This resulted in performance related anxiety and resistance in attending school. She started 6th grade at York and this year has been amazing for her. She has flourish academically with the support of all the teachers, the small classes and the Jump Start Program. She was able to make an amazing group of friends, participated in the school play and several other afterschool programs. The classes have high academic expectations which are fully supported by the amazing staff. The students are given clear multi-step projects that build over the semester. For example, in her history class she crafted a 10-page paper with references and figures. Some of the different classes also work collaboratively. In her science class she, the project incorporated skills learned in her digital arts class. York has high expectations of the students and they strive to meet these expectations knowing that teachers and other supports are always available to help them meet the goals. The small class sizes and staff to student ratio means that kids don't fall through the cracks. Any issues are identified early and addressed. Students are also supported emotionally. There is no tolerance for bullying. There is an understanding of the challenges of the middle school years. There is a mentoring class where students discuss everything from social justice, current events and internet privacy issues. The school counselors are available to meet at lunch and afterschool and work closely with teachers to address any issues that arise in the classroom. Parent support is also fantastic. The school was very responsive to any concerns and questions that arose during the year. Everyone was so professional and responsive. Our daughter is actually missing going to school this summer. For the first time in her life, she is looking forward to going to school this fall. SEND YOUR KIDS HERE.

My son is shy, a bit physically awkward, and dealing with diagnosed social anxiety. As you might imagine, he's a prime target for school bullying, which became so intense during his sophomore year of high school, that he couldn't bring himself to return. His confidence and self-esteem were shattered, as were we. At the end of that summer, days before the start of the new school year, we found an opening at York and anxiously paid a $10K retainer fee. Within 36 hours after writing that check, we learned that the chief bully, the ringleader of the harassment, was also transferring to York. An unbelievable and untenable coincidence. My son's therapist warned us that this would be a harmful situation and strongly advised us, in writing, to find another school. When we informed the administrators at York Prep about this last-minute development, and asked for the retainer to be refunded -- I remind you that the ink was barely dry on the check -- they said, "Sorry, we won't do that. You signed a retainer agreement and must forfeit your $10K". This was now just TWO DAYS before classes started! They also implied that we'd need a lawyer if we wanted to fight for a refund. The callousness York exhibited here, with no regard for my son's emotional health, and unfairly keeping our retainer after less-than two days, may be a cautionary tale for parents considering this school. On a positive note, we did find another school in the city that has provided academic excellence within a safe and nurturing community. My son is thriving, he's happy, and he's excelling as a student.

I was a bit apprehensive at first because it was so much cheaper than the other private Pre-K schools we looked at but within the first few weeks we were impressed. The teachers were very engaged and my child, who is shy, took to the teachers right away. I loved that they would get homework and the arts and crafts they did were adorable. There were a lot of field trips and off-site events - awesome for kids. Security is very important here - buzzed in entry, visual recognition of caregiver before child can leave, etc. The class was very diverse. There were easily four or five bilingual children (Indian, Ukrainian, Spanish, Italian).

The best education in the city, free for all students accepted…read more Regis is one of the most selective and academically rigorous high schools in New York City, and probably the most prestigious all-boys Catholic high school in the entire country. because all Regis students attend free of tuition, acceptance is highly selective and based on an entrance exam, letters of recommendation, and more. For those lucky enough to attend, the school offers an excellent Jesuit led education that prepares students for college and beyond, while also instilling Catholic social teaching and the importance of living as "Men for others".

It's surprising how rarely people mention this about Regis, but some of the students--especially on…read morethe basketball team--show a real lack of respect and sportsmanship. The experience was honestly pretty disappointing. I've since heard similar stories from other teams ("yeah they're the biggest trash talkers we've seen") in the league, so it clearly isn't just a one-time thing. It's really unfortunate, because a few of us parents were actually thinking about applying and touring the school. Character should matter as much as talent, but that lesson seems to have been missed here.

I experienced several acts of racism, in front of faculty and behind closed doors, and each case practically fell on deaf ears. The administration will make it seem as though the situation has been handled but that's the farthest from the truth. The same perpetrators will still be rewarded in the end, if they are favored by faculty. The faculty also has a hand in the racism as well, whether they openly support it, reward the aggressors in the end, or commit their own acts of micro or macro aggressions. I say all this to say, save your time, and save your money. The education is also subpar at best. Even if you are not a poc student, if you don't feel like wasting your money, don't send your child here. The most they'll learn is the lyrics to sweet Caroline . The school has a beautiful waterfront campus that contains 3 different buildings. In my opinion, this is the best grammar school in the neighborhood.

I left this school after realizing the district didn't care for my mental well-being. I was in a special class for language arts two years of being there and math for 1 very nice special ed teachers.
