blue burger with sweet potato fries coupled with a portion of macaroni cheese and Vicky opted for the steak (you get a voucher for a free main around your birthday, normally that wouldn't include steak but there's no restrictions here). The burger was good, although the bread to meat ratio was way off in my opinion, and the accompanying Cajun dip, sweet potato fries and macaroni cheese with bacon were all delicious. The steak was great and very well cooked. We were offered dessert, although there isn't technically a dessert menu - instead the waitress reeled off the desserts available and we were left to ponder them with no reference. I thought that a bit weird. In all honesty after that much food neither of us could stomach dessert so we left it at that. The food was good, the service was good it's just the price of the place that lets it down a bit. I don't mind paying for good food but the best part of £15 for a burger that didn't come close to the best I've had seems way too high. Needless to say though I will probably be back, although I'll be on the hunt for vouchers as I wouldn't want to pay full whack there. If I could I would give it 3.75 stars but as it is I've bumped it up to 4 as it's more than a 3 star venue.

Drinks orders were taken within minutes and thanks to me visiting the Coast to Coast website before our meal and signing up to their mailing list, my friend and I got a free cocktail using my free cocktail voucher too. The cocktails were of decent quality and were definitely not lacking in the alcohol content! The prices were not unusual for cocktails either - a mojito was about £6. For dinner, I ordered a club sandwich with sweet potato fries which was delicious. The portions are generous to say the least and I didn't think the £12.55 price tag attached was unreasonable. The food arrived quickly and we both ate so much that we physically couldn't manage a dessert, which also reduced the bill! Throughout our meal, the staff were attentive and were keen to help us with anything else we might need. The decor is in the typical American style with pictures and decorations all round, and the music also fits with the theme. The toilets were clean and nicely presented, though I couldn't make the soap work but that might just have been me! My friend and I stayed for another drink after dinner and were not asked to leave or move despite the fact that the restaurant was getting busy, which we were both happy with. Overall, I was pleased with my experience and I would definitely come back.

This entailed 2x burgers (1x "Dirty Roo" and 1x "Just plain dirty") Burgers with 2 portions of fries and chicken wings. As we had, had a bit of back and forthing with Dirty Cow on Twitter, they had kindly offered to substitute one portion of wings for hot wings for us to try. They graciously changed our order to one portion BBQ wings and one of the suicide hot wings and I'm so glad they did. The BBQ wings were smokey and sweet without being overly sickly like some BBQ wings and the suicide wings, oh man were they good! I love spice and for a moment thought these would get the better of me but I powered through and once I did the fruit spicy sauce came into its own - I even mopped up the remaining sauce with my fries! As part of the deal were two burgers: one your fairly standard beef burger topped with lettuce, pickles and tomato, the other with the same BBQ sauce as the wings, bacon and frazzles! You heard me... MOTHERFLIPPIN' FRAZZLES! This gave some really nice texture to the burger and this one was hands down my favourite. The beef patties were succulent and tasty, although could have been a little rarer in my opinion but that's not my call to make. I was a little disappointed in the pulled pork. Being from North Carolina (home of pulled pork BBQ in the states) and eating at a place with smoke in the name, I was expecting smoked BBQ. The pork is just roasted like what you'd expect to come on a bap and lacks the tenderness that comes with slow smoking. The BBQ sauce at the table has a nice smoke flavoring added, so I was able to drown my salad in that for an approximation of the smoky flavor I craved. The salad portion is very generous and uses fresh veg. The fried pickles need a little tempura batter mixed in with the corn meal and maybe a little more time in the fryer for a better texture.

The salad was served without any dressing which was a bit weird, since it was huge and mostly lettuce. By the way, portions here- GIGANTIC. Come with an empty stomach! Neat selection of American beers. I don't know. I wasn't incredibly impressed, but my meal was satisfying, and the BBQ sauce is tasty. I'll have to try a few more things on the menu...

Pretty much any night of the week you can find the resident Dj's playing a huge mix of funk, soul, disco and motown in the upstairs bar, while in the downstairs space local bands play alongside more well known touring acts. The drinks here are not going to win any awards for being fancy or ornate, but that really isn't the point of the place. This is the type of place where you can visit, feel welcome and enjoy some quality music with like minded people. No you can't have a cocktail made in a beautiful glass garnished with wild berries but if you are looking for that this really isn't the place for you. If you want to visit at the best times try Friday or Saturday nights as with a lot of places also check the website for gigs and special events.

I'll update in the future. Largely we went to go and try the new food from the Big Papas team. They have a nice concise menu of American style, big, hearty food (while miraculously staying non-greasy) which, for a main and two sides for £10, is one delicious bargain. Of particular note are the batter they are using, it's unbelievably delicate and crispy, and the tasty hot sauce. All in all it's cheap enough to be a no brainer, although the venue was lacking a certain cosiness but I'll put that down to the work they are carrying out. We'll certainly be going again soon, especially considering they have just launched a solid looking lunch menu!

Someone suggested Old Orleans as it's not far from work and we hadn't been there before. I'd had a bad experience at a different branch of Old Orleans but I chose not to say anything. When we arrived - all 16 of us - the place was quiet, which is what we expected for a Wednesday night, but they couldn't find our booking and said they wouldn't be able to seat us for at least half an hour. I rolled my eyes expecting the worst again, but they must have foreseen a roar - who wouldn't from 16 gaggling girls - but just as we took a breath in they apologised straight away and said they would get us all a round in whilst we waited for the table to be setup. The roar was silenced... We enjoyed our drinks at the bar and after only 20 minutes the table was ready. Great! This service continued throughout the night. They really felt they had to make it up to us. They gave us a great deal on our food and though it was just average pub grub we ended up having a great night. I can't fault their customer service following the first and ONLY error of the night. I wasn't put off at all and I will definitely be going back. Even if it's just to try a few more cocktails.

Yes, they provide a bar, which you can use as you would with a pub but they also provide restaurant services. Unlike Toby Carvery and The Harvester, Old Orleans doesn't only cater standard English delicacies and grilled meals, but they also deliver a menu that has a tweak of Frankie and Benny's in terms of their American food. I would say that their charges for their catering services is satisfactory and generously priced as I give compliments to the chef. I only ordered a standard Fish and Chips meal, which ended up being rather delicious and most possibly the best Fish and Chips I've eaten in the Birmingham area. I would definitely recommend checking out Old Orleans with friends or a partner.
